    Cheapest UltraWide 34 inch monitor.

It may be the cheapest Samsung, but the LG 34" UW is $499 plus delivery at Kogan. https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/lg-34-219-2560x1080-full-hd-ult…

The Samsung has QHD 3440x1440, versus LG's 2560x1080.

That's reason enough to go the Samsung for me!

      • +2

        Also Samsung curved

        • +3

dont bother with 2560x1080 for ultrawide, it is not worth the money

        • @Dealinator:

Man, monitors confuse me! I've been looking for at least a 31.5".
Do I want 4K? Or are these monitors just as good? :)

        • @cala90: Depends on what you are mostly going to use the monitor for. Gaming? Work? or something else?

        • @Dealinator:

A bit of everything. We're in the process of organising a PC build, mainly for running my partners engineering programs. Will also be a small amount of gaming and photo editing. And of course internet browsing. :)

        • +2

@cala90: If your using it for work and NEED straight lines, dont get a curved monitor, if you want just one big monitor for multitasking I recommend this one for the price. Otherwise if your on a budget get 2 cheap 1440p monitors. Before you buy a monitor just go on youtube and look a reviews for it.

          1440P monitor I recommend:

        • @Dealinator:

          Thanks mate, will do! :)

        • @cala90:
If you need to ask, you don't want more than 1080p.

          It works for movies.
          It works for games.
Its easy for your graphics card to run.
It scales well, even if windows has to do it because the app is old.

1440p is…. cool… and I can see why people like it, but the price is just too much to justify for me.

However, I tell you now, "4k" (which isn't 4k, thats a cinema standard, but its the term we use) is a nightmare to get working right if you're not IT savvy and can adjust scaling on the fly.

        • @MasterScythe:
          [@cala90]
Usually yeah, but 31.5" is a bit too big to do work on at that resolution. In that case you're going to have to fiddle with scaling anyway just at the opposite end of the spectrum, and even then you're going to notice jagged lines and text.

        • @jlc123:
Thats a hard call to make.
You're probably right, however there is a large percentage of people who want to sit further back, and thats why they want a big screen.
In that use case, 1080p is still good.

Otherwise, I agree. 1440p on an ultrawide.

That said, configuring an ultrawide correctly is something for 'it savvy' people anyway!

        • @MasterScythe:

          It works for movies.
          It works for games.

And that's about it I think! Text will look pretty blocky on a 32" 1080p screen.

I've seen 1080p 34" monitors on display at Harvey Norman. I'd suggest viewing one in person before buying.

        • @eug: Yea I say if your going for 1080p dont bother with anything bigger then 27 inches, unless your going to be further than a meter away then it does not matter between 1080 and 4k they look the same at that distance.

        • @Dealinator:

Ah why? I love my 2560x1080. Use it for everything

        • @eug:
My desk monitor used to be a 42" 1080p screen (was a TV).
          looked fine.

Sure text was a little blocky, but accurate blocky. Like high quality pixel art.
There's good blocky (pixel perfect) and bad blocky (blurred and smudging). Just turn off clear type and you're good to go.

But as I said above, my 55" TV, which is 1080p looks as crisp as 4k cinema displays from the 3m away of the couch.
Not everyone us using the monitor 40cm from their face.

        • @MasterScythe:

I was originally looking at a 1080 screen (http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-32MP58HQ-P-led-monitor) but a mate "suggested" that I should be looking at a 4K monitor since we're going with a GTX 1080 card.

I like to consider myself to be IT savvy to an extent ;) . I don't have any issues with scaling, it was more just the fact that I wasn't too sure what sort of monitor I should be looking at for our needs (which Dealinator clarified for me). I've already got a 27" iMac which is a 1440 screen, we wanted to go bigger than that and judging by what most have said here I shouldn't get a 31"+ screen in 1080p.

        • @MasterScythe:

Sure text was a little blocky, but accurate blocky. Like high quality pixel art.

If that doesn't bother you, that's fine. My dad uses a 32" 1080p TV at normal monitor distance and he's very happy with it.

I don't really like it myself as smaller text, e.g. toolbars in Adobe's CS, would be very jagged and rough.

There's good blocky (pixel perfect) and bad blocky (blurred and smudging). Just turn off clear type and you're good to go.

Larger text would be alright, but finer text and details in photos would be noticeably blocky.

        • @iLoveYourFace: How many inch is it? If its 29" its alright but not as good and worth for a 34" 1440p ultra wide monitor.

          @Dealinator:

I got that viewsonic last week. Its fantastic, better picture than the other Korean panels i have. No dead pixels and i managed to get it to overclock to a stable 75hz, which pretty much maxes out my gtx 1060

        • @Dealinator:My 29" lg ultrawide is 2560x1080. it cost 299, it's beautiful and I cannot fault it

    • Cheapest 3440x1440 UltraWide 34 inch monitor

      FTFY

      34" 1080p is garbage as a monitor

      • Yea a normal 1080p would be better, shit upgrade for a 1080p ultra wide at the price the sell them for. I edited it myself because of what the first guy said which he was right, i was to brief.

        • I agree. 2560x1080 ultrawide is only good at around 25" (i bought one, LG for around $250). Worth it over a regular 1920x1080 screen for sure. Im thinking of getting a big 1440p ultra wide and putting it in the middle, and having a 16:9 on the left for older games that don't support 21:9 (e.g Kotor, SWBF2).

        • @Ahbal: Or Bloddy Overwatch! So upsetting that Blizard is so blind to put in true 21:9 support

        • @Dealinator:

Overwatch has no 21:9 support? Well thats off my list of games to buy then…until it is implemented anyway

        • -1

@Ahbal: It has 21:9 support but you get less fov then 16:9 because they just stretch the image, because Blizzard thinks it gives you "TOO MUCH of a competitive advantage", which is total stupid.

  • I HAVE TO ADD! The later model of this deal:

Samsung C34F791WQE 34" Ultra WQHD Curved Quantum Dot 100Hz Monitor

      • damn, i followed link then searched. guess it searched everything :(

  • Any recommendations for a monitor in-regards for music production?

Ideally the 34" look sweet and I can fit loads on my screen, or am I better off buying 2 cheaper 24-32" monitors and putting them next to each other?

The ultrawides in 34, are much bigger than standard 34 right?

I use my laptop for work, but generally it'd be used for music only. I don't really have time to game, if I did id prob just buy an xbox or ps4.

Otherwise would it be too annoying to have a 34" with 2 22-24" on each side? Massive work desk, but lets me have music in the middle and browsing/work on other windows.(I do have an online business or 2 and not having to alt tab constantly is helpful)

im so out of touch with hardware and IT stuff these days!

    • +1

Hey, from the youtube reviews and my personal use, if you have long music time lines a ultrawide is awesome for more horizontal space. I currently have 3 monitors side by side 2 24" and 1 27" in the middle, it takes around 1.5m in space.

I bought this monitor in mind for video editing and work and im still going to keep the 27 but have it off to the side and sell the 24".

Up to you at the end of the day, if you have time go in to places were you can see the monitors on display like mwave or Harvey Norman and decide that way.

    • +1

Just depends on your set-up, and how you want to arrange all your windows/plugins, etc.

I would think for music production and video, a 1440 34" ultrawide with an extra monitor or two on the side would be the ideal set-up. Would allow for a large/long central window for tracking, and side monitors for playing with plugins, etc (or for monitoring your 2 online businesses!).

That's what I would use, if I was still trying to make music! (I dabbled, but never really did anything serious…)

You might want non-curved though, instead of a curved one like this.

  • The LG 32" is no good?

I was hoping they would of come down in price a lot more in recent years!
Def will have to check in-store.

I use to do music production, lived in London 12 years ago. I studied audio engineering, and now I switched shifts to weekends only and I'm finishing up some extra studies. I have time tho, so I figured I'd drop $5,000 on a few bits and pieces and get back into it as I really enjoyed it. Its very time consuming tho, much easier when your a 16 year old with not having to work!

  • any good 27 inch on sale?
