  • Can anyone who owns one comment on how good a washing machine this is? :)

I have a Bosch WAK24160AU, no idea of the difference but it's awesome.

Quiet, heaps of options, no lint and washes really well.

Had it for about 18 months and I can't fault it.

      • I have the 7kg 1000rpm one which I think is model number WAE20260AU. Had it since 2009 and it is still going strong. Never had any issues with it other than things I have done to cause a problem (too much washing powder), Can't complain, washes well and plenty of options as scab stated. My only criticism is towels coming out rough when air dried but that's common across the majority of front loaders.

I use vinegar in the fabric softener draw and that seems to make towels come out much better.

Also kills odours, it's cheap and doesn't accumulate residue like fabric softeners.

        • @Scab:
+1 for vinegar. Also great with stinky gym gear!

        • @beatsntoons: Yeah I use vinegar on my running shorts / shirt but have not used it as a fabric softener. How much do you use?

        • @Scab: So the vinegar itself doesn't leave any kind of smell? Or is it dependant on the amount?

          @D1977:

About 1/2-1 cup. Just fill the fabric softener section in your machine up. You can also chuck some in the machine itself, but I've never tried.

        • @Scab: so detergent as normal and vinegar instead of fabric softener? Cold or hot wash?

        • I think towels will come out rough when air dried on any machine, not just a front loader. Consider it your weekly exfoliation.

          @nayfon:

Yes, detergent as usual and vinegar in the fabric softener draw.

I use cold at 40 degrees.

I heard the WAK series are made in India (the WAE series were made in Poland)

So would like to know if the build quality is as good?

    • +1

India and Turkey I think for WAK.

Would be good build quality, the Indians and Turks are renowned for their laundry appliances.

  • All the reviews online seem to be very positive. Not a bad price at all!

It seems good. Just in case they run out, you can get one from ebay about the same price with 10% discount code WINTER10 + cash rewards.

You can just ring Appliances Online and they will price match.

I'd actually use them rather than anyone else, great company and their delivery staff are polite and helpful.

      • I agree. Had Appliances Online price match a Bosch front loader this morning for me.

Their staff are great on the phone.

  • a review mentions the temperature cannot be changed for programmed washes. Is that true?

    • That's true to a degree - it has many options that they like you to choose both in terms of temperature and spin speed. Both are adjustable on most settings but are limited to a specific range up or down set by Bosch. Fisher Paykel on some models allow you to create your own custom menu configurations which can be handy.

Also, for the best and most of the wash settings, grab a very lengthy novel. There is a quick wash of 15 minutes but does only a basic job of washing or getting rid of any liquid or powder detergent.

  • any difference between WAK24161AU and WAK24162AU?
I'm hoping to price match it at HN + $50 AMEX cash back

    • I was hoping for that too… they are more likely same product but ordered as different model to stop the price matching.

    • Yeah I tried too and got the 'different model' response

I have been considering this one since you get the 50 AMEX cashback and 50 eftpos card. Anyone know if its comparable with this Bosch machine?

  • Good Price ! This came 2 weeks too late… Got it at HN for $629, damn.

  • Many thanks OP. Felt weired buying a washing machine from JB- HiFi. Hope they live up to warranty support if needed.

  • I had a similar entry level Bosch front loader from about 2010 until just now. It was good, no problems. It recently broke down (electrical board) and is not worth fixing so I will replace it with this. Thanks OP, had been looking around for a good price.

  • Is this still available? When I click on the link the advertised price is $736 :S
