New avatar pic aye? Little girl from natural confectionery company commercial 2003.

  • +1

    Clearly some great prices here.
The question re the phone is going to be why this xiaomi and not something else. I don't know enough about redmi 4 but others may now.
And before people ask. THere's no band 28.

    • then no deal for me, if not b28

      • +8

Most xiaomi's don't have b28. But from what I gather there is probably not a great benefit unless you are in areas with poor reception and have telstra as your carrier.

        • +9

Exactly. So much rambling on about band 28 that you'd think the entirety of the population of OzBargain is rurally based

          @brentsbits:

The whole point of mobile phones is they can and are used in places away from where you're based.

        • +2

Yeah no….. B28 is being rolled out by Optus as well as Telstra.

        • +5

          @brentsbits:

B28 is used in lots of places by Telstra/Optus. Not just rural. Optus has 1266 towers in VIC that have band 28 and 75% of their towers Australia wide have band 28.

So not needed you say? Cool….

          source https://oztowers.com.au/Bands

        • +3

          @Level380:

I found it worse not to have band 28 with Optus where I live.

I always recommend people do a search on the oztowers website to see what bands are mostly used in their area.

          Check here:

          https://oztowers.com.au/Home/Query

It definitely beneficial to have that band, especially if you do any traveling. Even in the city it'll provide you with another band to avoid congestion, which is nice in heavily populated places. Also better indoors coverage.

        • +3

@Ronnnie: Just like mobile service, it does depend on where you live. But with the amount of B28 out there, it seems silly to ignore it and buy a phone without B28.

Some areas (yes mostly rural) are now only B28. So heading out of the city you might not get 4G, due to your choice. Its a buyer beware.

        • Well I am silly enough to own a Zuk Z2 without B28. My experience in the city and suburban areas has been fine. Really worst case scenario is that you will drop to 3G where B28 may be used to assist with infilling coverage. When I've been out with friends ive never been frustrated with coverage compared to my friends with B28 on the same network. Signed silly person who currently owns B28 and non B28 phones.

        • +1

it's also in the city areas that are boosting band 28 coverage, all the big investment is in band 28, and TPG bought band 28 for their own new mobile rollout also.

I've noticed it along the train line I use, some stations if you were in a carriage at the station had no broadband (tested with all 3 carriers), now I find Optus band 28 at some stations.

depends what you want in a $200 phone.

        • Keep tricking people into that so I can have less congestion, thanks

        • @Level380:

I'm not saying it's not useful and can't provide a benefit. I'm saying it's not essential unless you are headed out of City areas.

Never said it was useless. It's just that by the time they release a B28 version of these phones, it'll be a generation behind.

If you want a flagship phone from Xiaomi for a cheap price, B28 is the sacrifice you will usually make.

I've not yet had a phone with B28 and they've all worked a treat, and I'm a heavy user of phone and internet

cheap way to get 1080p large screen phone with a large battery…… my son got the 64 GB version as he wanted to use 2 sims, but yeah ….

  • How does this compare to the Redmi Note 3 Pro besides B28 and NFC?

I'm looking at below only because of B28…

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Official-Global-Version-Xiao…

    • +3

I don't think either have NFC.

I wonder if this has a better camera. Redmi N3P is probably not a phone you would buy if you take a lot of photos especially at night. Definitely OK for the occasional photo but not as sharp as other phones. I would look at the sample photos on reviews before you make a decision because I think thats the N3P biggest weakness and if you don't mind that its an awesome phone IMO.

    • +1

I looked at this and similar ones but can't order as none can be delivered to AU :(

      • +1

For real? Have you tried the usual places like geekbuying, gearbest and aliexpress?

        • Yes for real. Few shops on Ali have it but can't ship to AU.
The others like Geek Gear Goodbang are out of stock.

        • +1

check the colours ….. some colours cost more and sell quicker.

Also there are 2 versions …. mediatek for china which you can flash to global and snapdragon which was made for India that comes with global also.

    • +1

      I have both.

in real life's experience the 2 phones are the same in term of performance. Camera are the same too.

the Note 4 looks much better visually and feels nice to hold. So the different is just look and feel.

P.S : I have been burnt by GeekBuying twice. Never buying from them again. You can find similar deals on eBay and Aliexpress.
I bought the Note 4 64GB global version for $240 2 weeks ago.

  • What's the difference between Redmi Note 4X and this?

    • +4

      With the Note 4x…

      http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/review/android-smartphones/xiaomi…

Bluetooth has been updated from 4.1 to 4.2, but 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity has been removed; the Samsung S5K3L8 sensor has been switched for a same-spec Sony IMX258; the IR port has moved over to the side on the top edge; and the screws that previously sat either side of the Micro-USB port are now gone. You also get MIUI 8.1, though of course you can easily update the OS on the earlier Redmi Note 4.

One of the more obvious changes is that to the available RAM and storage options. Whereas previously you could buy the Note 4 with 2- or 3GB of RAM and 16- or 64GB of storage, the Note 4X comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, or 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Err…there's so many purchase options…what is what!? Ugh.

Partnership with Auspost. Basically it arrives much quicker to your door than the traditional free shipping which can take up to 30 business days.

Any deals on the Xiaomi Mi Note 2? Especially the global rom one

  • -1

I purchased a redmi note 4 from geekbuying a little while ago. Regarding the specs, I would place it in between the Galaxy s6 and the s7 which isn't bad for a phone that is under $200USD.
I would immediately replace the ROM though with the Chinese one as the version which is on there apparently has spyware on it (unconfirmed) and is un-upgradeable. Also, I installed Nova launcher because the stock UI is terrible.

    • +2
      1. the Chinese ROM version is subjected to Ads and auto App install with most vendors but not all. Chinese ROM version is cheaper.
      2. the Global ROM version most of the time is clean. I would trust the global version.
      3. I love the stock Mi-UI.
      • I've never had any popups or auto installed with the official Chinese ROM? All I get from it is better battery life. Mi-UI isn't the worst, but I prefer an app drawer.

        • +2

the extra apps are like chinas equivalent of facebook and WhatsApp, etc eg they use WeChat.

So what we call bloatware, chinese people use as a popular app.

I have had the Redmi Note 3 Pro with Snapdragon for the last couple of years and one of the best value for money phones available compared to what is sold in AU. I believe the Redmi Note 3 was the 2nd highest selling phone globally in 2015.
I did order a Redmi Note 4 4GB/64GB for $200 US from Geekbuying on 6th May and paid for Express processing (changes from 2-7 days processing to 2 days processing) and the phones were apparently available in HK warehouse. 10 days later my order was still "processing" and I contacted Geekbuying to find out why the delay given the extra payment to make it express. Two days later they responded with "the phone is currently unavailable and waiting on new stock" even though the website still shows available in HK warehouse however now US$35 cheaper. I contacted them again and mentioned that I am better off cancelling my order as it is much cheaper and my express processing never happened and the item is still on backorder. The following day I have an email stating that my item has been shipped and I will receive an email shortly with details. two days later I was given a tracking number with AusPost, however AusPost have no details of the tracking number. Fast forward to the 24th May and Auspost then update their tracking info with "Shipping Information Received by Australia Post" which means that Geekbuying have provided details to AusPost but Auspost said that it may not have even been sent as yet from HK…. they have just been provided details so when the item does arrive in Australia they will be able to track it.
So question to Clear; Is this standard practice to say items are in stock even if they are on backorder? Why can I pay for express processing if the item is on back order? It has been 25 days and I still dont know whether the item has been really been shipped or not as I cannot track the item until it has arrived in Australia, so when you mean item has tracking it is really only for the last 2-4 days of weeks worth of "item shipped", or does it mean that the item isnt actually shipped but the AusPost have the pre-shipping details? Coming up to a month later and no changes on AusPost site and the phone is AU$50 cheaper and still showing available in HK.

    • +1

That definitely should no longer be happening. Can you please PM me your order number? I'll speak to them about it.
