FWIW bought 2 of these last time and they're exceptional! Absolutely invaluable and worth 4 times the price. Craploads of functions on them.

    • +9

I agree that this price is really good, and I know your comment about paying 4x the price was hyperbole, but for a little under 3 times the price (with a coupon) you can grab a Skillhunt H03. Granted you need 18650 batteries and a charger, but you also get 4 times the output, neutral white, a true sub-lumen mode, magnetic tail, and the ability to use it as a handheld light.

      • Here is the true Bargainer!LOL

        • Ha, thanks. Not sure if owning 20+ lights qualifies me as a bargainer but I suppose I didn't pay full price for any of them…

      • That model is fine for those not annoyed by an off-centre LED.

  • Nice. Ordered a couple. Couldn't do click and collect, had to be delivered. Pity seeing as C&C is easier, just across the street from work. Home delivery is likely to mean a missed delivery card and me having to collect it myself from the next town.

  • hey i got free shipping for some reason shipped to my address (better for me). didn't give an option to click n collect

This item is available via delivery only.

  • Can i use it when fishing

    • +5

I have a head, can I use these?

  • Would this be ok to use for cycling at night? or is it illegal?

    • +2

Not illegal to use for cycling, but you'd still need a proper bike light fixed to the bike to be legal.

  • bought 2 on the recommendation here..hope they're better than anacondas 10 buck ones!

    mixo

  • Not showing up on Supercheapauto, and the price for shipping is 7.95 at BCF :'(

  • Bought one. This will hopefully do better than the last headtorch I had which melted the wires together and shorted. Good thing I had protected cells in there or it could have got messy

    • Irrelevant. Yours is a completely different thing - no front or rear red.

    • Honestly not sold on this one. Very small battery capacity, though it is smaller and lighter. If you're gonna go lithium, I'd stick with 18650 size cells.

  • Time to upgrade my 4yo headlamp, thanks OP
    EDIT: I cant chooce C&C …

  • If there was a red function, I'd be all over it!

    • +1

      There is a red function

      • Where does it say that?

        • There's a big diagram on the page showing the red sub LED.

        • @dazweeja:
Ah didn't come up on mobile, but I trusted you anyway.

      • Ooh, thanks! I just did a text search for 'red' under specs. Oops.

Even in the photo it looks yellow under there lol.

        Errr. Sold out now, damn.

        • +1

Yeah I own one, and I did get the red light to come on by accident, then I couldn't get it off and thought I'd broken it lol. I think you have to long press the power button. If it comes up again worth buying they're really good

    • +1

      Are you all over it?

      • +3

He was. I do hope he wipes it up now.

      • Sold out.

Went all over the BCF deal though. Still a mess everywhere.

Unfortunately no free delivery from BCF so had to go with C&C, but at least I got the extra 4% off through CR

  • I have a $10 for BCF, Is this worth the $4.99 it'll cost me as the difference over my cu8rrent aldi 3w headtorch, which has done sterling work. If I don't use the credit it expires and the only other thing I need are scupper plugs!

    Ta

    • Since you already have a head torch that works well, might as well just spend your credit on scupper plugs (whatever those things are).

      • ta!

scupper plugs, plugs for the scuppers (holes), in my kayak, keeps my ass dry!

        • Fishing kayak?

        • @ytumer:

Just a cheapie sit on type (bargain, naturally!), but it does the job for fun paddling with the kids.

        • @seraphim2017:
Nice :) Have fun and keep that bum dry.

        • There's a butt plug joke in there somewhere

        • +1

          @addison8019:

          Not too deep I hope.

        • @ytumer:

Well, they only had the size small, bit it fit! (the yak that is!) :)

  • Sorry, an error occurred while processing your request.

    • I got that error too when I tried to order one at around 14:15 AEST. I tried again a few minutes ago and this time it worked.

  • Spent my $10 voucher on this so picked it up for $4.99. Can't have too many cheap head torches in the camper trailer as we always seem to come back from a camping trip with less than what we took.

  • Anyone care to comment on usability for running? Too heavy?

    Thanks.

    • +1

My short answer would be that the separate battery pack looks cumbersome for running with.

My longer answer is: I prefer to "buy once, cry once" so I tend to recommend jumping into the world of 18650 batteries for most torch's. You get over 3 times the battery capacity over a AA in something not much bigger physically, plus you get far more potential output. Also, in the context of this light, I prefer a headlamp that doesn't have a separate battery holder that sits on the back of your head.

I run with a Nitecore HC30 since it uses a traditional reflector, and hence has a tighter beam pattern compared to my Skillhunt H03 or Armytek Tiara A1, which means I can run it on a lower mode for much longer while still seeing far enough ahead of me. Having said that, For about $40 the Skillhunt in my comment above is an absolute steal and would make for a much better everyday light IMO.

      • Thanks for the reply.

I've got a few 18650's batteries and torches for my bicycle. I was hoping to start cheap, like my running (just getting back into it). Then upgrade IF I don't injure myself for the 1,000th time. Be nice to see where I was going so it's not a 'fall' injury :-)

$40 AUD would be a bargain (not $40 USD!).

        • I'll play devil's advocate here. While 18650s are undoubtedly superior, and the Skilhunt is lighter, brighter, and higher quality… It may not balance on your head when running.

With a battery pack at the rear, you have a counterweight so that the light doesn't try to fall forward as you jog. With the Skilhunt, this could be an issue.

        • @JMC:

Thanks people. Will give this cheapo a go and see how it 'runs'!

        • +1

You can get the Skilhunt for just over $40 AUD from Gearbest with a coupon code.

        • @Rodo:

Geeze, couldn't find a working coupon before buying the Gentos, and only now realised you can actually get it down to that price. Great deal.

Still not upset at $20 for the Gentos shipped, but in hindsight I would have grabbed the Skilhunt - better battery, light temperature, output, build quality, and modes.

        • @JMC: maybe it's because I have an overly bulbous head, but I find the top strap keeps both the Nitecore and Skillhunt secure when I'm running. YMMV though, as my head is the biggest I've ever seen

        • @JMC: por que no los dos?

        • +1

          @ebosh:

I actually just ordered the bloody Skilhunt. Will attempt to cancel the Gentle, but if not… Well, "por que no los does?" indeed.

        • @ebosh:

Fair. The lack of a top strap on the Gentos is a bummer for running use, too. On the other hand, having a rear red flasher is very handy for road running at night.

        • @Rodo:

Unless I'm blind, which I'm not, I can't find a coupon to bring it down that much?

Care to share the code, thanks.

        • @JMC:

Thumbs Up. Now for the Newbie Q.

Is there any major Diff between the versions? H03 (TIR lens), H03R (OP reflector), H03F (adjustable)
          NW vs CW?

Will pull the trigger as soon as someone chips in with, 'it's just a touch, it doesn't really matter'!

Running and maybe cycling purposes only.

Cheers all most helpful bargain hunting!!!

        • @HelpWanted:

Yes. CW (Cool white) looks 'whiter' and is (very) slightly more efficient (lumens/watt). It looks impressive indoors, but outdoors makes things look greyish and 'flat', as it doesn't bring out earthy colours very well.

Neutral white is somewhat warmer, and is my strong preference. It's still very white, but renders colour better (making it easier to differentiate between objects).

The H03 will give a big, broad beam without a bright spot in the centre. Good for up-close (walking, working on your car), not so good for cycling. The H03R will be much better for cycling (gives a bright spot with a wide, dimmer 'spill'). The adjustable one gives you the best of both worlds, but you have the somewhat flimsy plastic hinge which might break.

IIRC the coupon codes are version-specific, too.

If your bike already has lights, I'd go with the H03 or H03F. If you want to use it as the only light while cycling, I'd go for the H03R.

        • +1

          @JMC:

H03 NW it is, I think I have the cycling covered with the BLF A6.

          Cheers JMC!

        • @JMC: couldn't have put it better myself. H03 neutral is where it's at.
