  • What do you use them for may I ask ? Good for leaky pipes ?

    • +3

I use them for gift wrapping

    • i've used it a few times it for slow leaks and it works ok. won't work for anything high pressure though.

      • -1

I have a slow leak in my gas main coming in, wrapped with this and it's stopped the leak.

        • Not a good idea. Slow leak could reoccur and go unnoticed. Get it fixed properly

      • won't work for anything high pressure though.

Yes it will work for high pressure. That's the idea of this tape.

    • +1

Anything except pipes then? The properties sound useful for other stuff … but I can't think of any lol

    • +2

      the last space shuttle repair

    • It can also remove unwanted hair

  • Does it really leave no residue? Doesn't show in the picture.

    • +1

I can confirm this thing leaves zero residue. Keep in mind though that while being able to adhere to itself is a good thing, it can also be bad in some scenarios. Example: 2 sticks are insulated with this tape. These 2 insulated sticks cannot touch each other or they will stick together.

      • +1

Will probably buy to line my fishing spool so braid won't slip!

        • +1

          That's…actually a great idea.

      • I like your example, but I can't help wondering why you would insulate sticks?

        • These are electrical sticks.

      • +5

Even without the tape those sticks would be sticky.

  • Works ok as long as it is wound tight and on straight pipes. Doesn't hold well in joints after a while. I bought mine from Bunnings.

  • Thanks guys for the reply, will get one to throw in the toolbox in our household :-)

  • +5

    Makeshift condom.

    • Is the "no residue" specification still accurate?

  • Can the tape be used on a flat surface? I have a piece of flat plastic I need to stiffen.
Or can anyone recommend an alternative?

    • +2

No, it sticks to itself, not to the surface; so you have to wrap it around somehow.

    • Maybe an epoxy (araldite or any other brand).

Or an aluminium duct tape (you may need to apply to both sides).

Of course, attaching an angle section along the piece will give you tons of rigidity, but you'll no longer have a flat piece ;)

  • The toilet deal is very attractive.

  • +1

Price includes all labor and parts

That's actually really interesting, I wonder who is installing toilets for Aldi!

    • +1

Agree. I need to replace an old plastic tank which is leaking. Its not the 'easy' to replace gasket either.

      New ones are around 80-100
So this whole package is tempting.

      • Same here. I am also thinking of replacing old tank and this toilet deal looks better than bringing a plumber

  • +2

Too good a deal for an installed toilet suite. Well done Aldi

    • +1

You probably need to read all the exclusions and fine print on this one. The price would apply only if it is a straight replacement and the water supply and waste pipe are already exactly in the right position. Failing that you are up for big $$$ with the plumber.

      • If it doesn't fit. The plumber will advise you of the extra costs.

If you're not happy with the extra cost, take it back and get a full refund.

        • And who pays the plumber for the call out to assess that the new aldi toilet does not fit the existing plumbing?
It is very rare that a new toilet fits on the existing old plumbing (unless you manage to find the exact same model).

        • -2

          @maxi:

          Aldi.

You don't owe anything to the Plumber as you have an agreement with Aldi and not the plumber.

    • $299 for an installed toilet is a crazy price. Ive paid a similar amount for a plumber to come out and install a tap.

      • Anyone knows the quality of this toilet?

  • 1001 uses?!

  • +1

Thanks for the description. I've never encountered this sort of tape before even though I've seen them in the special buys section. Sounds quite useful.

    • Useful in 1001 ways apparently.

  • +4

I've used this tape to repair my top radiator hose before, it just failed and sprung a leak one day. Wrapped 2 layers and it sealed fine, was on there for several weeks while I found a replacement (old car) and never leaked under pressure/temp. Also used it for a mate to fix his brake fluid reservoir on his motorbike after somebody knocked it and cracked the base, also didn't leak for weeks while he found a replacement, It's good shit.

  • +1

I got the tap last time, and eventually the steel braid split, and rubber hose inside it bulged and eventually split. List the receipt, so no refund. 0/10 would buy again.

    • Wasn't there that article recently about all those flexi style braided hoses that were poorly made and bursting/leaking in peoples' homes? (usually un-awares being inside cabinets and stuff).
But hey that's probably why they sell the tape too :P. It all makes sense now lol j/k

I wouldn't mind such a tap, but would probably be hoping my adjacent Bunnings do their usual price drop of a similar item. Hopefully of better quality ofcourse.

    • +1

I bought the tap last time and have had zero issues. Been using it in a new kitchen for a year

    • Aldi has previously accepted credit card statements as proof of purchase for me. Though you may have paid with cash.

    • +1

My suggestion, with any "Special Buy" purchase made from Aldi, you take a photo of the receipt and it usually fade. This make it easier for returns.

  • I Was just reading about this stuff the other day.

    Other popular uses

    • Insulating/Repairing electrical cables (like headphones, USB Charging cables)
    • Rubber grips for tools (Pliers, hammers, etc)

I was hoping to find a clear one. I want to use it for handlebar tape on my pushie and have run an LED strip underneath it.

  • Two of my toilets at home just died !!!

Not sure if their toilet suite's quality and if easy to get parts in future, would save me lots of money if they are good.

    • Not sure what you exactly mean but replacement lids, cristens and plumbing are just universal parts.

    • Did they drown?

  • +2

It seems the toilet only comes with an option to drain through the floor, not the wall, just be mindful…

    • S-trap only. No P-trap

  • +1

    Good deal on the Dunny.

  • +1

Very good price installed. Good to see no fine print like most other dunny install deals.. i.e. subject to site inspection.

Need to find a good toilet paper deal for a multi buy..

    I note that:
Full vitreous china toilet pan and cistern
    Polypropylene link piece and seat

    effectively its:

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/estilo-wels-4-star-toilet-suite_…

So they are selling a $149 toilet??? basically charging only $150 for the install which is a bargain.
I mean how much do you think the toilet itself is worth, and what are the opinions on the quality?

  • +2

Well, I just rang the helpline for the toilets and and was delighted by the service. They speak clear English and volunteered lots of info, completely sold me on getting 2 replacements for my bathrooms.

    • Did you happen to ask what if it doesnt fit? Can you return it and do you need to pay the plumber?

Also its unclear if they dispose the old dunny.

      • +1

Did you happen to ask what if it doesnt fit?

If it doesn't fit you must acquit.

      • The website states that the disposal of the old dunny is $30.

        https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-10-…

        Still a bargain.

      • +1

They say it fits ALL S trap toilets, because they have an adjustable distance from the wall. They will smash up your old dunny for you to put in the bin for free, or take it all away for $30. The guy said that 99.9% of installs fit without probs.

      • +1

It's also a fully "waste pipe enclosed" type system, and because its adjustable, can replace enclosed OR external pipe systems. It all sounded pretty nifty. If you look at the dimensions in the brochure, the distance from front of cistern to front of pan is given as both 590 mm and 370mm. That's the range of adjustment, and why it fits everything.

FYI, for those who bought the $80 mixer tap from this deal, they have found high levels of lead when recently tested. Please stop using and seek instructions from ALDI. Thread
