It's Portugeese, why sell chicken and not goose?!

  • +12

    What's the price?

      • +3

        $HALF.00

      • +1

        Which half?

        • The significant other.

        • @ms:
          Not the better?

        • @Kangal: We know 50% of that question is correct just not which 50% it is!

  • +9

Looks like a whole chicken goes for $16 normally… so not a bad deal at $8

  • +3

Good deal, same price as Woolies and Coles now, but it's Portuguese Chickens.

    Portuguese Flame Grilled Chicken
    WHOLE CHICKEN

A whole succulent chicken, flame-grilled flat and brush-basted with your choice of Chilli or Lemon & Herb sauce. Note: Nutritional information is without Basting Sauce.

    • How does it compare with Nando's?

      • +1

        Not well.

  • +1

Oporto chicken is nasty in WA. Too much water and the chickens are too big so they're less tender.

    • same with costco. They used to be nice, but it seems the chickens are on roids and hence find the meat bit too tough

      • I don't think "roids" leads to tough meat. Could be wrong.

        • I meant their size. Have you seen the ones they sell at Costco. Min 1.4kg!

    • +7

Too big? I've only been to Oporto twice since they opened up here but my "quarter chicken and chips" that I got was more like a quarter quail and chips. It was tiny. I asked the manager why it was so small and she gave me a slightly bigger bit.

      Haven't been back since.

        No wonder Mirrabooka closed

        • And morley too :/

        • +1

@ozzyoi: Wow, can't really compete tho with Maccas and KFC and Nandos. Caught in between. Can't go wrong with Charcoal Chicken Express Dianella.

  • +12

Oporto's chicken is the size of a pigeon. But taste great.

      • I didn't realise they were related.

        • Or he knew how to click on someone's profile….

        • @Slo20: No I saw that after I commented too, I didn't know the 2 companies were owned by the same parent company

  • Boo hoo, none in SA.

    • Otr/peregrine. Offering genuine deals defeats the pupose of trying to monopolise the market and profiting.

      • +2

SA/OTR Oporto is terrible. It's like they get stale left over burgers from Sydney, freeze them, truck them to Adelaide, defrost them, leave them in a fridge for a few weeks then microwave them to order.

        • That sounds about right. Otr will do anything to maximise profit.

        • The $10 box sold (Bondi, rice, chicken and coke) at Marion isnt sold at Adl CBD Store, Oporto's dont even have same deals in same state and at the same franchise owner.
Marion store is a lot more popular now mcdonalds is gone.

Not sure why someone negged u for that. I did see that line and I think it's still worth a try.

        • +2

Some people just need a Snickers.

          Thanks.

        • @malouphix:

A Snickers would be much cheaper :D

        • @smashed:
It's jv. He randomly negs everyone, so we neg him back. Someone get that man a Snickers!!

    • $5 off not working 😥

      • Did u order 2?

        • Yes

        • @Peanut money: Same here. Not valid together to stack. Got $1.06 in rewards though

Kinda funny how hard it was to find 'Portuguese chicken' in Lisbon…

    • explain please. what kind of chicken do they have there?

      • It's like trying to find Chinese food in China, you know like mini spring rolls or chicken chow mein :)

        • Have you tried the Singapore noodles in Singapore? Yummmmm!!!

        • @jv: Next on my list :)

        • -1

          @malouphix:

          Next on my list

          Chicken Kiev…

          French Fries…

I was expecting every second shop to be based on some sort of grilled chicken product based on my understanding of Nandoes. So you can imagine my frustration at finding ZERO chicken based fast food type shops! I did eat bacalhau and tarts and cavacas however so not all bad :) Damn you Nandoes and your false advertising…
Looking at it the other way I expect people who think Australian food is mostly like Outback Jack to be similarly disappointed ;)

    • Do you prefer cabidela (rice + chicken blood)?
Maybe because Portuguese have their own brick BBQ grill =D (stereotype)

  • +1

    "Australia’s home-grown Portuguese chicken brand"

There is something odd about that

    • +1

All I get from that is their bitterness they aint Nandos.

  • -3

does the $8 chicken include chips and drink?

    • Lol

I ran out of negs to neg u

      • -7

why would i deserve a neg? i have never tried it in my life and i thought $16 for a chicken (i assume meal) doesn't come with chips and drink would be kinda expensive

    • $8 for just the chicken by itself + choice of sauce.

    • And drink with a Portuguese tart for dessert

    • -1

Yes and also they will throw in a free iPad

  • does the whole chicken come with free sauce sachets like nandos?

also are the whole chickens available as soon as the store opens?

im worried i wont be able to get it at lunch time, as it says "until stocks last"

  • nvmd - wrong brand :( thought it was Nandos

  • +1

better order it fast otherwise it will be ozbargained and they will run out of chicken :)

  • Never had their chicken before, how does it compare to Nandos?

    • +2

How could you ever say such words?????

      Nothing compares to Nandos!

Seriously - Oportos can be hit and miss depending on the store and time of day but Nandos is 99% perfect. No matter where you have it.

      • Haha fair enough, I'll give it a whirl anyway.

Would you say this sits between kfc and nandos?

        • +2

More like between red rooster and nandos.

      • Nandoes is good but I'm not sure how much better for $19.50

  • +1

    Whaat, Doncaster is closed

    • Yeah when did that happen? I was looking at their store locator for something close to the northern suburbs and noticed that one had disappeared.

  • Bargain … we dont have any Nandos around near us. Oporto is fine by me, especially at $8 a pop.

  • +1

I'll give it a try but 8/10 of the times when I go to my local one has been dry and burnt chicken.

  • +2

The Mrs wanted Oporto chicken so I went last night after work and bought one with lemon and herb dressing. I was shocked at the price of $16 to be honest. $8 is more like it for the chicken. To be fair it was very delicious

    • +1

If ur shocked at $16 for a cooked chook… do urself a favour and don't go to nandoes. U might have a heart attack instead!

  • obrigado dinner sorted galinha on dia de portugal.

  • +2

Hopefully they don't "mysteriously" run out of chooks by mid afternoon.

  • Does anyone has a coupon for this deal?

    • No coupon required mate

  • +2

Nandos > Oporto but for this price, I'll make do. Thanks for the post.

  • +1

Anyone able to order at this price?

    • It's a bit early for BBQ chicken in the morning.

      • Username does not check out

  • +1

My store has already somehow "ran out of chicken" it's 11:45…

    • +5

Make a complaint. They're trying to avoid a loss because they're a franchise.

  • My local store had no signage about this deal. Walked up to counter and asked for the half price chicken, no problems and tucking into it for lunch now. Thanks OP.

  • Woolies has them for $8 every Tuesday.
It's their dead chook Tuesday promotion

  • any luck in SA? was going to pick one up for dinner

    • +1

Went to thorngate SA, and was told they weren't ready and was sent elsewhere. Went there and there wasn't any chicken that was still on sale. Ended up calling the store (thorngate again) at 10pm to see if they had got some made now. They asked how many and I said 2. They said yes. Arrived and said I was the one who had called up earlier. They basically said it was too bad, and that it was only one whole chicken per customer.

All in all, it is a good price for those who scored first time. I guess you win some and lose some. But some how I think this promotion couldve been more prepared. I had asked them how many they had sold and only 12 had sold that day.

      • +2

I went to same store around 5pm, lady said its only for 1/2 chicken for 1/2 price. I said fine I'll take 2.
I showed the email i received, lady said she'd only received the same email today and didn't know how to put it through.
She said they know how to put it through at brompton torrens rd store (which was just to make me leave)

        What a great promo!!!

  • Out of whole chicken at the Highpoint branch.

    • They still had half chickens at full price hahhaha

  • Collected an original chicken (yeah, yeah I know all the jokes) for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised at how courteous the guy behind the counter was (historically they've all been sleazy so stopped going ages ago) - great service and a great tasting chicken. Thanks op!

  • Went to Melbourne central at 3.30pm. Was told to return at 4pm. Turned up at 4.10pm tp be told all sold out.

  • Came at 1pm, was told that run out of chicken. Came back at 4pm, told that sold out n come back in 2hrs.

  • Picked one up about 2pm today. Thanks OP. No signage in-store.

  • Thanks OP had to wait over an hour to get my chicken, but it was well worth the wait absolutely delicious.

  • Oportos Carlingford Court: "Oh yeah we have that promo, but you'll have to wait 3 hours". There was all of one other customer there at the time. So they had the promo and just chose not to make any available.

    Guess who won't be back.

    • So it seem like 3 people out of the whole Australia got a cheap chook yesterday at Oporto. Way ta piss off ur customers.

  • Got 4 whole chickens at Livingstone WA. Waited for 40 minutes.
