Virgin Mobile $45/Mth 18GB SIM Plan 12 Month Contract (Velocity Members)

740
BONUS3GB

Up 1GB from the previous offers, Virgin Mobile are offering a 3GB bonus ontop of their (new normal) $50 15GB SIM only 12-month plan, with the usual 10% Velocity discount making it $45/mth 18GB.

Like previous offers it doesn't show up if you try and upgrade as an existing customer. I haven't tried asking on the phone or online chat if they can apply it manually (as like the last offer I don't think I'll switch personally) but I would be pretty confident you could squeeze it from one of the reps surely.

I picked up the 17gig deal a few weeks ago and have been very happy with the service and coverage.

Plus, having free Spotify and iHeart radio leaves plenty of data left, without having to worry.

    • And the rollover data :))
Haven't been using wifi on phone since then.

      • Same here! Joined spotify for 0.99c for 3 months and have 20gb of data left from the roll over! so good!

On your virgin app, is it showing 15gb only? mine still shows 15gb

        • It shows 17 for mine if I am not mistaken .

        • If it only shows 15gb contact them on the online chat and inform them you are missing the extra 2gb. They added my 2gb after they confirmed m I ordered on the 4th of may.

        • @Battle-Pigeon:
          What's next 40GB data for $20 ??

i think the kogan $25/month (once discounted) with 14 gb is the one for me. This is still good though.

I agree Kiriakoz and as I've mentioned in other threads, there's a trick to save further 15% on a Kogan plan, saving $20+ a month from Kogan vs other providers is not something to ignore!

      • +1

        What's the trick? Please explain!

        • +1

          PMed

        • @tajid: I also would be quite interested in this trick as I am transferring to Kogan at the end of my billing period :)

        • @tajid:

@tajid - would love to know about this! Thanks :)

      • Do tell

      • @tajid I am also about to move over to Kogan, PM me please!

      • Don't want to know it but why would you need to PM a trick on OzBargain? Just say it publicly?

        • because this is a deal section, forum policy doesn't allow some other sections of this forum content to be mentioned here.

I got this few weeks ago too and I have to say (I'm in Sydney) the coverage and quality is nothing compared to Telstra. It can be slow, sometimes data doesn't work at all, but most of the time it's fine, I'm on LG V20 incase that makes a difference. I can go from a download speed for 120mb down one minute to 0.1mb the next, all while still on 4G+. When I was on Telstra I don't think I ever had anything but 4G+ lots of 3G and 4G on Optus/Virgin.

I know Virgin is meant to be identical to Optus, but from my experience and comparing to Optus phone on GS7, there's a big difference. It's not going to be the signal but in the backend systems that just seem to give a different experience.

Saying all that, for 17Gb I would do it again as I came from 4GB on Telstra freedom plan

Same as you came from Freedom Plus plan. Took ages and much heartache to give up my free Google Play credit every month but had to do it due no low data allowance. Reception wise, it really doesn't compare to Telstra. In Docklands the reception is always on H or low bar 4G. I do however get 4G+ more in other areas but sometimes the Internet doesnt work at all. Telstra is so much better in consitency and works well even in the Metro train tunnels. Was with Optus 8 years ago. Feels like not much has changed. Phone batt draining more now too probably trying to connect to towers all the time. With the amount of data and price. Can't complain too much I guess. Hopefully in a years time Telstra plans are more generous.

On my Optus months I struggle to get a working data signal because of peak hour congestion on Sydney train, it's pretty frustrating.

Telstra doesn't make it the whole trip but at least it's mostly usable. Vodafone is works fine, possibly because nobody uses Vodafone.

      • Glad it's not just me. I'm getting told work is being carried out etc etc. But on Telstra it was always rock solid, things were so good I never needed to think about it. I think if Telstra have a good deal, I'm gone from Virgin/Optus. Would be 8GB of Telstra data over 17GB of rubbish on Virgin.

Me and my husband didn't get approved for contract and we have a great credit history. Has anyone else had the same issue?

    • nope - ask for a credit report?

Scams you might not know about?

  • -3

Man you contract people are paying a lot compared to prepaid. I have no idea what Vodafone gives you for $40 dumbo made up money I didn't bother to check but I only paid $15 for it.

    • not sure what your sentence is saying but i am liking the vodoafone offer of 12GB for $25, currently just using aldi mobile but no home internet currently so i have smashed my data included might go switch over to vodafone for abit while nbn is getting connected.

  • I signed up at the last deal. The trade off for so much data and rolling over is that is definitely slower for pages to load compared to my Vodafone plan. Frustrating when you are wanting to put on a bet just before they jump.

Vodafone are currently doing double data for 12 month sim only plans.

18GB for same price but with $5 daily roaming. Might help some people.

Stack it with student discount and sorted.
They don't ask to verify, just choose occupation as student.

  • Signed up as an existing customer. Virgin chat support assisted in confirmation that the bonus 3GB and velocity linked correctly. Thanks OP.

Joined the same plan for 17GB last month.
Chat online with the staff and she said since i am on the same plan and link my velocity membership as well she give me another 1GB to make it to 18GB as the current offer.

    • Nicely done!

I just chatted with the Virgin Mobile Online team, I was on the 15Gig $50 SIM only deal (12 months), she said you can't upgrade to include the Velocity Discount without paying out the existing contract first.

But, she was able to add the other 3gig on there to give 18gb with the same contract expiry date.

And BONUS, when she added the extra data my data counter reset to 0kb used, so a fresh 18gigs with 14 days left of my billing cycle - happy days!

    I signed up for this……
Did it after the deal had closed.

I got the $50 (cash rewards credit), but becaue I did it direct with Virgin, the $50 came off by bills. I was on the $40/10gb month to month deal, which was always refered to by Virgin as a $60 deal.
So last month's bill was free and $10 off this month's bill still in credit.
I got the original 17gb deal, but because I pushed when the 18gb deal about, I got upgraded to that. Except I get 17gb, plus 2gb bonus. Have done for last month's and this month too, so wasn't a once off.
And, as I switched over at the start of my monthly billing cycle,I was able to rollover the original 10gb from my month to month plan deal too, so at this stage, I have 29gb for the month.!!
