28 Degrees Unauthorised Transaction/Fraud

Has anyone else received an automated call to verify one of the transactions on your 28 Degrees Card.

My Card seems to have been used multiple times online and it has now been blocked.

I seldom use this card and wonder where from they skimmed the details.

  • That's concerning. Have you rung and asked 28degrees?

I seldom use this card and wonder where from they skimmed the details.

There's no way anyone can answer this for you with the (lack of) detail you've provided.

Just move on/don't worry about trying to figure it out I say.

  • Many possibilities: Some dodgy online shops database got compromised, virus on your computer, purchase on unsecured page/open wifi, nfc skimming… etc. It doesn't matter how often you use it.
Check with 28 degree, make sure you're not out of pocket, get a new card number and move on.

      Wouldn't be NFC.

Even the crooks like the "no fee on international transactions" 28 Degrees card.

  • Happened to me once - they reversed it for me. I didn't stress about working out how it happened. They could have been sitting on the details for a while and I wouldn't even know.

What I did have an issue with is although 28 Degrees cancelled my card, they didn't order a new one for me, so may be worth checking they do this.

I had my 28 degrees card changed 3 times within 1 year (2 years back) - keep getting fraudulent charges but Mastercard waived those charges. I am not sure how these guys (the fraud party) works - they seem to have access to Mastercard data base itself - I had one where my new card got various charges even before I received them as I keep getting sms to confirm the transaction (as my old card was cancelled, only explanation is that the charges is towards the new cards).

    • A few years back 28 deg called me and told me they were reissuing me a card. About 6 months later they did it again. Claimed unauthorized transactions.

  • Thank you all. 28 Deg confirmed that the old card is cancelled and a new card is getting issued. They have also confirmed that all the disputed transactions will be investigated and the outcome confirmed within 45 days.

    • lol 45 days.

"we'll take a look at the transactions….. sometime in the next 2 months."

      love it.

  • We used 28 Degrees cards and had great experiences with them. We pre-loaded the credit cards with funds so it acted as a debit card, we were able to withdraw cash without incurring fees and interest accrual from the day we withdrew. The only issue with this is they don't cover the funds for fraud.

We specifically used them for our honeymoon in USA and upon return, we received a call about a month later advising the cards had to be cancelled as one of the hotels we stayed at had their EFTPOS systems hacked and all credit card details were exposed. 28 Degrees advised new cards would be sent out, regardless of whether there were fraudulent transactions on our cards or not.

Pretty good service, what killed it for us was they introduced minimum card withdrawal charges regardless of whether on credit or debit.

  • Just had fraud on my card this weekend,

    Cause:
New card was sent as current was near expiry, said new card never reached my mail box (no sign of tampering, high security lock).
Best case, missed delivered to neighbouring apartment building, worst case, questionable postal staff.

    Events:
Received auto-machine call from 28 Degrees asking to call their fraud number, attempting many times and getting hung up after 40 secs gave up for that day.
Received a msg about a 'credit increased' I didn't request.
Next day check card online, many cash advance and chargers. Rang Fraud number again, once again didn't get through. Call the 'Lost'/Stolen card number' eventually got transferred to fraud department.

  • These scammers are becoming too sophisticated..

My dispute is still with them and I expect all the charges to be reversed. Will keep the thread posted once I have a significant update.

All - My charges got reversed and had been provided with a new card. Happy customer!

    • That's great news! Although it is a bit concerning that it took so long. When this happened to me in July last year, the charges were reversed within 3 weeks. Perhaps it's because of the change from GE to Latitude Finance that everyone seems to be harping on about…
