  • We got one of these a few months back, we are happy with it. Cannot compare it to any other mattresses from a box as we haven't tried them, however they are a fair bit cheaper, almost half price of the Koalas!

    • Does the bed feel soft, medium, medium-firm, firm?

      • +1

I just got one delivered today. It's expanding, I would say medium for now. Choice said it's firmer than other mattresses in a box (e.g. ecosa, koala, and greywing).

  • Lazybed.com.au with pre order code of "PRE350" works out cheaper before 14/06/17 if you're looking for a King

    • The queen is $600 after discount. I actually wanted to try lazybed, but I needed a mattress desperately so went with Avatar. It'd be interesting to find out if you like lazybed.

      • Yeh, had to edit my comment that it was for the LazyBed King Size that worked out cheaper than BedsOnline King.

I got the Ecosa King, but that was too firm for me, even when I flipped the topper around to get the Med-Firm. Hopefully LazyBed is more on a soft or medium side.

I am interested in mattress in a box. Anyone can comment how this compare to other brands? I like firm mattress.

      This is good: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/mattresses

It's difficult to tell which is the firmest. Hardly anyone tried all of the boxed mattresses.

      • Thanks for the link.

    • I got the Koala initially and returned it after a couple of months replacing it with an Avatar. My problem with the Koala was it started sagging in the middle and was a bit too soft. The avatar is firmer and so far no sag.

  • I've been on Ergoflex (think Tempur whitout the price tag) when it first came to Aus before the revelation of cheap & good foam mattress such as the Koala or the Lazybed.

Can anyone comment on the difference given the pricing is relatively comparable and Ergoflex's matresss is also delivered compressed?

The fact that Choice has awarded this brand a recommended has had me second thinking. Also was Ergoflex assessed in the review?

    • More reading: https://www.choice.com.au/home-and-living/bedroom/mattresses…

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/mattresses is very comprehensive.

Ergoflex puts me away as it has only 30 nights trials while other boxed mattresses have over 100 nights trial.

      • Thanks for your post. Bought one but was on backorder though.

Does it have unbearable chemical smell?

Do you have Choice's membership account to access their detailed mattress review? What is Choice score compared to other mattresses in their test?

On Avatarmattress.com.au website, it says it comes with 101 nights trial and free return like Koalas and others. However, the 101 nights trial policy on bedsonline.com.au is completely different with very tricky Exchange policy and fee.

When this was posted, there were still some stocks left.

It had an unbearable smell, and I actually had a headache because of the smell. Luckily, the smell went away after about one day? of unboxing it, I kept my windows open though as I wasn't staying at my new place for the first night.

I had problems sleeping well for a few months, but my sleep quality has improved noticeably after sleeping on the Avatar.

As for Choice, I'd rather not reveal more details since Choice spent quite a bit on this testing, but someone has posted the scores on Ozbargain. You can find the scores easily using Google. :)

And as for the return policy, I had the same concern. If you notice carefully, the phone number on the Avatar website is the same as Beds Online. I also confirmed with the LiveChat about the return policy for Avatar mattresses for the purchase via Beds Online and screenshot to document that. You may also refer to this page about Avatar return policy: https://www.bedsonline.com.au/avatar/

          Hope this helps.

  • Is memory foam at hot as latex? I need to replace my latex mattress that is too hot even in winter!

  • Memory foam mattresses are known to be warmer than the avg due to the density of the material.

It's quite a task putting on the sheets given the weight of the mattress!

  • Memory foam? Why would I want another entity in this universe remembering how fat I am? ;-)

  • I've got one. Thanks OP. I hope it will be firm enough for me.
