  • Guess Vodafone family and friend will come soon

  • Avoid Telstra crap contracts. Go boost if you want the Telstra coverage!

    • Boost is expensive and prepaid I think. If you're after a phone with a lot of data, Boost isn't going to offer it.

  • +1

    Desktop link is https://www.mbnmobiles.com.au/

I can't see any mention of bonus data?

    • thanks, not sure it didnt hyperlink in the description.

  • +2

Current Telstra Unlimited BYO Plan is

    $50 for 8GB and $1,000 calls.
$70 for 15GB and Unlimited calls.

The BYO version of this deal seems to be

$56 for 8GB plus bonus (no mention of bonus on website) and Unlimited calls.

    • Hi seb,
Bonus Data is applied by Telstra and triggered by contract addition date.

BYO Version also available as you have seen. $70 drops to $56 if you have your own device.

  • I'm waiting for the pixel 2, otherwise this would be great

    • +1

Lets see how long Telstra take till they get it.

The HTC U11 was released in Australia last week, and Telstra will be releasing it Week 1 in July.

      • Pixel 2 should have more of a fanfare than the U11.

Still, no release date though :(

        • +1

Quite true, but the HTC U11 has done fantastic in all the reviews and I have to agree it's blazing fast.

Camera is brilliant and a true flagship, even disregarding the unique Point if Difference being the Sense Squeeze which is actually practical.

Nearly forgot that the audio is. Great too.

Lastly HTC actually made the Pixel for Google.

Not sure who is earmarked to built the Pixel2 at this stage, but probably HTC again.

  • Im paying 50 bucks a month for 15gb on telstra. If i chat them they will match deals.

    • I'm finding out but I don't think it will be available to match. If I hear otherwise I will let you know.

  • how is this better than last deal? I got $90pm for 25GB data for 24 months with S8 phone for free.

    • +2

      Hi mooreshady,

That deal was great but ended last week i believe.

You also needed to know someone with a Telstra ID.

I agree for the extra $4 for the extra 13gb (if you got the deal) is worth it, but not everyone uses that much. I probably only need 4-6gb so this deal works for me and possibly many others. Thats why I have shared it here.

      • The deal has been extended to 30th June so still current

  • Question: If I'm an existing Telstra direct customer and sign up, do I keep my existing Telstra account/billing setup or would I start to be billed by MBN separately?

    • All bills still come from Telstra! With this deal you simply have access to the discount of the respective plans!

You will be able to keep your same Telstra account number.

It still goes via Telstra's credit approval process but as an existing customer you should be fine if you keep on top of your bills!

If someone was previously rejected by Telstra's credit approval process then this isnt for them.

  • +1

    A question on "eligibility"…
the OzB deal description says family and friends, but the MBN signup form asks for the customers' (my) details for "Medical group"
Do I just select "Other" if it is ME as the customer, but my brother is the eligible medical professional?

    • Hi, Yes. You select 'Other'!

      • Thanks.
How long does the verification/order processing normally take?
I've actually submitted an order, but haven't received any followup other than the onscreen application number at the end of the form

        • PM me your name and I'll follow it up if they haven't already responded!

        • @GLO:
          PM sent :)

  • At what point in the process do they verify the friend/family credentials?

    • +2

      Verification process is relaxed.

If you access via the link, it is assumed you have a family/friend who directed you to it.

      • Excellent news

      • so they don't verify the credentials if you use the link?

  • does the $200 welcome credit still apply if you're already with Telstra?

    • Let me check!

If you are coming from another carrier then you will also receive additional bonus.

I'll clarify and report back later today.

      • I get a $10 monthly "loyalty" credit, would that carry over?

        • Hi Shaun1,

The Loyalty credits were to offset people who did not want a handset bundled.

We have the Go Mobile Plus BYO plan which is available at a reduced cost (somewhat equivalent to the Loyalty credit you were referring to)

For example the $70 Go Mobile Plus BYO plan reduces to $56.

    • Hi reno,

The $200 welcome credit is not part of this campaign sorry.

However If you are with a non-Telstra provider, I can confirm that you will receive a credit equivalent to 2months of your chosen plan.

  • Ah i wish sony xperia xz premium was there..

  • Hi OP, is the 20% discount valid for the life of the 24 month contract term or is until you change/modify the plan?

    • +1

Hi, the discount if for the term of the plan.

It would be fair to assume that the deal will evolve in 24 months.

  • Would having a relative who is a nurse qualify please?

*edited - Have just noticed in the process that a nurse is accepted as a qualification, thanks.

  • Is it just me, or do these BYO plans include less data than the current Telstra offerings?
For example MBN $56 ($70-20%) offers 8GB on a 24 month plan, Where the Telstra M Plan ($70) offers 15GB and no contract.

  • GLO does Telstra do a home phone/ ADSL / mobile bundle?

    • Good question. I want to know the answer to this too

    • ADSL yikes.

Get cable if you can. It's must faster.

when I spoke to them a few months ago there was no bundle, or no discount for bundling them together. Optus will discount $20 pm.

  • +1

So this looks a better deal than the current Optus ones we have seen here lately. Optus hasn't done anything to keep customers, only offered new services deals and if you wanted to recontact you were ineligible. Telstra offer of iPhone 7 with unlimited calls/sms and 8GB+4GB of data will see me move from Optus to Telstra. Cheaper and better coverage all for $86 … Optus want $94 for the same.

Am I reading this deal right, if you require the charger and lightening cable for the iPhone its extra?

    • Hi troyboy,

I will update my post, but anyone porting in from a non-Telstra carrier (Voda or Optus or any carrier using their network) will also receive a Port In Bonus equivalent to 2 months of the selected plan!

The IPhone comes with a Lightening cable included in the box, we have just listed additional accessories for people who want to purchase a spare for the car or office.

      • Hi GLO

Can you elaborate on what you mean by 'Port In Bonus equivalent to 2 months of the selected plan!' are you saying you get 2 months free?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this how it works:

        $76/month plan + $10/month phone = $86 per month.

        Its a 24 month contract so costing $86 x 24 months = $2064 OR does your port in bonus mean its $86 x 22 months = $1892.

Also what is the $200 welcome credit spoken about above. Do we get that? How does that work?

        • Hi troyboy,

If you select the $76/month plan you will receive 2x $76 credit after your 3rd bill. (if you are with Optus or Vodafone)

The Handset cost is still payable being $10 in your example.

The $200 welcome isn't part of this campaign and the 20% discount over the term (on the $95 plan equates to $456) exceeds that credit. Not sure if its still available but it isn't stackable.

  • MBN send a email to me.
Told me that should tell him my credit card num to pay $10.
Can I trust him to tell him my card num?

    Thanks for the below order.

I’ve ordered the below unit in, as soon as it comes in tomorrow I will advise you and sent the unit out to you.

Can you also quote me a credit card number for the $10 Freight fee please.

    Mod: Telephone numbers removed

    • I was contacted by Anna this morning and I decided to trust her… prior to her call I received all the official plan/data quota change notifications directly from Telstra to both my phone number and Telstra specific email address (which MBN would not know or were given).

So all seems legit, if you're worried about CC fraud/random people calling and asking for your credit card. :)

Proof will be when the new phone arrives, which I was told will be tomorrow

      • I don't receive any notifications from telstra……

        • Hi Yoshi678,

The credit card is taken over the phone so it is not stored anywhere and destroyed after. Only for the purpose of delivery charge.

        • Hi Yoshi678,

You receive the notifications once your order is approved.

          Please PM me.

        • @GLO:
          I already PM you yesterday.

      • Thanks KJA,

Appreciate you clarifying your experience from my team 'from the customers perpective'

Delivery is by TNT during business hours.

For others invade they ask. Pick up is available from Mascot if you don't have a credit card!

      • New iPhone 7 just arrived as promised.

        :)

        • How did you get 20% discount?

    • yoshi678, are you associated with Mbnmobiles?

      • no

        • OK, association removed.

  • I also received an email from Anna this morning, I called her back to give her my CC details. she also emailed me again later for copies of my IDs I'd used for verification. I have not yet received any emails or contact from Telstra…..

    • Me too.
Then I sent some email to ask her When will my order be completed? When will you ship a phone to me?
But she doesn't reply to me………

      • I haven't heard anything this morning either, I was thinking of emailing her shortly. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

      • yoshi678 Did you get any notifications yesterday? I did late in the day.

        • I got some notifications last Friday.
She said will be delivery tomorrow.
asked for a TNT tracking number and I can track it. it's yet to be picked up 17:00PM today.
But it shows IN TRANSIT 18:00PM today.

I ordered s8+ 128GB(If you want to order s8+, you can only order 128GB version, not 64GB version).
Then I asked her, this one is HK version, China version or Korea version?
Because only these three countries have 128GB.
And I also told her AU version don't have 128GB.
But she just said" You placed the below order(128GB) and that is what I will be suppling you with." last Thursday.
          Programed answering back system……
          Last Friday, she said"
I have created a new service and contracted the Samsung Galaxy s8+ 64gb as per your order.
Please note that there is no 128Gb available with model handset."
What I worried the most has happened.

All attachment from Telstra and Mbn don't show 20% off.
Now I most worried the matter is "Is it really 20% discount?"

        • @yoshi678: I asked her about that, she said that the SMS's are system generated without the discounts in place and that once the discount codes are applied it will be reflected on my account.

My handset also appears to be on the move finally also!

        • @Limeslemons:

When will we get the discount codes?
When we active the sim card, need the discount codes?

        • @yoshi678: No, we don't get the discount codes, she has them applied to our accounts thru Telstra.

        • @Limeslemons:
I got the phone, sim card and puk code.
But I don't know where to enter the puk code….

        • @yoshi678: I'd say that is just for unlocking your phone or something if you accidentally can't get in. Is t it a Personal Unlock Code?

        • @Limeslemons:

Do you know should we create new account to pay the bill by Telstra 24x7 ?

        • @yoshi678: I was already an existing Telstra customer with an existing number which I've used for thisnew phone, they've updated the details already in my Telstra 24/7 app automatically.

        • @Limeslemons:
          Thanks.

She said 20% discount will appear the second month bill.

        • @yoshi678:

          Hi Yoshi678,

The puck code is only needed if you block your sim card.

        • @GLO:
Why my next bill is $118, not $108 ?
My contract is $135 per month.
          20% discount should be $108.

  • Hi OzBargainers,

Just after some feedback about this? Are people receiving there phones and happy with the process?

I've sent @GLO a private message but haven't heard back.

    Appreciate some feedback.

    Cheers

I've not received the phone yet, due tomorrow apparently. I asked for a TNT tracking number and I can track it, it's yet to be picked up. I've received numerous texts and emails from Telstra and my data and plan has already been updated on my 24/7 app/account.

      • Hi Limeslemons,
Have you received your tracking number and more importantly your phone?

Hi GLO, sorry, I didn't receive a notification about this post, so I just saw it now.

Yes, I received the phone yesterday, set it up today and everything is great.

          Thanks so much!

Yes, just confirming you and I spoke today and am awaiting your order.

      Thanks

  • @GLO My friend is a nurse that works nights (sleeps during the day) and I wanted to know if they will be contacted by phone - i obviously do not want them to be woken.

    Thanks!

    • Hi scadam,

If the mobile service is for you, we won't need to contact your nurse friend! (She can sleep in)
