What's Your Go-to Take out Meal?

Hi all,

I recently became a non-vegetarian, after years of being a vegetarian (By choice).

I was very well equipped to make food decisions that were budget conscious for Vegetarian options - Almost always opting for a $5 pizza from Domino's or $7.95 if I'm feeling super adventurous.

But now that I'm no longer vegetarian, there are a bunch of more options e.g. $1 hamburger from Maccas or a $2 BBQ Cheeseburger from HJ (To start soon) and so on. Lately, I've just been grapping a Hawaiin pizza from Woolies (Woolies Brand) For $2.95. They taste horrible, and require 20 mins in an oven (not to mention electricity). So a pretty poor decision, I must admit.

What is your best recommended go-to take out staple?

where do you buy them as a take away?

      • +1

what starts with "Super" and ends with "market"?

        • +1

thats not a take away though is it.

our dog loves a few frozen peas for a treat btw.

take away, take out. same same. you must give your dog a really good lovin' then. that's fantastic

    Woolworths pizza? Terrible…

Find a decent local pizza shop. I try to eat well, and cut down on carbs, but holy crap. This place near my house does a capricciosa die for!

Or a good hamburger with the lot, from my local fish and chip shop!

    • I was hoping for something cheaper than local joints - Often $9-$12 per pizza.

What is your best cheap recommended go-to take out staple?

There really isn't a cheap option, except for terrible Domino's and Pizza Hut. Fish and Chips? Minimum of chips for $3 and a few dim sims?

Dont get woolies pizza.. i stocked up on McCains Rustica pizza for $3.50 each on special.. best damn frozen pizza I have ever had, even better than some pizza shops i have tried… add some extra toppings and they are a great meal.

        • Noted for future reference! Thx

          @unistudent1:
some of the Aldi frozen pizzas a good too, roasted Beetroot and goats cheese was good.

        • The Aldi beetroot pizza is my new favourite - better than Dr Oetkers

        • what extra toppings do you put on the McCains Rustica pizza ?

    • fish and chip shop burgers suck, with so many burger places in melbourne the solely do burgers we are absolutely spoilt for choice and have so many options. Go find a good burger place (use zomato etc) and enjoy.

Subway w/wholemeal bread, chicken & salads.

    • What's that…$7?

      • Yeah & $10 for the footlong, i usually get a garlic toastie with it they so good

  • Fried eggs with a bit of soy sauce with sardines served on top of rice is tasty and cheap… much healthier than take out… but I do like my five buck peperoni pizza from Domino's.

  • La Porchetta cook a decent pizza.

  • burrito bowl at Guzman or Zambrero (the best is the Bowl IQ)

    Thai take away
    Dominos/ KFC (9 for $9)

  • Frozen Pies from Coles/Woolies are pretty tasty (not healthy) - 4 for $4 ($2-3 if on special).

    • the coles one are $3.80 for 4 and the same star rating as others.

the lamb with mint pies are OK I reckon.

  • HJ's two for $6.95 bacon deluxe, add a $1 frozen drink

then again, it's been six months since I did

the last takeout I had was local pizza shop 3x12" for $31. 4 pieces of that pizza fills you up like 8 of dominos

Go to Coles and find the "gourmet" pizzas in the garlic bread section. They are often marked down to $2.95 to $3.75 or so and buy them up in bulk. Put them in the freezer. They are delish.

This week I bought some Stoned Baked Pane Di Casa bread rolls ($2.50) from Coles and cheese and salami, so I am slapping that all together for a quick and easy lunch.

    • Thanks for the tip re gourmet pizzas, i had never noticed them

  • At work, it would either be Subway (footlong herb & cheese, chicken classic, toasted, lettuce, cucumber, chipotle sauce, salt and pepper) or a chicken garlic wrap (chicken, garlic and lettuce) with hot chips from local cafe.

At home, charcoal chicken. I could live with just eating that for the rest of my life. Has to have chips and a tub of garlic, as well as Lebanese bread.

      See you at El Jannah!

  • Maccas app $5 golden meal?

    • Arnotts Chicken Crimpy Shapes with Hommous - $4

Only Americans have this thing you call "take-out"

In Oz we call it take-away.

American TV and movie culture is taking us over. Perhaps the new citizenship test should be Amercian values, there ain't many Aussie ones left.

    • I thought the same thing when I read the thread title. I have also noticed fellow Aussies are also starting to say "it's cold out" rather than "it's cold outside".

  • Usually a pizza because you get quite a bit for your money. Also fish & chips.

  • Hungry Jacks get all 4 of those burgers for $10 (2 x 2 for $5)

  • Merged from Dinner Suggestions Please - Maccas

    Hi guys I'm in Sydney

Mate just rubbed in my face 24 nuggets for $10 in Vic

    Now I'm craving that.

Idk the go with fast food…I recently turned non vegetarian, after many years being a vegetarian.

    What can I have instead?

    Fast food?

I'm thinking something along the lines of popcorn chicken for a similar price…or red rooster etc…?

    Thanks fam

This in my mind is a poor quality post. I know you are young but some of your life concerns are not important enough for Ozbargain. I think you should work this one out yourself big guy.

Failing that, ask lady at counter for Happy Meal.

      • +1

But why can't a grown man ask random people online what he should have for dinner?

    • $8 roast chook from coles/woolies, I'm sure that will keep you fed for a couple of days

      • Woolies - $7.90.

Think of what you could spent that 10c savings on!

    • +1

Despicable Me 3 Family Box $26.95 might be able to combine with this.

    • +1

May I ask why you made the switch to eating meat again?

      • probably because it was cheaper?

      • Cheaper. No joke

    • -1

Those nuggets are unhealthy for you.

      Stick with Mi Goreng, plz.

      U r welcome.

      • +1

mi goreng + 24 nuggets, now that's what you call a tasty dinner.

    • Avoid chicken nuggets in general if you can, Maccas used to have popcorn chicken, which actually tasted like chicken, not sure what happened to it.

Or wait till tomorrow and get 9 KFC pieces for 9.95 and rub that back in your mate's face? :P

      • Just the greasy paper not the chicken

        • You'll have to be pretty keen to rub someone's face with greasy paper from 900kms away. :)

        • +1

          @geek001: Post it :-)

      • Are you referring to Chicken McBites? They still have them (at the one in the Myer food court in Sydney anyway)

  • Sushi!

  • Pork rolls my friend is probably the cheapest also quite interesting to make.. cheaper than a subway and just as good as maybe a pizza or kebab.

Chips is usually filling also and sometimes spinach rolls from various bakeries.

Well tbh domino's value range pizza is the best unless you live near a Lebanese bakery then $5 half meat and cheese pizzas are the best.
