another excellent VDSL modem, called the Archer VR600 (TP Link). It runs a Broadcom BCM63168U chipset, same chipset found in a lot of higher end devices, with 1 gig of RAM and 128MB of flash. So it's a pretty solid unit for the asking price of $169. Check it out

Pete Y Testing is my go-to guy if you need networking device help and this device has his tick of approval in the forums.

Scrimshaw's tick of approval doesn't count for much unfortunately. It's not CCNA approved (and definitely not TGA approved either)

May I know how does TP Link Archer D9 ADSL2 Router compare to TP Link Archer VR600 VDSL/ADSL2 Router Modem?
My main purpose is simply to buff the signal.
        Thanks :)

If all you need is an access point to increase wifi range try Ubiquiti APs, they are business-grade wifi access points and are very good.

There are cheaper Ubiuti's that do only 802.11n MIMO, will set you back maybe $130.

i own one and can also recommend…… it replaced an asus 68 which sometimes used to drop the line, the vr600 has been flawless.
when my cable pit was flooded, 3 weeks no tpg adsl…… put a usb dongle with sim in the vr600 and it ran fine on 4G till tpg and telstra fixed line.

      paid $169 for mine

this new vr line supercedes their D7,9 models .

i'd get a vr2600 next time but they are still expensive.

  • getting FTTC by the end of the year. as I understand it, I need a VDSL modem which this is so I guess this is compatible… right?

everything I search for comes up for fttn

    • TBH at this point I'd rather just get a MU-MIMO router. It's reaching critical mass device-side, since most recent phones and laptops come with it. But the MU-MIMO routers are still in this awkward phase where they're mostly launched a few years ago back when this was some edgy new 1% technology, and their prices still reflect that. God knows when they'll do a refresh…

      • I typically go cheap and buy previous gen tech anyways…. so this will work right?

        • Yes, it will work. Last leg is over existing copper so a VDSL modem is required.
