Crumpler Dry Red Compact 13 Inch Laptop Bag - Reduced Further to $75 Delivered

1270

Hi folks,

Crumpler still has its ongoing sale but some styles have been reduced further.

Sometimes first come, first serve backfires on me. I bought this just last week on sale for $95 and has reduced further to $75. RRP is $195. I already have it and its a great bag.

You can also use cashback rewards for further savings.

Also I noticed the barney rustle medium has reduced further as well.

Damn it so did I! Nice find

  • Was so close to buying at $95.. Now trying to resist this price!!!

    • +1

I'm waiting for $65. Its a no brainer at $75 if you need a bag, but sadly I don't.

Edit. well its another $6 off with CR, taking it to $69.

    • It's still $95 from this link https://www.crumpler.com/au/dry-red-no-5-compact/colour-blac… (black only).
The link posted by OP has 3 different colours to choose from.

EDIT: $95 link no longer valid.

  • +1

Perfect timing, my current laptop backpack is falling apart.

  • -1

Reckon it can hold a 15" laptop?

    • Don't think so. I got the non-compact one and that barely fits a 15". I can't imagine a 15" would fit in a smaller version of this backpack.

      • What about fitting in the main zipped compartment? I have a Lenovo T560 which is 15.6" and I'm looking for a backpack that I can carry it with.

        Love Crumpler quality though.

        • +3

I guess you can fit it there with the compact backpack but then you probably can't put much else in the main compartment and the laptop compartment would be wasted.

Why don't you two consider getting the non-compact one? It was made for 15" laptops and it's currently $150 from Myer if you use a coupon code (ANNIVERSARY20 I believe). Link here.

        • +2

@ChillBro: Or if you don't mind the Khaki colour then Catch of the Day eBay have the 15" version for $109.98 delivered using the COUNT20 coupon.

          @satcher:
I quite like that colour, makes you look like a ninja turtle…lol

          @KupoHo:

I quite like that colour, makes you look like a ninja turtle…lol

          Bonus!

        • @ChillBro: Thanks. I am only looking at this stage. I've been using a blue Hershel "Settlement" backpack for 2 years now and am looking for a new one. The side zip laptop compartment seems like a good idea but the reviews showed otherwise.

      • i think it can fit a 15 macbook pro

    • It says it fits 13" so nah. Too expensive to gamble

    • It's 13 inch laptop bag. The big brother is $100 more.

      Edit:
You can try a laptop bag

      • Feeling your pain. Brought the barney rustle about 3 weeks back and now its down to $65.

Do you have one of these?

        https://www.crumpler.com/au/dry-red-no-11/taggd/modalListVie…

        Down from $475 to $140.

Do you know what the wheels are like or should I be considering something else?

        • Got one of the dry red check in luggage. Got it a few years ago for $200. Definitely roomy and lots of space. Sturdy as well.

Brought it to at least 5 overseas trips with no issues. Even dragged it around in gravel, and got wet in a rickety boat travelling to island resorts. Still good as new.

Just a note although never happened to me, I spoke to a crumpler store manager, she said fabric rips in the luggage isn't covered by its lifetime warranty. Can't confirm. Only wheels, clips and zippers are covered.

But hard case luggage if it gets cracked, it's covered for replacement.

    • Definitely cannot. I bought this to carry my work laptop which is a Lenovo x240. It's alright a tight fit

  • +7

Never had a crumpler before, what's the big deal about these?

    • +2

They are just great bags!! Really good quality, functional and lifetime warranty :)

I bought some stuff the other day, now stuff are even cheaper, I bought more stuff lol

Lucky I bought this bag via The Iconic for $75 or I'd be kicking myself buying it at $95!

      • Yup I'm kicking myself already. Lol

        • Did you at least use cash rewards? Lol can always buy another and return with old receipt.

At least you are sharing the great deal! :)

I just ordered the Dry Red 11 even though I really don't need another large suitcase….??? But such a great price! :/

        • +1

@KupoHo: yes I got my cash rewards tracking. I have that small consolation and having it for a week than other people.

And sharing the great deal with everyone.

        • +1

          @harkoliar:

Use a price protection credit card next time! :D

    • +1

      Build quality and lifetime warranty.

    • +1

Had a shoulder bag for about 15 years and it's still going strong. Used it pretty much daily for most of that time too. Now have ,2 with another one ordered today just… because. Thanks, OP!

      • Do you find the lack of front pockets on the messenger frustrating?

Looking for a good daily commute bag. The thing stopping me purchasing a crumpler is the lack of front pockets. Having to unclip then pull the flap secured with Velcro back seems tedious when you need to put your phone away quickly or your myki during a commute.

        • I actually like the security aspect of having a zip under the flap, and I usually keep my phone + wallet in my trouser pockets anyway.

    • +2

most people have said it already - but the build quality is amazing and they have a proper lifetime warranty.

i bought the backpack above about 4 years ago (the 15" sized one) and i use it constantly and it's been amazing.
i got a matching dry red ~70L suitcase with it, i had a zip snapped off it in sydney airport a few months back & dropped it off at their head office for repair a few weeks back, they could fix the zip but they actually found issues with some stitching they weren't happy with so they replaced the whole thing for free.

unfortunately there was no direct like-for-like swap available so i ended up with a large spring peeper (wheely duffle bag rather than 'suitcase') but after bringing 30kgs worth of whisky home from japan in the last 24hrs i can confirm the new one is just as good as my old case! :D

fwiw the new case retails for ~$465, i think i bought the original case for $300ish during one of their sales. it was an exceptionally trustworthy bag that saw some serious abuse (think of 35kgs of luggage being towed around the cobbled streets of Venice, Florence & Rome) without a hitch…

can't possibly recommend the crumpler stuff enough!

  • I can't see a pix of the inside capacity of this compact one. I'd like to see the inside space OR is there no internal space for a jacket etc?

    • Check out their product video?

      • Was just going to suggest the same. The videos are great but wish there was talking lol maybe the bags speak for themselves?

    • +2

Personally don't think there is enough space if your jacket is thick like a fluffy down jacket. If it's a normal thin jacket it should be fine.

I have an umbrella, water bottle, lunchbox and some papers in the main compartment.

Smaller stuff on front pocket and laptop in the laptop compartment.

Edit: maybe a sample of my bag would help. Only the main compartment.

      • Yes, it won't be big enough, you're right. Like your matching Crumpler umbrella! Thanks for posting.

      • Such a well organised bag!! Omg is that umbrella worth the price tag?? So tempted….

        • Only if you like blunt design :).

I have both euroschirm light trek and Crumpler blunt. Blunt feels lighter and sturdier but euroschrum feels like it has a wider diameter.

        • @harkoliar:
I had no clue about Blunt before seeing it on the Crumpler site. Does it actually withstand the wind?

        • +1

          @KupoHo:

Yes for wind. It was designed to withstand strong winds. its actually a NZ company that just partnered up with crumpler.

Check some online reviews, they are pretty helpful to help you decide.

  • looked at their site or two, is there a video there on this link above that I missed?

    • Apologies just realised they don't have a video up for this bag. The dimensions is 18cm in depth so I think you would be able to fit one but maybe not a thick one as it is quite "compact" lol maybe OP can give you a better indication.

  • Should I risk buying this for a 13.5 inch laptop?

  • I bought a Crumpler Squid a few months ago for about $30. Definitely worth the $25 they have it for this sale: https://www.crumpler.com/au/squid-summersale/.

    • but shipping starts at $7, which makes it not as attractive.

      • Agreed. Unless you can get it from one of their stores.

  • Was semi-keen so looked into some reviews… http://www.productreview.com.au/p/crumpler-dry-red-no-5.html…

    Not a glowing response.
I don't fancy my laptop falling out the side if that's something that's easily done/forgotten…

    • Yes that worries me as well. Fortunately i barely bring my laptop to work.

    • Good point, I forget to zip my backpack all the time

  • +1

So just curious … would anyone recommend this to be used for bike commuting? Worried about it lacking any air ventilation?

    • No, i would recommend place daypack bag because it has a waist clip. It's alot safer and keeps things in place plus has space for hydration bladder. No dedicated compartment for laptop though.

      https://www.crumpler.com/au/lla-action-day-pack/

      • Thanks for the suggestion … Just looking if there's a bag out there that is a commuting backpack.. and can also fit a 13" MacBook Pro..

        • Look into the high Sierra bags on bag world. I got one on there for about $50 delivered. Ventilated back, waist strap, dedicated laptop sleeve, heaps of extra storage, built in rain cover.

    • When I worked in the city, whenever I saw a cyclist, I would look at their messenger bags. Always seems to be a Crumpler! I think it might be the Barney Rustle one listed in the OP.

    • I am using the LLA 3day pack, works perfectly for bike commuting. Much larger bag, but has good straps

  • +1

We are looking for a new large suitcase and think I found a bargain. I just bought the 85L luggage Dry Red No 11. It is down to $140 from $475! 8% cashrewards as well, so comes to $128.80. Seems like an amazing deal, so hopefully it won't disappoint.

    • I bought it too…from the reviews some love it n some hate it lol I have the cabin luggage size and love it so hoping the same for the big one! Only annoying thing is I think you have to supply your own locks?

      • Yup you have to.

    • I would buy it if black, red it won't last one trip to Europe

      • Easier to spot on the luggage carousel! That was my thinking lol

        • My thoughts too. I do love black though, but pretty much every other suitcase will be black so after a long flight chances are that you have trouble spotting your suitcase.

        • @trippy:
Let's hope we aren't on the same flight lol 😂

        • +1

@KupoHo: You both should have gone with this instead. You'd easily be able to tell which was yours from the colour of your underwear.

        • @eug:
LOL!I remember when that came out I thought it was so cool!

Have been eyeing the vis-a-vis range but the reviews aren't that great as lots of people have had damage to them so will have to stick to the Dry Red range for now…

      • Theft?

    • Thanks I also bought the Dry Red No 11. :)

  • OMG thank you thank you! Love Crumpler product but not their prices :P
Just bought the Dry Red No 11 (checkin) No 3 (cabin) and this No 5 Compact! Work out about 305 after cash rewards. Woohoo nice price.

On the hunt for a 15" laptop bag. Someone post a bargain!

  • Been out of stock two hours ago

    • The other colours are still available.

  • I got a dry red no 11 for the missus too - amazing price. Much easier to spot on the baggage carousel.

Devo I missed out on the LLA pack

Also would love a medium barney rustle, but find the red & gold/multicolour too bright for me.

Anyone know if they refresh stocks as part of this ongoing sale?

    • +3

      Isit the LLA 3day pack?

      http://www.theiconic.com.au/lla-3-day-pack-410065.html ?

If you use one of those codes from here

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/30093

it takes it down to $100

(mentioned by JBOT in the other Crumpler thread)

I click notify by email for the travel case and I just got notification today that it's back in stock…so I guess they do? Or could have been a return or something?

There are so many Crumpler sales at the moment, I would check out Rushfaster, Myer, The Iconic, Catch of the Day and Crumpler to make sure you are getting the best price :)

      • Cheers mate! Yeah the 3 day pack! Red is a bit bright though =/

I got one as a gift and love it, was thinking about getting one for my brother.

Ill click onto the notify me option

        • Aw maybe your bro will like red? Well, good luck. I hope it comes back in stock for u :)

  • Anyone got a free shipping code for someone who only want to buy a Squid bag?

  • The Black Color is sold out. Stock available in Navy and Green.

  • +4

Can still get the Black @ The Iconic for the Same Price with the Coupon: 20ACTklY9MW

    • not anymore :(

Bought the blue one though. I also have the Red 5 in black, fantastic backpack.

      • +1

I must be the only one that likes the blue one? Lol black is still available for $75 from rushfaster…shipping is $10 but that's capped if you are buying more stuff. Or find something cheap with free shipping and your order is free!

  • +1

What makes this bag worth its price? How does it compare to a high sierra? Seems quite pricey even for its claimed quality.

    • +1

Great price considering the rrp…I have the first gen one which is a bit narrower but functions the same (think I purchased for $150). I just love all the pockets which keep you organised (especially if you are disorganised like me lol). Only downside is it doesn't hold as much as my Antler hardcase carry on but I do pack for a toddler as well.

  • Pulled the trigger using cash rewards but why such a delay on the cash reward?
    "Estimated approval: 15 Sep 2017"

    • Probably so you can't buy something, get the cashback, then return the item.

  • no lifetime warranty compared to the crumpler but I recently bought this Samsonite bag and I'm very pleased with it

    https://www.bagworld.com.au/shop/detail/samsonite-city-groov…

I purchased it from their ebay store $59 and used an Auspost voucher to reduce it to $49 delivered.

  • Thanks for the iconic code guys, bit the bullet and bought this:

    http://www.theiconic.com.au/lla-3-day-pack-410065.html

$100 delivered, can't complain…perfect bag for this Melbourne winter :)

    • I have the bag, it is absolutely brilliant (and the red looks great). But sounds like you want to use it as a daily pack. Not sure it's right for that, it is absolutely huge and spacious inside. Perfect as cabin baggage for a weekend away.

Then again, free returns so …

      • I love my lla also

How did you get it for $100? Is there a coupon code? Prefer non red though =/

    • I did the exact same. 10% cashback helps bring it down further too

  • +5

There were 5 black ones available at the Crumpler store in Brisbane City. There might be more at the back. They're marked $75.

I ended up getting a Pork Chop Fran for $120, down from $299 instead. It's a limited-edition model that's only sold in Crumpler stores… they don't even have it on their website.

It's basically an upgraded Dry Red Compact. It doesn't have a zip for the outside compartment to allow quick access to 2 of the pockets (the other 2 pockets are individually zipped), metal clasps, two more pockets in the main compartment, a taller tablet storage area with a strap, an extra storage area on the left side "for a power bank", leather accents, a strap/back padding thing that lets you slide the bag onto a roller bag handle, and better fabric.

    Some photos:
    1

    3

    • Wow that would be great for a day bag. Less scary than the 5.11 MOAB 6 I've been using.

      • Thanks for the tip. Got a Red 5 compact direct from the store and still had 4 of that and 8 or so Pork Chops. Decided on the regular Red5 compact as I didn't like how open the front sleeve / compartment section is at the front on the Pork Chop. Especially if it rains.

        • Yeah, I like the metal zips and more rugged fabric on the Pork Chop, but I didn't like how open that back flap was. I was afraid any books or papers would fall out if the bag was held the wrong way. They should've kept the flap fully zipped like the No 5, IMO.
