As someone who fishes regularly, I'd strongly advise against getting this. Whilst it appeals as convenient, you'd best invest in telescopic rod or 3+ piece rood and a decent spinning reel. These enclosed reels are kinda awful, and being cheap i'd expect even less. The fact that you can pick up a cheap albiet plastic shimano reel that will still outlast and outperform this reel in virtually every aspect; casting and retrieval. sorry if i sound overly negative, it's just there are much better options, even at this 30-40 dollar price range.

you don't need the best gear to enjoy fishing, but quality does make a huge difference to the experience

      This +1.

    • I'm preparing early for my retirement kit and want to get a decent rod for ocean fishing as i like the idea of ending my days getting swept off rocks as folk tend to do around here in Sydney.

Any chance you can suggest a specific rod for me? And maybe a life vest as well…

I'm currently running a 10 foot wilson blue steel surf combo. It's got a shimano sahara 4000 on it with braid line. Amazing for bait/livebait fishing surf fishing, estuary fishing, and rock fishing. It's relatively light, and very durable. just not too good for lures or plastics, metal slugs maybe.

Pulled sharks, trevally and bream and whiting on it.

whilst it's not an expensive combo, it gets a lot of use. However, with a wash after ever session and the reel not ever getting doused in salt water it's lasted me 2+ years and is still going.

As for rock fishing and life vests, i'm not to familiar, but i'd go with something inflatable, they are comfortable and less intrusive (just more expensive)

BTW bought a $100 item from these guys a month or so ago and it actually arrived, but only after a bunch of junk email. I think it's run by TomTop (PayPal payment went to 'TOMTOPTECHN').
