  • Hi Rep,
How long are postage times and does the product come with a GST tax invoice?

this box appears to be cheaper here posted from overseas.

    • Aussie stock and warranty. You can request Tax invoice if you need it.

  • Thanks, was waiting for one to be $100, to use this voucher

  • Edit: found my answer in the post.

already have chromecast 2, will there be any use for a xiaomi mi box?

    • Keen to know as well.

    • Yes,this runs any android apps, chromecast dont.

I don't think you're missing out on anything important that you're not able to do with the Chromecast. It's more about how you use it than what you use it for.

The main benefit would be that it's a stand alone box with a remote, so you don't need your phone on hand and people without a phone can use it.

Another one might be that you can take it somewhere without the internet and it will still play local files (from a usb drive). The Chromecast always needs the internet.

    • Got chromecast 2 and Mi Box 3, basically this is a Chromecast 2 + Android Box (I'm using KODI to play files on my NAS).

    • If you want to do more than just watch stuff, then yes. Quite a few games are supported on Android TV. Not to mention emulators, if you're into that kind of thing.

    • This runs in 4K natively.

  • Chromecast and this are different things. Chromecast lets you cast from your computer, mobile etc. where as this will do everything what a Chromecast does and you can do a lot of other things, such as run Kodi, Plex etc. You don't need to cast on this it can be run independently.

Can this be used to run Australian Android apps for Netflix, iView, SBS etc?

It mentions EU power supply. Does this come with an Australian power supply.?

    • +1

Xiaomi does not have Australia power adaptor. For safety reason, we do not provide cheap travel adaptor.

  • What the heck, have a wdtvlive but purchased anyway.

    • +1

I used to have a WDTV, the mibox is way better in my opinion. You won't regret the purchase

      • +2

I agree, also had the WDTV Live but just use this now.

  • Does this suck less than a Fire TV 2 for Kodi? Mine is a neverending source of hassles.

    • These are awesome

It doesn't have automatic refresh rate switching (I believe, yet…). Most people seem reasonably happy with it. It seems to be about as good as it's going to get with Android. Really, if all you want is Kodi you'd be better off with a generic s905x box that you can put LibreElec on.

      • yeah. i think i might be done with android. I thought it would be less hassle than replacing my htpc, but it's just been a headache I don't need.

        • The Mi is definitely low-hassle, including for Kodi.

Most people do not know or care about automatic refresh rate switching.
But even installing LibreElec on a generic s905x box is simpler than configuring a Windows-based HTPC.

  • Wouldn't a US power adapter be better for Australian use?

  • Hmmm tempted to buy this to supplement my full HTPC that I use for gaming as well. Since the Windows 10 update my remote that I used for years on Windows 7 had a lot of buttons that stopped working and has been a bit of a pain with the usual Windows quirks.

Have a Nvidia shield TV in my room so if this can run Kodi half as well as that might have to take the plunge with it.

  • Whats the different between this Xiaomi Mi Box Global Version
AND the Xiaomi Mi Box 3 Enhanced Version ?

For about $10.0 more the Enhanced version looks like it has better spec.

    • +2

I believe the global version is the only one with Android TV?

  • Ok, mine is due for delivery today.

    • Did it arrive and are currently too busy playing with it to report back? Orrrrr still at work

Got it in my hot hands right now, just having some dinner and will be having a play in a few mins :)
