damn it, I7-7700 is cheap, just bought one for $400, :-(

    • Andddd it's gone Someone bought 10 of the I7 7700.

      • woooooot? that's crazy, but understandable because it is the cheapest I've ever seen.
feels like I just lost $$$$$$

  • +2

Bought a ryzen 1700 at $400 and feel a little torn everytime I see a 7700k at the same price

    • +29

Don't feel too torn, you did a great thing by supporting competition.

    • +1

I just did the exact same thing yesterday :( .
Still a good cpu though. Don't forget we have the extra 4 cores :)
Some don't need more than 4 but I run lots of vm's in the background so for me the more cores the better.

I was going to upgrade to the Ryzen 1700, but man that 7700k deal is tempting. Not sure if I want more cores or 5 - 10% gaming performance.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's out of stock. Ryzen it is.

      • Why Zen?

        • From what I've researched, buy 7700k if you are a gamer and look for VR experience, otherwise, Ryzen is better in everything else.

  • f**k that is really cheap.. i thought i got a good deal at 415 for 7700k

  • +1

Anyone know of any good motherboards (for this socket) on special?

  • Couldn't hold out any longer for the 7700k. Was gonna wait for the new series X but looks like a let down

  • Damn I just bought this 7700k the other day with the other 15% code for $292.3 USD ($385). Could've gotten Australian warranty for $10 more.

  • Very cheap.

  • Damn I paid $298 for the 7600 last week. Only fitted it in two days ago!

  • Snapped up a 7700k at this price. Will see how it compares to my Ryzen build.

  • wow just checked my cpu against the 7700k, my 4770k has aged quite well considering I bought it over 4 years ago

    • +4

I think it's more that Intel really have been phoning it in for the last few years with no competition.

    • I am currently on the 4790K and was thinking the same thing too. Its currently clocked at 4.4GHz all cores and even slightly undervolted too. I guess wait for Coffee Lake then?

  • +3

    Ryzen. No regrets.

Intel has a slightly better microarchitecture (Ryzen 100 vs Kaby Lake) and slightly better lithography (16-14nm vs 14+nm).
With that said, the heat/performance should be only 15%.

So a R5 1400 should be equivalent to the i7-5775R.
      The R5 1500X to the i7-7700K (with 15% differential).
      The R5 1600 to the i7-7800K (with 15% differential).
      The R7 1700 to the i7-7900K (with 15% differential).

Therefore, paying 20% more for the "Intel Tax" is acceptable, but not anymore.
      A) If we follow the market based on Intel's prices….
      …that means to compete against the ~AU$400 i7-7700K, the R5 1500X should be priced between $328 - $351.
If the Ryzen is priced below $328 get that automatically, if its priced above $351 get the Intel automatically.

      B) If we follow the market based on AMD's prices…
      …that means to compete against the ~AU$290 R5-1500X, the i7-7700k should be priced between $322 - $363.
If the Intel is priced below $322 get that automatically, if its priced above $363 get the Ryzen automatically.

Since in both scenario's A and B, the R5-1500X is cheaper than the proposed price delta, people should be automatically buying Ryzen instead of Intel.
We can repeat this test for the other listed models (1400, 1600, and 1700) but the outcome is the same: automatically buy Ryzen instead.
I mean for the price of just the (AU$350) X99 motherboard and (AU$1,500) Core i7-6900K/7900X you can get:
      - $400 Ryzen R7-1700 CPU
      - $200 AM4 X370 Motherboard
      - $500 GTX1070 GPU
      - $300 4x 16GB (64GB) DDR4 (2133-3200) RAM
      - $300 Crucial MX300 M.2 1TB SSD
      - $130 3.5in 7200 3TB HDD
      - $20 Official OEM Windows 10 Pro
      …that's a complete system only missing a ($100) case and ($50) peripherals!

      • +2

Where are you getting 64gb of 3200 RAM for $300?!

        • More importantly, why do they need that much RAM in a desktop!?

        • @Lorindor:
I suspect it probably should have read 4 x 8GB (32GB), which would be able right for that price.

        • @Gaz1:

Even then, I'm curious to know who really requires that much RAM and what they are using for.

  • damn i paid 470 at the last 20% off sale for the 7700k. Got it to 5ghz with good temps though.

    • What cooler are you running?

      • h100i v2

      • I got mine to 4.9 with a 212x, good temps, no pump whine

  • Thanks OP just bought 1!

  • +6

Nope… Ryzen has my heart now.

  • Damn out of i7-7700K’s already :(

  • Damn it, couldn't do my 7700K vs 1700 reviews fast enough, missed out. Hoping someone finds an equivalent deal!

  • Could anyone recommend a standard motherboard for the intel i57400 please? Just something simple for everyday office use, transfering of photos from phones to PC, no gaming or video.

    Thanks

    • I think any motherboard with H270 or even H170 (if you could find one). would suffice.

      • If you dont get the 270 series motherboard you will have to update the bios of the motherboard unless they come preupdated. So make sure you do check with the shop you buy it from that the motherboard will support the cpu and whether it comes with the update for this support.

  • Thanks Dave and Hus :) Will keep that in mind. Most likely gonna go with 270 series.

  • Wish there was some more of the i7-7700K
