Have an upvote just for posting the full information in a well formatted layout

    • where is the upvote?

      • +1

        There :)
I dunno what I upvoted instead???

  • I like asus phones bought an ASUS selfie just over $200 delivered in a week from alibaba 3/32 5.5 FHD dual 13mp cameras front laser focus fast to focus and takes nice shots. Only thing is they have to much Asus software and a lot cant be uninstalled.

  • I have this phone and can confirm great product for its specs and at this price point, it's a steal.

Tempting to buy another.. Why? I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Edit: If anybody has any questions, I'm more than happy to answer them where I can.

    • Works with Android Auto?

      • Sorry not sure, never tried that app.

    • What's the bloatware like? Anything useful, and can you uninstall the useless ones?

  • How's the battery life on this phone

    • Have not timed it but have had no issues at all with battery life.

    • Battery life is extremely good. From heavy usage I usually get ~2-3 days between charges.

    • Despite the small battery the battery life should be pretty good considering the phone uses the Snapdragon 625 is an extremely battery efficient CPU

  • Question to any phone geeks out there… Zenfone 2 4gb or this? (Zenfone 3 3gb). I hate lag and will give up all new features in favour of more RAM and a snappier user experience.

    • +1

You might get a slight performance boost in terms of multitasking with 4GB RAM, however you've got an overall better chipset(better battery life, GPU, CPU) negating any of that. The Intel CPUs are no longer supported by Intel too so you'll probably not likely get any updates plus any that you did would be community ones à but because of the different architecture development is less common and whatever is there is quite hit and miss. Zenfone 3 would likely serve you better just off raw specs.

    • I hate lag and will give up all new features in favour of more RAM and a snappier user experience.

You just answered your own question.

    • +1

Thanks chriaj2689, makes sense. It's to replace my wife's Samsung Note 4 so it should do the job.

  • Is this dual 3G/4G?
Since 2G is being turned off will this still work as dual sim?

    • +1

Same wondering if sim2 is 2g or 3g/4g
Cant find info on gsm arena:

      http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8197&idPhone2=…

Also looks like if you go 64gb version instead of 32gb then you get 4gb ram instead of 3gm ram.

But dont like the sharing of sim slot 2 with microsd. Prefer a dedicated microsd slot.

Reasons to go the cheap Oppo.

But currently using a Asus Zenfone 2 and love it, would really like to continue use zenfone.

      • +1

3G. Doesn't matter which slot you put in though, if you turn on 4G for sim 1 then sim 2 will be 3G, if you turn on 4G for sim 2 then sim 1 is 3G.

        • Is that from experience with this model? Have you got one or know someone who has one to confirm?

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:
I used to own one, sold it not long ago.

Tried Optus + Optus and Optus + Telstra and both times worked fine. This was after Telstra turned off 2G as well.

        • @clse945111:

Great to hear that, thanks. Would you get this, or hang out for a Redmi Note 4 B28 edition for similar price?

  • This or the Oppo at Big W for $200?

    Thanks.

    • Oppo doesn't work with Android Auto, so I wouldn't touch it.

      • What spec you need on phone for Android auto to work?

        • +1

Any Android above 5.0 but ALSO hasn't been ruined by terrible modifications by the OEM which break basic functionality.

  • Best phone I've owned.
    Camera good - has OIS.
Battery - not bad (nowhere near my daughter's Mi4 4100mAh).
    Price - great!
    NFC - None.
4G - 4G+ most of the time on Optus
ZenUI - good - better than MiUI and Samsungs UI IMO.

Bought mine second hand and it had Nougat installed

    • Do you think Nougat is official ZenUI OTA here for Australia?

      • +2

Doesn't matter where you are. You'll likely get the Taiwan/International version through this deal and that means any OTA pushed to that version you'll be able to get. At the moment it is officially on Nougat and is receiving updates very regularly.

One good thing about Asus phones is that even for any reason that you don't receive OTAs you can download them straight from their website to manually update.

  • can anyone comment on the front facing camera for video call/video?

  • +1

ATTENTION for those who purchased this phone.

You need a case for it straight away. The phone is slippery as fc*k and it will manage to hit the floor.

    You've been warned!

    • Case recommendation?

      • You're not likely to find a wide range to choose from as they're not popular, so whatever you can find.

Something like the one's below as a minimum:

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Genuine-Nillkin-Matte-Hard-Case-C…

      • +1

The Nillkin clear silicon case is a great choice as it not only protects the phone but wraps "flush" to the protuding camera allowing the phone to lay flat.

Also, I recommend a tempered glass screen protector as they are stronger and provide a smooth non-stick feel.

        • Can you get the newer curved ( made for curved 2.5D glass screens ) glass screen protectors for these?

Came really close to buying this or a Moto G4 Plus 3G/32GB for $260 delivered from a Aussy ebay seller yesterday, but ended up watching reviews and stalling on both.

Really want a Redmi Note 4 Kate Edition and trying to wait for that release lol.

        • Sorry not sure. The screen protector I have doesn't cover the entire screen or quite seal flush due to the tapered edge, but remains in place just fine.

P.S I did purchase the protector specific to this model.

        • @jameso:

Thanks for reply. Does the protector sit completely flat on screen without edges ( left and right ) not touching the glass? Have had two tempered glass flat screen protectors do this ( on a LG Nexus 4 and a ZTE V2 Lite/Optus Blitz ) and that really annoys me to look at ( works ok though, just a look thing ).

On the other hand, I have installed two newer curved glass screen protectors on two different phones with mixed success ( or lack off ). One fits and works well on a Sony XA, looks great but feels a little hollow to touch due to the slightly raised curved edges. The other one ( two more as first one from China seller on ebay did not have enough glue/silicon in middle to hold ) for a LG K10 and looks great but feels really hollow in the middle ( maybe due to larger wider 5.2" screen ) and even makes the touchscreen a lot less sensitive with much more pressure needed to apply to register the screen touch properly.

When I get home from work I will take a pic of my phone and post a link so you may judge for yourself.

I will also post eBay links on the case and screen protector.

        • @jameso: Did you find any decent case/screen protectors on ebay?

        • hi railspider and ozhunter68,

ozhunter68: My apologies but I was unable to take a decent pic due to lighting and reflection, but if you refer to the link below and look at their pics, the blue outline of the screen protector is actual representation of how it appears on the phone.

railspider: As per your request, please refer below (not from same seller I purchased mine from, but appears 99.999% the same).

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nillkin-9H-Hardness-Tempered-Glas…

          and the case..

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nillkin-Nature-Thin-Soft-TPU-Clea…

      • Any case.

I broke this phone after just 2 days. How ? I left it on the bonnet of the car, as I always did with all of my phones. 20 seconds later, on the ground.

Within a month, I managed to drop this phone about 10 - 15 times. It broke completely and now does not work due to water damage I believe or just had enough.

Worked fine whilst cracked. Good phone.
