Hi Team, pretty good price for the hardware. With the current GPU mining craze you'd be hard pressed to match these specs with a self build. Enjoy!

+4% cashback at cash rewards bringing this to $1679.04 - thanks Roguewolf

    so tempted

  • This Dell system is a bit of an overkill for me. A Dell system with an i5-7400 or a similar i5 CPU and without a GPU or a cheaper GPU would have been perfect would have been ideal for my needs since I can then divert funds to upgrade to Windows Pro and install MS Office.
Talking of desktop deals, has anyone used makemypc.com.au site to buy a desktop computer system? This probably belongs to discussion forum but they do seem to provide desktop systems at good prices but I haven't seen many reviews lately. Furthermore, motherboard details are missing when you try to custom built a system.
Nevertheless, an i5-7400 specification system with Win 10 Pro and MS Office Pro but without GPU and similar specifications to this i7 Dell system comes at about $1400.

Check out my comment here. i5 7600, 16GB RAM (you could probably stick with the base 8 depending on requirements), RX 460, and a SSD+HDD with Windows 10 which would put you under $1000 after the 20% off at the moment. Ugly case though :/.

      • Thanks for the reply. It would be over $1000 as a 240 GB SSD would cost over $150 and Windows 10 Pro would cost over or about $200 but it would still be a good price.
However, this system is not complete/pre-built and I would either have to add the components myself or have to add $125 for pc byte to install them for me. The latter approach will bring the system to $1200+ if not $1300 which is good as it only leaves to factor the cost for MS Office installation.
My preference would be for a complete/pre-built desktop system since there's a greater chance of everything working fine and avoid unnecessary disputes if something does go wrong.

The SSD is ~$60 on top of the 120GB option included in the build. I was under the impression that it's all built by them- they'll add the extra "add on" components. Very unusual.

    • since I can then divert funds to upgrade to Windows Pro and install MS Office.

Any particular reason that you require Pro over the home edition?

      • There is no particular reason apart from the fact I have read that if you can afford to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro then it would be better. However, if people in this forum think Win 10 Home version should do, then I'll save my money and stick with WIN 10 Home.

Computer system will be mainly used for email, web browsing, some photo editing, occasional video editing, very occasionally for games like CIV V and VI, and very often for MS word and excel.

The only real reason for needing Pro (outside of enterprise type usage) would be bitlocker encryption built into Windows. Other than that, there are no limits, performance wise, imposed by home over Pro.

There is no immediate reason that I can think of that you should go with the Pro edition, especially if you aren't aware of the differences.

        • Thanks donnot and cdestratis for your replies.
It looks as though a decent system based on the i5 7th Gen CPU can be had for about $1000-$1100 from PC Byte when shipping costs are included with only the MS Office to be added (cost of 240 GB SSD needs to be added because the advertised system does not have the SSD + HDD combination. I hope that does not mean I have to change the motherboard as well).
I will be changing the case though because I agree the standard case is not to my liking either (I will be going for the Cool Master which looks good and it is functional).

Looks like could be cheaper on the eBay store with the 20% off code and cashrewards.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-XPS-8920-Tower-Desktop-7th-G…

    • Yep looks like it. It was $2299 in the eBay store when I posted the deal

      • I think it's $22 cheaper through eBay deal.

        Good find.

Could be an error in the ebay listing but the Item Specifics state:

      "16GB Single Channel DDR4 2133MHz (16GBx1)"

Whereas the website lists the RAM as "16GB Dual Channel DDR4 2400MHz (8GBx2)"

edit: actually the MPN (A210395AU) seems to match up on both sites so it must be a mistake.

It was an error in the listing. I purchased it yesterday and they confirmed it is dual channel 2x8gb. Looks like they ended the listing last night or this morning and re-listed it for a little more $$

  • THought long and hard…. finally bought it!
Thanks OP. Can't wait getting it

  • Mine just got delivered. I'm putting 32GB RAM in so guess I'll try and sell the 16GB that came with it

  • Anyone having purchase guilt's, please pm me if you want to offload. thanks
