      lol no chance

    • haha you should be a comedian

    • +5

LOL naive naive little boy haha

    • They've already admitted to testing Australia's internet connection. You seriously think you'll beat them all?

    • oh poor soul. I hope COTD doesn't break your heart on Tuesday

      • COTD Day sales, while quite good. I think are a bit missleading, who knows if they even sell the ps3…last time they had a deal it just brang up that error page saying too many connections or what ever it was. Then 2 minutes of seeing that they were sold out?

        Like wtf? lol!

        • Personally I think having it in your cart and then having it sold out before you check out is an even more infuriating experience. Still, CoTD has taught us much and avoiding their big sales is one of them.

          • @chansthename: i will give any0ne 5 bux . if they get pass the checkout page with the ps3 :)

        • +1

They would definitely sell one at that price. They can easily make up a loss from that PS3 by the gains they'll get on all the other little items.

        • +1

Remember the Wiis? They sold like 2-5 for $299 ea at the time and then called it a MEGA sale. lol

  • does it have 3.41 firmware?

    • Its pretty much guaranteed to be under 3.41. Even the new 320gb models are coming out with 3.40.

I bought 2 120gb from EB Games for $350 each, and they were both on 3.30 from memory (CECH 2102A)

      • what's the difference of having different firmwares?

        • you can jailbreak the older firmware

        • ps3 jailbreak . teensy . its pretty good . i has it .

          offline 0nly . i sad

          • @Lexsus: ps3 jailbreak… it still doesn't sound right.

      • Did you get EB to price match?

        • Yep, I got a receipt for EB Games in Adelaide (Firle Plaza) and got them to match it in EB Games Perth (Dianella & Mirrabooka).

Dianella just called up the Adelaide store, then called his manager, and then gave it to me. I was pretty happy because that was the first store I tried! But Mirrabooka weren't going to do it at all, I had to talk the manager into it. Basically did the spiel "Sony centre started it, and then all major retailers followed suit, like David Jones, Toys R Us, JB, Good Guys, and its just to get rid of old stock before the new model comes out in a few weeks"

Then (on the phone), he just says ok, come pick it up. And when I went in, he didn't even ask to look at any receipts. SWEET!

      • And then you could just download the 3.41 firmware manually on your computer? Can you do that? =S

        • +1

Yes you can. I'm not going to post links though, use google. Put the update file on your USB stick (under folder structure PS3->UPDATE) and update.

          • @gavinshim: Ok fair enough thanks haha.

            I don't need it - I was just curious. I've got a PS3 with 3.41 at the moment =)

            • @illumination: And that's where you should stay for the moment (remember, you can't go backwards once you go to 3.42 or 3.50). I bought a 2nd PS3 purely for online, Call Of Duty Black Ops, can't wait!!!!

  • lol who would actually pay for extended warranty

    • Maybe not for ps3. I got extended for my x360

      • yehh i would get extended warranty for my x360 too

      • +1

3 Years RROD warranty seems fine to me.

    • i usually pay using visa gold card.
That gives an extra 1 year warranty via visa.
it works as i used it to get a canon digital camera repaired under visa ext warranty.

    • +2

I didn't but I should have. My PS3 laser died 1.4yrs after purchase.

      • The fact that it is out of warranty, does not necessarily mean Sony has no responsibility. You have a statutory warranty. If my PS3 died after 1.4 years I would have contacted the Office of Fair Trading if Sony claimed they had no responsibility.

        • -3

here we go again… I just don't understand why it's so hard for you people.. You bought a product knowingly it has 1 year warranty and you want extra 2 years warranty for 'free'? There is nothing to do with expectation. It's to do with cost! The fact that PS3 is priced as it is now, it is because Sony only costed it to be warrant it for 1 year! Otherwise Sony will 'build in' the 3 year warranty cost into the console price? Do you think that will be better? It's about choice, nothing to do with expectation.

          • @tae: Blah blah blah. And Why is it so hard for you to understand basic consumer rights in this country?

            • -1

@lazed: We can talk about all the consumer's right we wanted. That's buy or not buy? If it's really unfair to the customers, then ACCC should fixed the warranty for all the product. The manufacture did state clearly they only expect it to work for one year with the warranty term. If you really expect it to last. Then you pay for manufacture warranty? At the end of the day, if everyone is claiming statutory warranty. Do you think Manufacturer will simply swallow the cost and make better quality product? or build in the warranty cost in product cost?

              • @tae: Anyone who is selling goods (maybe just retail) in Australia, is doing so under the trade practices act, so this means you have a statutory warranty. This is basically the law. If you are unhappy with this either get the Act changed or do not sell the goods.

I would assume any good business would understand what the law is and would have already factored this into their price stucture.

                • @stanas: However, statutory warranty also takes into account your purchase price and cost of repair. For a PS3 at such a low margin profit to the shop, I doubt your Act can cover every repair that is needed, buddy.

    • Well I wish I got the extended warranty for my ps3. Got the YLOD after the last update (3.42 I think). Sony said it wasn't their issue and that I had to pay $250 to get it fixed. After a fair bit of cursing, I did a bit of research and found out about the refluxing method. I tried it and it actually worked for about 1 week. It died on the day that I had a party and was planning on playing sing star, etc. I then refluxed it again with a higher temp and it seems fine. It has been 3 weeks since the reflux and it has had no issues. I think it may be better to get an extended warranty for a gaming system.

Is this deal only available in-store? Couldn't find any way to purchase this deal at Drummoyne store from interstate. Really keen on this one, don't think there is any chance of picking one up at COTD.

    • Call them up and ask? Can't hurt.

    • Got it shipped to Victoria just now. Only a few left :P

      EDIT: shipping is around $30

  • Try them tomorrow….chhers.

  • thought it said PS3 for $69 =(

still wouldnt get it though =P (uh oh here come the negative mods)

  • I got one from the Sony shop in Perth on Monday. Came with 2.x firmware, can't remember the exact one but its hackable.

    • Was that a phat? AFAIK, Slim's came out well after the release of FW 3.0.

      • Na, was a skinny one. Its one of the 120gb models instead of the newer 160 or 320…
It definitely had 2.x firmware cause I put 3.15 and was wondering why I couldn't find the other OS option then remembered it was fat only. Oops. Now up to 3.41.

  • cheers for that

  • My local pawnbroker has 2 x brand-new in box 120GB for $400 incl a game of choice. I passed. Might'n be a bad deal?

    • thats a pretty good deal if they are brand new, where abouts are you? my local has the same sorta deal, he sells the 120gb ps3 with free choice of game for $200 all the time, he gets alot of people selling him the free ps3 with sony tv offers….all brand new aswell

      • where's ur local store !!! ps3 for 200 , i'd buy that

        • I think he's saying they had 2x PS3 that is $400 each with a game.
Otherwise that'd be too good of a deal.

          • @shadowfangz: Correct! Sorry for being unclear. 2 X PS3 BNIB @ 400 each (with a game).

  • Just bought one at Sony Central in Melbourne for $379. They've had a new batch arrive in the last few days too…

    COTD - PS3 for 199$ next tuesday? :D

    http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/

  • called EB Firle, the guy said everyone from internet takes advantages of buying cheap PS3 consoles, so he refused to sell at that price anymore….lol

    • Unlucky mate. I guess you gotta get in while the gettin's good!

  • i never have luck with EB firle adelaide, though they are the closest store, but they never price match anything since the beginning. So dishonest, Tea tree plaza EB sometimes services better.

  • Why do Aussies get shafted by Sony Australia's pricing? The new 160GB in the US has US$299 RRP. That's AU$330ish. Even less than this deal so many are salivating over.

The 320GB + move pack in the states is US$399. AU$440. Same pack here is AU$599 (albeit with an extra game).

Don't get me started on Apple products…

    • because Australia is not on the world map. It takes more efforts for the companies to send products to Australia from Asia.T.T

      • Actually, I might be wrong BUT I recall reading an article about Sony Australia's take on the PS3 pricing. It was pretty much: we can price as high as we want…people will buy it anyway. They might be right!

        • Ah, in that case you've pretty much answered your own question haha.

Which kinda sucks though, because, just as we are OzBargain and we want to save every cent possible, companies will obviously also try to sell for as much as they can. If they are doing well at that price, then I guess it's totally understandable. Just we lose out… oh well.

        • let's why i am so against sony, sony treats aussie customers like idiots.

          • @frozenkuku: But you can't really blame them if we are giving in and buying at high prices can we?

          • @frozenkuku: would surprise me if you dont against apple then…

      • But importing is cheaper…

  • My sister bought one. It seems that they are from the 2009 Sony TV Promotion and its surplus stock.
