2010 called, they want their joke back.

The cheapest 1080 at that site is only $110 more. It might be worth that extra overtime at work.

    i got a 1070 for $440 once

I just made $170 profit selling mine :D

      • Trying to ditch my 2 right now so I can grab a single 1080ti. Will see how it goes.

    • Amazon one? I got the same one. Stupid derp I sold it second hand 2 months later for $380 when upgrading to the Amazon $599 1080. A week later I'm mining and that 1070 was sorely missed :/

      • Is mining really worth it? I've looked into it but not sure.

the mining boom is over. look at BHP's share price and see that downward trend for the last 7 FY? the chinese are now looking at ways to partner with africa. they have a lot of untapped natural resources there.

        • @supnigs super skids:

Yer I thought using GPU's to dig up iron ore was a bit weird!

But seriously, curious to know what people's returns are with 1-2 gpus mining cryptocurrency

        • Define worth it - it's profitable if you have a reasonable idea of what you're doing. For most it's essentially a hobby that can make a small amount of loose change on the side. If you were capable of/inclined to mining as a serious enterprise you would likely already be heavily involved.

        • @airal3rt:

By worth it, I mean outside of having a dedicated setup, for someone running a couple of GPU's in an otherwise standard desktop, how much profit are you actually likely to make assuming the PC was running 24/7.

        • it's easy to work out - just take your gpu price and get a profit/day figure from nicehash.com. for at least a few months it's been around 80-100 day payback.

        • @combatant:
Mining ETH with a GTX 1070 is about 85-100USD a month at current prices then your looking at $20 per month extra in electricity.

        • @cowza:

And that's with one GPU? That's actually better than I thought if correct.

        • @cowza: that's a very variable figure if you're mining only eth and holding. effectively doing two things - mining and speculating on one crypto currency. the currency is anything but stable too. my spread is about 5:1 btc to eth.

        • @combatant:

Obviously it depends on which GPUs you are running and what you are mining - different GPUs have different hash rates for different cryptocurrencies. You may need to change currencies on a semi-regular basis and always be keeping tabs on https://whattomine.com/

As for how much profit, just knock up a basic spreadsheet with your configuration and alter according to what you're mining to get some reasonable-ISH projections.

        • @yanman:

You'd be nuts to mine and not be trading in some capacity. The market is so volatile it's a risk. Of course you could just withdraw to FIAT immediately, but I don't think that's where the real profit will be.

        • @MissKitty:why? trading and mining are separate. if you want to invest in or day-trade crypto you can just buy some with FIAT. mining is investment in hardware.

    • from where and what model?
