61

I'm sure this isn't the cheapest it has been but I believe this is the cheapest around
My 2TB just crapped out so I needed one urgently
I had officeworks price match to $202.35 http://imgur.com/gallery/OHy8H/comment/1068747415

I figured it was rare officeworks wasn't the lowest so some people might jump on it ($1 cheaper than OW at HN lol)
This is for my plex server if anyone is wondering :p

CHEAPER FROM AMAZON IF YOU WANT TO WAIT. I will be.

Tip to save money: Just hold down shift and delete on your files and choose "yes". Quicker, cheaper and easier than buying a Seagate.

    • yeah i've heard that. Willing to risk it seeing as its just tv shows and theyll be backed up elsewhere. Thanks mate

      • Backblaze run them in a raid configuration and chuck the dead drive, because the Seagates are a few dollars cheaper and it adds up when you buy thousands of units. Tell me how you plan to raid your portable drive please.

        • What should i get instead guys?

        • @science-teacher:

WD or Toshiba seem to be the most common other brands.

I've had good luck with the WD Elements drives but their have been reports of problems with the 4TB portables. 4TB desktops have been rock solid for me. In the last few years I've had a lot of Seagates die. 3 this year and only one of those with enough use that it's acceptable. WD 4TB elements desktop drives have been rock solid.

        • @syousef:
Hmm 4tb wd elements looks like $190 for 4tb, bit too much compared to the seagate for me
          I appreciate your help

        • @science-teacher:

You're welcome. It's your money. Only you can decide. Hope it works out for you.

        • Of course they run them in a RAID config. They're in a datacentre. They also run every other brand of drive in RAID configuration too and also throw those dead drives once they're done. What's your point?

        • @potplanty:

What's my point? My point is that if you buy a dinky little USB drive you can't take any of those precautions and if the drive dies, you better have a backup elsewhere or there goes your data, and either way you get burned for the money. Seagate warranty replacement sucks. They don't even give you a new drive. Just a refurb.

  • I've had my eye on this drive for a while, looking to get it when it's a bargain. Currently significantly cheaper to buy from Amazon - approx. AUD $162 shipped.

    • Wow, I might take mine back, havent opened it.
Any others i should be considering mate?

    • Might pull the trigger ay
      161.78 using my coles card

    • I'm liking the 5tb one for $196
Extra $30 for 1 more TB

How do you get officeworks to price match amazon?!

        • The guy was really nice. He had a think about it and after some convincing
          I printed out the invoice
He wanted to make sure delivery and aud were included. I said how about us and we google the conversion rate to save $10

        • No go with my local officeworks!

  • Are these drives shuckable though?

    • I think you mis-typed "chuckable" ducks hehe
