From my experience, it brings out the worst in some people. Greed, competitiveness and tempers are easy to bring out in a standard game.

What's wrong with being competitive?
Nothing at all providing the situation calls for it. Sure, it helps in a game of Monopoly but some people don't know where to draw the line and that can be overbearing and annoying for others. Especially when it becomes aggressive or malicious.
By the way, congrats on getting engaged. I really enjoyed reading your post/comments and happy to see that this site brings people together in bargains and in love!

I have a strange question for anyone that has bought Monopoly recently.
They changed the design years ago to a quadrant fold board with a split.Can anyone share if the current version still has this "split"? Or have they gone back to the standard fold-in-half type of the original?
I know it's strange, but the split thing looked ugly and I refused to buy it.
