  • You sure love Tefal.

Heh. Yeh I saw this thing when I was looking for the rice cooker and thought I'd see what it went for usually. And I remembered seeing it on the Tefal special offers page because I'd looked to see if there was any cashback on the rice cooker earlier.
Not something I'd buy but a good deal so I thought I'd post it. I've been lurking here buying stuff for years so I thought I'd contribute.

  • I want one!

  • Never realised there were so many different options of all in one's. This is a great comparison review. For $1000 this does seem like good value for Australia but it seems like that is the standard price elsewhere. It's a pity the review says that it's poor at grinding and milling as that's one if the main things that I do.

  • Are these things really worth buying?

I've got a HotMixPro, which is like a pro version of the Thermomix, and I use it a LOT.

      • I've been considering buying the wife one for ages. Maybe I'll take the plunge.

No point unless she wants one, and understands what they do. They're great, but they require something of a change of mindset when cooking with them.

depends if you are after a big discount or a useful appliance ….. i reckon not unless you like all your food prepared to old folks home consistency ….. i actually like chunks of things in my soup.

And this is why you shouldn't listen to people who don't have one or don't have a clue how to use it.

After all the cash backs from Tefal and hv and then splitting the payment across multiple amex cards I managed to get one for $740 last year. Machines are ok, but as others suggested it's a different mindset in cooking that's required. I've ended up using it more than my wife. I see it as a pot with an auto stirrer, chuck a bunch of ingredients in with cheap meat like chunks of chuck steak, forget about, and 2hrs later you have a nice stew or curry.
Would I buy it again? Nah probably not lol

  • Very interesting. Anyone familiar with Thermomixs comment on the performance? I love my TM31 and use it quite a lot, though not the way they suggest. It's strongest as a stirring heater and powerful blender. So powerful in fact it produces particle sizes akin to grinding. If this can do all that with a larger bowl, better attachments, and higher temperature range i'm sold.

Oh wow, this sounds awesome. 1g increments on the scales [edit oh.. they're not inbuilt.. oh well, free 1g scales]. That's a big improvement on the TM. I use a separate 1g-accuracy scale instead, and not just cos my TM's scales broke.

    • Looks like it can't grind like the TM, and still isn't strong enough to knead like a kenwood mixer
