Mine still shows as processing from the last deal a week ago, so I wouldn't plan on it arriving anytime soon…

I paid extra for Expedited Shipping and its still being processed as well… eta was meant to be by Friday at the latest. We shall see if I was postage scammed.

      • +2

Gearbest always postage scam. if you spend the little extra for shipping, they ship it at the same normal regular china mail. It's when you pay the proper express shipping ($50+) is when they send that.

        • Damn, lesson learnt :(

    • Same here.

My WDTV Live hub decided to have HDMI issues tonight so I'm pretty keen to get my order.

    • Same.

  • Is this the MDZ-16-AB model?

    • +1

From what I can tell from the pics, it does look like the international version. On the international Bluetooth version, the remote takes two AAA batteries, the Chinese version isn't Bluetooth and only needs one small watch battery.

However, the pics could be incorrect or they are using stock pics…

Hey thanks for replying, and pointing out the remote differences, the sellers on Ozbargain need to confirm model number or update model details before posting a deal.

The reason is,MI Box has 6 versions, some are cheaper than others, thus lots of confusion when buying as sellers don't usually reveal the model number, and the only one worth buying in Australia is the MDZ 16 AB model.

This web page explains it all https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/avoid-confusion-use-modeā€¦

According to the above web page:

MDZ 16 AB modeI is the ONLY MiBox that allows for 1080 and 4K(UHD) resolution when using NETFLIX. All other XIAOMI devices are limited to running NETFLIX at 480 resolution, or lower.

  • sorry.. probably stupid question…. could i install plex client on this? Or how does most people use this?

    • plex, netflix, kodi, or whatever else android you wanna install.

      • Looking at the Whirlpool thread for this box the switching between frame rates isn't automated so if you have some 29.7FPS TV and then some 25FPS TV then you need to delve into the settings to change it each time.

That is what I have gathered anyway. That would be a pain in the ar$e for me as its one more thing I need to get the wife across.

        Unless someone can advise otherwise.

        • Is this really such a big problem though apart from home theatre fans? I know that purists believe in 24fps playback for movies but I have yet to see any of the general pubic notice a difference.

My Apple TV 4 i suspect probably doesn't have auto refresh setting either (not sure though) but I never notice any difference.

        • @djz: I was just throwing it out there as something I had read. It may or may not be an issue for the OP but worth knowing.

        • @djz: Big problem if you get frame judder when the source material does not match the frame rate of the TV. It's a big complaint about the Fetch TV box also.

Bugs the crap out of me seeing pauses every few seconds.

@Ramrunner: Ahh crap, same problem on the Fetch TV Mighty as well? Damn that was on my planned purchase list as I'm using Plex DVR at the moment and its SOOO buggy that the wife is asking for the Fetch instead!

I have an Apple TV 4 which also doesn't have auto refresh switching but to be honest I've never noticed any issues despite watching Netflix, You Tube, Live TV via Channels app and catch up TV.

My next option might be either using a Mac mini as a HTPC or an Nvidia Shield Pro…but that's nearly $500 !

        • @djz: Yes, you have to set the Fetch refresh rate manually. So I have mine set to 50Hz, which is perfect for FTA recorded shows. No problems there. Catch up also works perfectly. Unfortunately Netflix source material is usually 30fps which doesn't divide into 50 and you get the judder. UK stuff is usually OK, and of course if using DLNA it depends on the source.

Also, I must say I'm extremely happy and impressed with my FetchTV, BUT I did buy it mainly as a DVR in which it does a stirling, flawless job.

          NOW

I've had back and forth e-mails with Fetch and they HAVE STATED that in August there will be a firmware update to rectify a lot of issues including fixing the issue with 4K Sony and Samsung TVs, AND they will allow the box to adjust frame rate automatically if you so choose. So in theory it would detect the source frame rate and set the refresh rate on the TV accordingly automatically. Most TVs now support both 50 and 60Hz so this would fix the problem.

I'm not making any promises this will actually happen, but they are certainly aware of the issue and are working on it.

Let me state again I think the Fetch hardware/software/EPG is the best I've ever seen and I DO think it's a worthwhile purchase but maybe you want to wait till the firmware is actually out.

@Ramrunner: That's great to hear and THANK YOU very much for taking the time to let me know how you've found it so far. For a 4 tuner 1TB DVR I think the Fetch Mighty is excellent value, especially given I can save $100 by trading in my old Tivo.

          Cheers mate!

    • lolz~you just killed this deal for me…

  • Anyone know how i can load vietnamese channels on this? And movies website like those advertised on gumtree preloaded already?

  • Bought another one…. I'm sure i needed it?

    Thanks OP

  • Can these be used to stream via smb/nfs network shares?

    • Yes. I'm playing back from my nas right now

  • Can someone explain what these are good for - for someone who has US dns/vpn and regularly watches netflix predominantly is it worth getting?

    • Kodi for everything not on Netflix.

  • code doesnt work again.

  • What is the largest size external hard drive you can attach to these?

  • Not working again. Get your act together.
