At What Stage Can You Go to Get a Car Wash Financially?

Just wondering how much should u earn, before u think it is ok to go for a car wash?
Running a tight ship here and crunching the numbers.

  • Assuming you need to do 1 carwash / week at $30 each, and also assuming 4% annual investment return… then to be 'financially independent car wash' you need $39,000.

    ($30 x 52 weeks)/0.04 = $39,000

You invest the $39,000 to have a return of $30/week.

If it was me I'd spend the 1hr/week. Cheaper.

I thought he meant wash his car with $100 bills. Ching Ching!!

I used to work at Bp back in my uni days I took like 30 carwash free cards all stamped. Use once every 6 months that gives me about 15 years of free carwash.

Lol got my LOLs reading this post…

Just leave the car out in the rain and voila washed.

  • There should be a way to down-vote these silly posts.

  • I drive a 2001 car and I give my car in a hand car wash once every two months for $15 ~ $20 and a tip of $5 to the person who wash it. My income is less than 50k p.a.

You don't need millions to get a carwash bro, just need a lazy ass and a good heart like me 😅😂

    • I never heard of anyone tipping at car wash. Is this common? I have never been to a car wash before.

      • I heard from a car wash guy that they get nuts for working hard in cold weather with chill water and freezing hands.

Thought that $5 would make them forget all the pain and give some energy for rest of the day.

  • You can afford to wash it if you earn more than $60 per hour
    Done.

I feel sorry for op with so many people making fun of him/her. It seems cruel to me.
    It was just a question.
Kind of puts me off asking questions here.

  • +2

If this is why we need NBN I'm going back to dial-up. And strangely not the dumbest question this month.

    • Gold. Better tell Malcolm, he'll be pleased to hear that

  • +2

Next question: how do I use a sponge?

    • Actually, I got in trouble (re instructed) once for using a chamois to clean a 4wd at a charity car wash. My dad's car had never been dirty enough to need a separate sponge!

I think op means what stage financially ould op pay someone to do carwash and not seem extravagant. I think it does not matter, as long as you think the money is well spent, and it can do a better job then you, then yes. E.g. Warren buffet does not seem to have an extravagant lifestyle, give lots of his wealth to less advantage.

  • Honestly stay away from most of those wash while u shop places. They dont care for your car at all. Next time u go past one just check the state of their drying clothes, they are not good.

  • +1

It depends on how much you want to spend washing the car. I you go through the automatic car wash, you're looking at a minimum of $10 + $1 vacuum.

The cheapest way I've found is a $4 manual wash + $1 vacuum as follows (each $1 gets you 90 seconds?):

1st $1 - quickly wet car then start foaming brush. Time will run out but you should have enough soap on the car to complete washing it

    2nd $1 - Rinse off car

    3rd $1 - Low pressure wax

    4th $1 - Spot free rinse

    Finally, $1 for vacuum

    Total: $5! :-)

Meanwhile OP is pissing himself laughing at how many comments his troll post has…
    So am I.

    • Only a few of us have noticed he's a troll mate, most people wouldn't bat an eyelid if he changed his name to Trolleee McTroleee

But your threads and posts suggest you're happy as Larry. You were in LA recently and you're looking at buying IPs and a Beemer. Or was this all BS?

If you're asking for an opinion on the value of going to a paid car wash but also asking about high value items I think you might need to reasses your priorities.

    • +2

So either youre trolling with your post history or trolling with this thread. Which is it?

      • +1

who cares its a troll. stop indugling it with your attention

        • +2

          Lol the irony

  • +1

OP has not been seen since posing this hard-hitting question 😂

    • -2

Can't imagine why. Probably doesn't need the negativity of so many people here

Do what the asian ladies in Sunnybank QLD.
Go to the service station and use the provided squeegee and bucket of water to squeegee the whole car. No cost at all.

  • Go to a coin wash. It will cost you only $4 if you are smart with the process you use to clean your car.

My approach - High pressure rinse for 1 minute, Foam brush for 1 minute (and when it runs out I keep using it to brush the car since soap is already on there), and finally High pressure rinse again until my money runs out.

    Good luck!

  • I am new to manual car wash and I admit that i am lazy to drive to one to find out.

Can a kind person please tell me what facilities are provided in a manual car wash place?

From I read in this thread, there are:

    1) Soap Gun
    2) High pressure horse
    3) Vacuuming

It seems that I should stock myself with $1 dollar coins instead of two dollar coins. Any other tips to know before going for my first manual car wash? What should i bring to car wash? Is it just a sponge, towel and pail?

  • When 20 mins of your time isnt worth $20

How awkward this thread got for OP lol. Watchnerd destroyed it and now OP would not bother replying to anyone.

Agree with you. I'm a bit stunned at some of the personal attacks here

      • +4

it wasnt a personal attack at all.

He simply did his investigation and presented it to the masses.

    • +2

I think OP could not be bothered because his troll was so successful without it.

My car gets serviced yearly and includes the yearly wash.

  • +1

I always get Jeeves to take the Merc for wash and wax, so wouldn't have a clue old chap

  • Also depends on how often you want your car washed …
I just get those wash'n'wax places to do an inside and out wash every 6 months for about $40.
That stops the car from getting really bad, and if the car bothers me in the meantime I'll grab a bucket and sponge and give it a wipe down.

  • +1

when you aint got time for dat

  • Yes.

Can we delete this thread please

    • +1

      Found the censor sensei.

  • any serious person would wash their car at home.. if worried about cost of water etc, then go waterless washes with a detailer spray.. as long as its not too dirty and for touch up wash.

  • Buy a cat and let it lick it clean.

  • Just exploit groupon car service deals that come with free car clean and free coffee/wifi.

  • Wrong answers all. To correctly answer op' s question. One must consider the tight ship first: is said ship clean or dirty?

  • This thread is a troll for sure

  • Yeh man,I can totally dig your groove, like how many roads does one have to travel.?

  • +1

Next you'll ask how many showers a week you can have or how many times you can reuse dishes before washing them, in order to save money.

  • I crunched the numbers on whether I should answer this post, and I came up with losses, but decided to press on regardless. My opinion must be aired at great personal cost.

In my idea of a sane world, car wash places should be making losses staying open because they'd be making $0.00 taxable income. You can buy all the 'tools' necessary for a car wash for next to nothing and do it yourself - with love. Did you know?

And most importantly: for almost no cost.
And most importantly: almost no fuel to get there.
And most importantly: enough change to buy you some GST-free food. And another calculator to double-check results.

Speaking of making ends meet: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_taxes_in_Australia
Lovely guv, bro. Add to that the registration and insurance scams and you have recipe for smiles, yo.

  • I used to wash my car once every three months. The drive through scratches so I would pay for hand wash. Cleaning windows at servo is free :) Once a year I would get fully professional car clean - that was always good to look forward to!

  • +2

don't bother. the car will just get dirty again.

  • +1

Depends on how much money you need to launder.

  • I shall try to address the OP orginal question with the thorough analysis it deserves.

    1. Purchase a MAC computer. Top of the range is best. Don't forget to keep and eye out for 10% off at JB and see if cash rewards has any special offers.

    2. To ensure optimal performance of the above device, ensure you pay an extra $400 for MAC care protection.

    3. Upgrade your software and anti-virus protection immediately upon purchase.

    4. Enrol in a 6 month, non refundable course on how to do advance microsoft excel skills to assist with crunching the numbers. $1500 should cover it. Commit 10 hours a week to your course.

    5. Once the said course is complete. Enter your weekly post tax income. Calculate the depreciation on the above expenses. If you are left with $20 are all living expenses are paid for, puchase a magic 8 ball. Myer have one for under $20 avialable here. https://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/2719200?gclid=Cj0KCQjw7… You might wait to wish for it to become available on an EBay sale for 20% off, depending on your urgency.

    6. Once you have successfully obtained your magic 8 ball, it will provide you with the answer you require even more successfully than asking a bunch of strangers on this site. It cannot fail you. Millions of purchases prove they are worth much more than the few hundred posters on this site.

    7. If all of the above fails, just cough up $35 to pay someone on non award wages to wash your car. If you regret your decision and it adversely impacts your life, seek professional counselling. The best ones start at $400 an hour.

    8. Once steps 1-8 are completed, you will finally be able to answer this important life answer that so many of us have lost sleep over. Please DO keep us updated so we too can learn from your experience.

Just wondering how much should u earn, before u think it is ok to lease the above mentioned MAC computer?
Running a tight ship here and crunching the numbers.

  • OP put on an orange bikini and sponge wash your car yourself ffs

  • At the stage where you don't have to ask people on a forum "At What Stage Can You Go to Get a Car Wash Financially?".

  • At What Stage Can You Go to Get a Car Wash Spiritually?

    • Only if you are one with the elements.

  • Ok…so I am new here. Am I wrong to be perplexed by this post?

    • You will get used to it. From ozbargain being the port of call if they had neighbour issues, legal troubles/dilemma and medical reasons.

The serious answer to op was simple.

If they have money to pay for car to get washed. Then why not.

If not then wash car themselves.
