  • Does this version require the 6-pin power connector or is it powered solely from the PCI port? Am thinking of getting this for one of those Dell Optiplex PCs(Seeing as its half the price of the GTX 1050)

    • -2

It's 6 pin power from PU. Not bad price . Postage is another $20 in my case .

      • +2

No its not, PCI Powered completely

    • +9

You might want to consider a GT 1030 like this instead
With the "PLAYER" coupon it should be around the same price as this while not being much slower and it has a much lower power draw and HDMI 2.0

      • +4

        Not might. Definitely.

You get all the Pascal GPU media stuff like hardware HEVC decoding with the 1030. And it's fanless.

        • +2

Well, that one has a fan.

      • +1

Speed comparison has the 750 out on top though http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GT-1030-vs-Nvidi…

Edit: Although actual gaming performance might show a different story http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-750-Ti-vs-GeForce-GT-103…

        • +1

Nah the 750ti is definitely faster, about 15-20% faster. it's just for some prebuilt PCs the 75watt TDP of a 750ti is out of spec.
The Dell Optiplex 9010 SFF mentioned in an earlier post officially only supports up to 50watt cards over PCIe and some prebuilts only go up to 40 or 25watts.
It's not really definitive though, i've seen people running a 1050 in a 25watt rated prebuilt before. It just puts extra strain on a likely very shitty power supply which may not be ideal.

    • Solely powered from the PCIe Slot

  • +4

I have one in a Dell Optiplex 9010 SFF and it works great as a hackintosh with this graphics card! Just use the nvidia web driver.

    • Does it need any extra power cable to do this? Interested in getting one instead of using integrated gfx in my Optiplex 9010 SFF.

    • +1

iampviot, what instructions did you use to build your hackintosh, if you don't mind me asking?!

      • Would like to know too.

        • +1

I installed El Capitan using multibeast and unibeast. I don't remember the particulars, It was just trial and error. I have not got USB3 to work yet, but I assume it would involve editing DSDT files.

I think I followed this guide, just with differen uni/multibeast for el capitan instead of maverick; https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/install-mavericks-on-dell…

  • +1

    But can it run crisis?

    • +1

      Yes. Good, efficient card.

    • -7

on medium settings yes, but with amd cpu not even low

      • +1

Implying even an FX chip would bottleneck a 750ti, not to mention AMD's Ryzen CPUs are fantastic

        • -3

honestly yes FX CHIP would definitely, bottleneck, you clearly haven't bought an FX Chip ever?

  • Anyone know what the HDMI and DisplayPort versions are on this? I'm looking for a cheap way to run a 4K monitor at 60Hz (not to game with). I actually already have an old GTX 750 Ti, but it's only got 2 DVI's and an HDMI mini, which I can only assume wouldn't be HDMI 2.0 spec. Seems like they never bother to detail the specs of the ports on these cheap cards. Max resolution looks fine, but I can't confirm if this one (or my current one) would support 60Hz…

    • +2

Get a GT 1030, see above.

      • Oh cheers, didn't see that!

        • +1

          …..there's also the:
          Intel iGPU HD640/Iris Pro

          RX 550 (slowest)
          GTX 750
          GT 1030
          GTX 750Ti
          RX 460/RX 560
          GTX 1050
          GTX 1050Ti (fastest)

If you must know how they will act inside a Dell 9010/HTPC/Console Killer, the slowest shouldn't be far off from a XB1 performance. Whereas the fastest should be trading blows with the PS4 Pro. If you go a step higher, example GTX 1060-6GB, now you're effectively outperforming the Xbox One X/Project Scorpio as well.

    • At least with my hackintosh I am able to run a Dell P2715Q screen at 4K in 60Hz. This is with the displayport when MST is turned off. I assume it would be possible to run it in that resolution and refresh rate in windows as well.

  • Will this or the gt1030, suit a n40l microserver?

    • I use an AMD 6450 in mine. Anything thats low profile without a fan is what you want, but it cant have a huge heatsink because it presses up closely against the wall and clips on the left side of the n40l

if you're going to use it as a HTPC, (which is prob why you want the 1gb gpu in the first place), remember that any fan on the gpu is going to create noise… how annoying that noise is to you is up to you. but I prefer a fanless low profile gpu, I dont wanna hear the humm of a crappy fan

I unplugged the fan on my 6450 and even under full load it only ever hits 50 degrees Celsius so thats an option too I guess

      • +3

angle grind heatsink to make it fit in tight spaces

        • +1

@person who negged me: It can be done with a bit of skill and determination

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xgfLPBzL2w

        • +1

@ozdesi: proof of silliness, not confirmation it's a good idea.. angle grinding will remove metal mass which is used to disipate hear.. so grinding it down may make a difference in the heatsink's ability to function properly.

        • @ozdesi: you claimed "angle grind the heatsink" and provided proof…. of a video that shows no cutting of any heatsink at all, no wonder you got downvoted

    • +1

The MSI GT1030 fits in the HP N36L Microserver with 1mm to spare between the huge passive heatsink and the bottom of the case. You need to route some cables around it. Not a hard job, and then you can play x265 in 1080p with negligible CPU load.

Take a look at the detailed specs here:
      https://www.pccasegear.com/category/193_1887/graphics-cards/…

      • speaking of PCCG and the HP, you dont happen to know anywhere that still sells the Nexus DoubleTwin brackets do you? I need another one for my newest N40L and it seems PCCG no longer stock them along with everywhere else

or another way to fit two 3.5" sata drives in the optical bay, wasn't sure what other anti vibration brackets would hold two there that reduce noise though.

hands down best 6 bay NAS money can buy.

        • eBay sells them.

I get the feeling PCCG has stopped selling as many niche items as they used to.

Might be just worth paying a tad extra and buying this instead

    • +2

yeah but sometimes people get "low profile" for a reason :)

      • True!like me

        • What's the point though?

        • +1

          @SimpleRoger:

Those with small form factor pc's which comes with 240W power supplies.

Personally, I bought a HP Pro 6305 SFF w/ AMD A10-5800K + 16GB ram + 1TB HDD for $165.00 second hand and chucked one of these in and got myself a pretty decent gaming rig for less than $300.00

        • @ev3nfl0w: Does it run games well? Does the CPU bottleneck.

        • @ev3nfl0w: HAHAHAHA, High Five!

Just bought a 8300 SFF for $130. Time to build my first Crapintosh.

        • @SimpleRoger: Considering the A10-5800K is roughly around the same as the Ivy bridge Intel Core i5 3570K no CPU bottleneck has been experienced as of yet.

Runs GTA 5 on high settings @ 55 fps on avg if that helps.

        • @ev3nfl0w: Wait actually i thought the a10 was a really shit cpu almost the same as pentium?

        • @SimpleRoger: Do a quick search via Google!

        • @SimpleRoger: If by pentium you mean the newer pentiums with Skylake/kabylake architecture and hyperthreading, you're right, should be faster actually, even in content creation which old AMD CPU were particularly not completely terrible at the A10 is about on par with an i3 2100 and the pentium g4560 is a good deal faster than that.
Pentiums are a bit confusing though, there's also some Pentium branded mobile tier CPUs which are no faster than a decently clocked core 2 duo at best, there are older and also current pentiums that don't have hyperthreading so performance in stuff that can use more threads should be marginally faster on the A10

  • In my view the GT1030 and RX550 are bl00dy overpriced in australia and USA

    • -2

      where are they underpriced? Chinatown?

    • +6

In my view everything is bloody overpriced in Australia

    • Mate not in the US, but just go to Chinatown as ozdesi said

  • +1

I had one of these until I sold it (for $99 incidentally) and upgraded to a 1050ti
Great card for a HTPC / emulation rig.

    • Hell, it can play the latest games just fine, just on lowered settings at 1080p (for the hungrier ones).

  • Does anyone have a spare one or one they want to sell because they brodened them. Desperately need one for a special build. I like it because it has 2hdmi outputs

    • Aww dunno who negged, but here's a +

I'll need one soon too. Probably a 1030 when eBay has 20% off again.
