anyone know what the sony refurbs generally mean? are they actually used/second hand items or showroom stock or either?

    • I purchased a Sony refurb from Sony and it looked brand new, haven't experienced anything bad about it and it is 1 year old

  • missed it ! Was going to shoot at this deal given that I'm still rolling with A Samsung 50" Plasma from 2007.. ah well I'll just keep rocking out with my plasma :P

  • Sony at one point removed youtube access on their smart tvs….. i don't think that's been ever fixed coz they didn't renew a contract with them.

Anyone know if this "smart" TV has youtube access?

I have a 2015 Sony Android TV which absolutely has YouTube (KDL50W800C). The model here also runs Android so it will too.

Offtopic problem: My biggest complaint about my TV is that it doesn't let you filter channels by Favourites when using Channel + and - buttons. I can only cycle through ALL channels using + and -. Dunno if this is the same on newer models.

Frustratingly, my TV lets me choose Favourite channels but I can only access the Favourites list by opening the Discover menu, navigating to favourites and then choosing one channel. I would rather scroll through my favourite channels using + and - like I have done with every other digital TV I've owned.

      • Have you ever tried running kodi of it? Wondering how it would perform

I havent but i'll give it a go tonight and report back!

I run Plex more than anything and it works really well. Netflix and Stan do too.

        • Kodi is working perfectly fine with KDL75W850C.

        • @ozizoy: tried it running the eminence skin?

        good to know!

they sent me broken filthy one. They are ridiculous to deal with.

    • Mine was clean and looked as new but has distracting light bleeding into lower left corner, an agreed, not easy to deal with so it is going back, assume they will want me to pay freight though.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with Sony refurbs in future, can only assume the TV had been returned under warranty by the original purchaser for the same fault?
