Nice! Any chance for in store pickup?

    • +12

Something under discussion, but not at the moment…. longer term, probably.

The eBay store is still new for us and we are refining exactly how we position it.

      • Ok, thanks!

      • By the time you do that, Amazon will be here!

        • +16

amazon! hmmm…where did I put that reps number….

….Will be very interesting to see how they shake up things. Personally, I hope they help push up the QoS for couriers, thats the main pain point selling outside QLD for us, no so much cost but customer service from couriers needs a boost.

        • +2

Have the retailers recovered from Costco's entrance into the Australian market yet?

        • @Computer Alliance: Well retailers will still be able to use Amazon like ebay.

      • Can you imagine that I live next to your store and you guys just dont allow me to pick up ebay order. really frastrating!

        • +15

I know….not good….I am just back at my desk from chatting with the MD about that very issue (Adam, GM here by the way, its usually me on this account - you will always know by the number of words to answer a simple question!).

I hate the idea of making life difficult for customers even if going through eBay gets the better deal with delivery compared to no eBay at all. Bit of a lose/lose depending on how you look at it. The choice was not made to cause frustration to locals, there are various competing issues we need to balance off and i wanted to start with a very simple model on eBay - all orders ship, all order incur the $15 freight charge, all orders paid immediately by Paypal with seller protection to the shipping address to control fraud.

I don't want to make any changes during the deal, sort of stuffs up our logistics given the number of orders a minute coming through, and i always fear breaking something (our interface with eBay and our internal SAP based systems was thrown together pretty fast, still not polished), but next week I'm going to take another look at it.

At this stage I'm inclined to switch on a pickup option in the near future but no promises.

        • +2

@Computer Alliance: fair enough, I am an accountant and had some experinces with SAP(Business one, dont really like it) data migration and auditing stuff, I always understand how hard it can be when swtiching on a new component, I look forward seeing u guys offer pick up!

        • +1

@Computer Alliance: Pick up would be awesome! You guys will be my new favourite eBay comp store. I hope it will be a feature in the future :)

      • Hope you stick around. :)

        • I would have bought a harddrive if you had pickup but the $15 kills the deal.

        • +8

@leyton01: I offer pickup, but I also don't have any harddisks for sale. I guess I could sell a bed. Are you confusing me with Computer Alliance?

    • would be nice for pickup. i waited 1 week to have it delivered about 200m down the road. :)

  • +5

Yup - I checked a few prices against MSY and they're definitely cheaper on CA ebay store at the moment :)

  • Damn that 1080 ti is tempting…. needa sell my 1080 first xD

    • +2

Keep you 1080 until the next generation of cards come out.

  • Glad to see you guys posting more frequently on OzBargain! long time, happy customer.

  • +1

Their $15 shipping kills it. If it was free shipping then yeh. For that reason I'm out :-p

    • +8

$15 for courier delivery is pretty reasonable.

      • +2

Also seems to be capped at that, no matter how much you order which is great!

      • It's not bad, and v. fast too. I ordered some video cards from them yesterday and it arrived in Sydney (from Brisbane) this morning.
They have good service answering my questions quickly, too!

    • +17

Its a flat fee, and very intentionally set to encourage more substantial orders while usually covering the cost of small orders. Sorry if it doesn't suit everyone but I can tell you its working well for most customers.

      • +4

It's fast shipping too. I received an order to Perth in two days.

      • +3

It definitely worked out for me, bought a whole new PC for my brother last ebay sale and that $15 flat delivery fee for all my items was a nice saving.

      • It's a flat fee

Does this mean I only pay $15 for multiple items in combined shipping?

        • That's usually what a flat fee means.

  • I buy

  • +6

Glad to see a computer store In eBay that doesn't jack its prices up when there is a sale on. Am looking to get a SSD

    • -3

      Dont believe everything you read.

    • +7

Yeah they just remove stock from ebay listings.

      • Notices the Pentium G4560 was removed. Looking at MSY you’d have to order a bunch of things to justify the $15 postage, but then you can’t shop around.

  • +6

Seems odd.. seeing that these speakers are $299 in your website, but $349 on eBay?
    https://www.computeralliance.com.au/logitech-z906-5.1-thx-sp…

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Logitech-Z906-5-1-THX-Speaker-Sys…

    not same price, eh?

    • -4

      Caught out

    • +31

You mean, this one at $349? https://www.computeralliance.com.au/logitech-z906-5.1-thx-sp…

Yes, on that one and a few others (out of thousands) we have the item listed twice on our main site, the usual price and a special listing limited one per customer. If you want more than 1, you pay the normal price. These are the prices that have been up for some time on our site, nothing to do with eBay deals and they are not changed during eBay deals.

We put a limit on them at very low prices to stop dealers or anyone else taking the lot in one order (it happens). Those prices are only possible when we do large buy ins and so stock is limited. We want to keep them available to our regular retail customers rather than the hit and run types who only buy on these sort of specials.

Most of the limit 1 per customer deals are not listed on eBay. Simple reason is, eBay have no way to limit buys on a single product and the lot woudl sell out to a few dealers right away (I know, we did try). Its a pain.

Some of you may remember our last 20% off eBay deal when we sold a couple of hundred of a certain 1080ti model that was well received on Oz bargain. Had the same issue with a lot of people buying in bulk to resell (often buying a lot of other gear from us as well, always the gear under disty prices!). We were always going to sell all the stock at that price, but my preference was to spread them around retail customers, eBay don't make that easy.

We don't mind resellers buying from us in general, but I like to keep these very good deals available to retail customers.

If anyone has a solution, am interested to hear about it!

      • Well CA was the only company I could get a GTX 1070 under my $600 budget, so they got a +1 from me. (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/172794593855)

I note this isn't the GTX1070 you recommend in your post which is about $40 more expensive. I guess this is because larger 1070 with an extra fan provides more options for people who want to overclock, but the smaller cheaper one is fine for people who don't overclock?

        • +4

The post was just a sample, quite a few video cards up there at good prices and brands/heat sinks designs etc tend to be personal preference along with no much extra $ people want to put for non-critical design improvements

I don't OC myself nowadays, stability is what i look for, but even so i do go with the beefier heat sinks etc and cards needing a little less oomph from the fans. Hate noisy fans.

Just comes down to your own expectations.

        • @Computer Alliance: Thanks. I hate fans too. I might underclock it. IIRC I can use MSI afterburner to undervolt it, and have it still remain a big upgrade from a 750 Ti.

      • Makes sense!
Just Your luck - that that was the only item I saw and then while looking for reviews your site popped up.

    • +2

Most shops have their items more expensive on ebay because of seller and paypal fees…

      • +5

Yup, which is understandable. The way I think of it, we spend serious $ on advertising around SE QLD that you can apportion to each local retail sale driven by that advertising, a fee for sale if you like.

Because we don't have much of a presence south, i am happy to pay eBay a comparable fee for what is essentially advertising on their platform for new customers and sales in that area. Bit of a win/win, as long as we can make those sales at a profitable level (tough, this 20% deal is not directly profitable, but worthwhile in other ways). Actually win/win/win if it improves our profit, drives down prices for customers on eBay, and makes eBay a few $.

… by that logic though, it becomes a problem essentially doubling advertising cost of sales locally if regulars start buying from eBay. Something we will have to work through and continue to be up front about. The other issue is diluting our quite strong local brand on eBay…these things seem always a trade off.

i bought a headset from computer alliance they used star track to deliver it and i got my product the very next day! 10/10

    • +2

      Example?

    • +3

My guess is you are looking at some of the synology units.

I have never said we don't change our prices. Of course we change our usual shop prices periodically, usually at the time we order in new stock. Often prices go down, sometimes they come up. I know some of our Synology prices were increased a while back, new stock comes in, we reprice. We don't always get a better price each time we buy. I don't think there have been many changes among the far bulk of the NAS units we sell and i would bet if I looked I could find some we have reduced recently.

The price is the same through the shop as eBay and are unlikely to change after this deal.

Should I list the products that we have reduced in price in the last few weeks? Many, many more than we have increased, which is the norm. Consider the video cards that spiked a while back because of shortages, and take a look at some of the cards I listed in this post, many of the cards have been REDUCED recently. Again, nothing to do with eBay, just normal retail operations. Cost dropped, we dropped the price.

I do understand the suspicion and comments about price jacking. i have had a look myself and see many competitors who list practically all products on their shop sites at significantly less than their eBay prices and in some cases increase a large part of their range just before these deals come up.

Not so with us and I think anyone taking a fair look will see that.

  • $150 delivered for the STK1AW32SC Intel Compute Stick is a great price:

These video cards have been cheaper before. MSY had the 1060 3GB for $289 and the 6GB for $369 a while back.

    • +9

All the video cards at that range were cheaper before the mining boom, doesn't change the fact these are great prices now.

    • Clearly Mrz doesn't understand that the change in dollar currency also affects price increase/decrease… but hey, some ppl don't realise this.

      • Remember when $200 used to get you an amazing video card… like my GTX660 which was $215 new, or the 9800GT I had before that ($175 or so). Now you need to spend double that for something decent. Geforce2 MX and Geforce4 Ti4200 were both under $200 in their day as well.

  • Can we group postage?

    • +5

The $15 is a flat fee for shipping PER ORDER (not per item).

Just remember to add all parts to the shopping cart and add the coupon code, check the price has been reduced before ordering (a lot of poeple miss added the code and have to cancel and reorder).

The freight cost we still at $15 no matter how many items you add to a order, BUT please don't buy one thing at a time or the system will charge you $15 on each ORDER and we can't combine postage if multiple orders are placed.

      • thanks for response

  • +2

Looks like your 7700k CPUs were cheaper previously. I'm pretty sure they were jacked up during the last sale.

I bought 3 GTX 1070s from this store - solid store, good rep and fast delivery

    Highly recommend them

    • What did you do with 3 1070s?!?!?

      • I think you know the answer to that

    • +1

      Don't lie

    • +1

Untrue. The graphics card I bought is still much cheaper than current price on MSY.

Out of stock after one sold when it said more than 10 available when i posted.

Clearly you removed it from ebay.

      • Sorry but what?
No a broden didn't buy all stock. you can see how many sold after i posted my deal.
exactly ONE sold AFTER i posted my deal despite more than 10 being available when i posted and it still instock on their website.

        • Maybe it was 2

        • @Gimli: It says ONE on ebay
either way more than 10 to 0?

Neggers I didn't mean for you to neg me.

    • +31

Not everything in the store is on eBay. I have pointed this out in multiple posts, its not a secret. The 7600K is most certainly not "price jacked" on eBay, in fact its not on eBay at the moment and yes, it has been removed. In the past that model has been removed and put back up a number of times, automatically…. perhaps you would like to know why.

We have a automated system that manages most of the listings on eBay. I'm not going to specify all the parameters that are considered, but I will tell you the main criteria is to retain a buffer margin for our normal system builder and shop sales. That means if the algorithm we use decides numbers are not plentiful in stock to cover X days of normal sales in shop and for our system builds, it is delisted from eBay. Thats the simple version anyway, there is a bit more too it.

Please see a former post that listed some of the CPUs during the last 20% off deal. They were clearly not pulled before the deal to avoid selling, if that was our intention we would not have had them listed at the start of the deal. From memory 7600s, 7700s etc were listed for a while at same price as we had at the shop, and had been at the price for quite some time. When enough had sold (shop + eBay) to threaten our buffer level, the system pulls them. Note most of our sales are via our normal operations, not the shop, and sales at the shop impact is something stays on ebay. eg a corporate order for another 500 machines comes in, the gear is alloacted and pulled from stock. It also puts them back up when our next buy in pushes levels beyond the buffer.

Not rocket science, and I think common sense. We are not going to stop our system build process because we allocated too many CPUs to eBay sales!

Also note some of the better deals that disappeared from eBay quite fast when the last 20% deal started came back up a few days later — we got more stock in. automatic.

I'm not sure why a few people feel so hard done by. I am as up front as possible about how we manage prices and listings and anyone can see the overwhelming majority of our store stock is up on ebay at the same prices as we have been selling for regularly at the shop. If you want to be pedantic about it, check what prices were days, weeks, months ago on our main site + ebay and see the pattern of price changes on ALL product and you will see I the pattern follows what i have indicated.

      • +10

Gotta be the most transparent retailer out there!

      • +1

I did not say you price jacked.
i'm pissed cause it went from more than 10 available to 0 after 1 sold.

Thanks for explaining the automated part.

Edit: I have removed my negative vote.

        • -2

The extra $3 is worth it for much faster shipping and better after-sales service though compared with SE.

I am buying MSI one so apples cannot compare to oranges. Also, CA is relatively my local stores in Brissy & I purchased many times physically in past. Thanks for info though. :)

  • good luck with your sale OP, your customer service is great compared to most others :)

Got anything good for a 1440p 144hz monitor?

  • Hey Rep, Do you guys stock the AOC AGON 35" G-sync screen at all?

Also, any idea on the pricing of Asus's new 200hz Ultrawide 35" HDR monitor?

  • ANyone know what monitor to buy? From the 150 - 250 range?

  • +2

I once bought an Albatron 6600GT 128M AGP Video Card for $279 from their Mt Gravatt store 12 years ago. It was a long drive, so I haven't been back.

  • I was about to purchase a 1600 and x370 taichi but they're both $30 more than CPL plus shipping :(. Decent savings to be sure, but not enough to stop me from waiting for cofee lake.

  • I'm looking to buy a couple of monitors, but when I get to the checkout page - and despite selecting my Paypal account as the payment source - when I enter the 'PLAYER' code I get the message 'This code can't be applied to your order'. Could this be because I'm currently logged-in from outside of Australia (i.e. the EU)? I want to deliver to my address in Australia, but … seems like no dice for some reason.

    • +3

Thats weird, could be. We do block buyers whose address is outside Australia, maybe if your default shipping or billing is still overseas it might be a problem. Might be also worth trying via a VPN into Australia if you have access to one.

Also note you can only use it the code on 3 orders.

There and MANY bugs in ebays interface, still learning their work arounds myself.

      • +1

Thanks, but everything - Paypal account, ebay account, all addresses - are Australian based. I suspect this is an ebay thing that's preventing the code working.

Will definitely give it a shot with an Australian-based machine ASAP; I've got Teamviewer installed on my folk's machine for this .. ahem … 'remote support' purposes.

  • Wow nice deal on the 1060!

  • Hi rep,
Can you please tell us your return procedure?? should it go via eBay return process, ??.

    Thanks

    • +3

Simple answer, probably send us a message in ebay 1st.

Their returns system has some issues when matched with paypal and breaks under certain conditions, especially if a coupon code has been used or the return is part of a larger order or a partial refund. It basically causes delays and headaches for us having to get Paypal/ebay reps to talk to each other and manually do any refunds.

If you think its a fault, might also be an idea to give our techs a ring on 07 3421 3200 for help with problem solving. We have some tech guys on Saturdays, so 9-4pm tomorrow someone will be there. Quite a few issues can be solved over the phone when its not actually a fault but may appear to be.

      • If an eBay order has a coupon applied, you can only provide a full refund.

We've had to do send money for customers that have returned parts of their order.

It's a poor system and one that will hopefully be remedied as they continue to move away from legacy systems.

  • +2

These guys are legit - bought a power supply on Monday, shipped on Tuesday. They were cheaper than PCCG and MSY. Keep up the good work!

  • Hi @Computer Alliance,

Can you do any better on the price of the 12 Bay Synology RS3617XS RackStation (eBay item number: 172730412254) ? I would buy it if it was priced like PC Lan (eBay item number: 361709938673) - ATM there is a sizable difference between the two list prices.

    • +2

Would like to clear that, just one physically here that was a cancelled order.

Dropped it to $4595 before the code — thats well under what we paid for it or that anyone can buy from distribution — can't promise it won't sell to someone else so jump on it!
