  • Talisman, 2nd edition for the artwork, 3rd for the slightly more balanced game play
Civilisation, 1982 board game from Avalon Hill (not to be confused with Sid Meier's video game or board game of that video game and also not the video game adaptation of the 1982 board game) or if you actually want to finish a game play History of the World instead.
Car Wars Card Game (now back in print! as is the original simulation board game Car Wars, which is also awesome)

I must stop… could go on forever.

  • 1: Dwarf Fortress
    2: Mount and Blade: Warband
    3: Wonderful 101
    4: XCOM (The Firaxis one)
5: Metal Gear Solid 1 and 3 tied for fifth spot lol.

I wanted to say Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but that's mostly because of what it represents, rather than the game itself. To me, that game seemed like a shining light in the swamp of stale open world games. I hope other games emphasise discovery in a genre that is ABOUT exploration… Or maybe they'll just keep making Far Cry gathering clones like HZD.

  • +1

One Must Fall 2097. Skunny Kart, Golden Axe. lol

  • Narrowing it down to 5 is hard, a top 10 would be easier, but here goes:

    Other games I enjoyed:

    Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite
    Metal Gear Solid 2
    Halo 2 and 3
    Age Of Mythology
    Mario Kart Double Dash

  • Very hard to decide this early in the morning but…

    Pinball Machine
    Stern Addams Family 1992

still the best pinball machine ever

    • +1

Agreed, best ever (with Indy being a close second for me), although I thought it was Midway?

I used so many crossed $1 coins when I was working in a pub that we had this in.

      • +1

Oh, and Indiana Jones… another cracking pinball.

        • never played that one, have to go find it

        • @Squidmcsproggen: It's a lot of fun. I worked with a guy that told me that "Theatre of Magic" by Stern (I think), was really, really close in play style to Addams Family, but I've only seen Theatre of Magic in one pub in one pub over the years and didn't get a chance to play it.

      • yup sorry mate, it was midway.
i was playing AC/DC at the time of writing it that is Stern.

i have played addams at least 1000 times and never get bored of it.
a mate has one and we spend the whole night playing it, after a few too many beers it gets harder and harder lol

      • BTW Farsight make an android or apple version on their pinball arcade app.
you have to pay for it, it think its about $30, worth the money, they ended up paying $100 000 for the licence.

        • :O

          Holy shit!

          Are you serious?

I mean, sure it was a great pinny, but wouldn't some of the translation get lost on an Android/Apple port?? Egads! And then someone paying $30 for it?! Well, that's a small, small fraction of what I've spent on it in real life… But… It can't be the same…

Now I have to go and look at it…

        • @Adz81:
just had a look what i paid $4.99
$30 for a bunch of games but i didnt take that option, just the Addams family

considering its a electronic version its really a good game.
just takes a little bit to get used to the flippers but apart from that its identical.

        • @Squidmcsproggen: Just had a look at it… Actually really impressed with the reproduction, they've done a great job… I'm just fumbling around with the freeplay option, and don't think I'd quite make the decision to pay for it unless I got really used to not having the flippers. They've done well though.

        • @Adz81:

yup i spend hours a day playing it whilst working :)
seems really strange with all the parts looking brand new though.
For $5 you cant go wrong

    • I'm the master of this pinball machine, i always get the muuuuuultiballllll. ..omg people use to gather and watch me play. I love the the loud clack when you win a free game. Best pinball machine.

      • You might be the master but I'm the wizard.
I was playing spirit of 76 a few years ago and missed out on clocking it by 10 points.
I will never get that close again.

  • Can some one please tally up the results and post them with game and votes ? Ta

  • WoW - 10 years later I still chat and play games with my former guildmates, A ridiculously good groundbreaking game when it came out, although got to dumbed down to keep casual gamers happy.
Battlefield Series - Again Bf1942 was amazing during a time where dial up was still common, I've played every edition since, Bad Company 2 was probably the most enjoyable for its time.
Total War Series - While every new version is plagued with bugs until about a years worth of patches come out and the AI is never great. The games are always great fun to play. Although the Warhammer edition wasn't the greatest offering it was still decent.
Witcher 3 - Miles above any other single player RPG I've played.
Fallout / Elder Scrolls series - I put these together because they are basically the same games, Usually decent vanilla stories and just keep adding mods until they crash on you!

  • +2

Metal Gear Solid 1 - Playstation
    Cannon Fodder - Amiga 500
GTA - All, Especially Vice City and San Andreas, but all are great
Secret of Monkey Island - Amiga 500
Flashback - The Quest for identity - Amiga 500 and Sega Mega Drive

So many games to choose from, most of these are from high school years, never had a massive library but I played the crap out of all those old Amiga games.

Civ V (new addition, with expansions), Baldurs Gate II, Golden Eye, Uncharted (All), Last of Us, Age of Empires II, Rayman (PS3), the list honestly goes on.

So many great games but these are standouts for the time I spent playing and the storyline factor, Flashback & Metal Gear Solid there are still scenes of both games that I can remember even after all this time.

Currently have a massive pile of shame of games I have not yet finished but still want more, work and family just don't allow for hours of gaming anymore.

One to note is a Playstation game that I have still never quite finished to this day, Vagrant Story, this is an awesome RPG style game with timing based combat that is unbelievably deep for when it came out. It is also quite large and I have put it down and restarted so many times because life has just gotten in the way, I will finish this game one though.

        • Never played it. Was tempted to buy it, but an RTS on a console?

        • @idonotknowwhy:
Honestly, do yourself a favour and don't buy it.

        • +1

    3) Flashback (SNES)
    4) Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (XBOX)

    Honourable Mentions:
    Leisure Suit Larry: 1, 2 & 3
    Police Quest 1
Space Quest 1 (these games played a huge part in teaching me how to type)
    Monkey Island (PC)

    Quest for Glory 4 (PC)

    • +1

Props for your loyalty to the game.

What do you play? Ladder? Team Ladder? Arcade? From your display picture, guessing you play zerg.

      • Yes, I only play Z. I was in 1v1 Diamond and 4v4 Master League in WoL and HoS for a while, now I play 4x4 in LotV ocasionally, too much to keep up :)

        • +1

Nice. Z has to defend so much shit from Terran and Protoss so I suppose that helped build your perseverance for this game. As for me, 1v1 was too stressful and I only really made it to Plat in WoL/HotS with Terran. I mainly played 3v3, 4v4 and Nexus Wars in WoL and HotS like a casual scrub. Unfortunately, with the game's player-base dwindling to what it is now, I now only play 3v3 and Desert Strike on the weekends with 1-2 other friends.

    • Starcraft / Starcraft II has always been my favourite game. Use to spend half my day playing. Haven't got much time now. I'm guessing all the players left on servers now are all pros? - no point for me trying to get back in the game.

    • You sound a bit too much obsessed with this game. . You need help

  • Metal Gear Solid 3

Good old Thief. My game didn't install properly, and I played it for ages with literally no environmental textures: all walls and floors and ceilings were white. NPCs, treasure and moveable items had textures but that was all.

One day the textures worked, and it was suddenly a creepy game to play!
