There is a Windows 10 version, but you will pay 358.36 for what is basically the same laptop.

PROOF code does work on the laptops for those wondering.

  • Can you fit an SSD in the CD draw?

    • +1

      Yes

I would seriously considering upgrading the laptop to 8GB of RAM. 4GB is kind of tight these days.

    • Has this got one or two RAM slots?? If this has two, adding a stick of 4GB is not so expensive. Max ram?

      • +1

In the user manual in page 75 and under the section "Additional memory module" it's indicating that there's a second RAM slot in the laptop for another RAM stick. So you should be able to insert a second 4GB RAM stick into it.

And i would have to assume that the max memory of this laptop would be 8GB of RAM.

I dont like HD screens but I do like Toshiba as a brand. My old satellite pro was bullet proof.

    • The ones made in Japan were good.

  • It's hard to believe that once upon a time this was one serious piece of tech.

I always really like your tech posts scrimshaw! They're always good deals/great descriptions.

hard to believe they still sell for so much, in 2015 they were $480 brand new from Bing Lee

Shame that toshiba got out of consumer laptops, had a toshiba satellite pro 8 years ago, i7 930, 4gb (upgraded to 8), 500g hdd, gtx 330m (cant even remember what it played like), costed me $900 8 years ago and was rock solid, battery stated to show signs of failure, constant use and never cleaned it, (im still surprised it worked)
best thing was i sold it last month for $300, lost 66% of its value in 8 years, well worth the purchase :P

    • Laptops in those days were designed with high quality components and under more stringent process which were possible due to higher profit margins. As long as you can get the replacement batteries - they will last. My HP nc6400 was release in 2006 and is still running strong. On windwow 10 now and biometric login just works. Toshiba is well regarded and I applauded for the purchase of Toshiba laptop 3 years ago. But it failed within the 12 months warranty and repairing could only give it a couple of months life. It is very hard to say which laptop is good these days.

Can I launch this myself or do i have to get Kim Jong UN to do it .

  • I bought a Refurb Toshiba Satellite S50 early last year from Grays for about the same price. It has been great for my use. The power brick was DOA, Grays replaced it and refunded $20 for my trouble.
I have just recently replaced a failing hard drive

99% of use is as a torrent machine and streaming over the network

    • +2

No wonder the hard drive failed being used as a torrent machine. The drive would constantly be used non stop.

      • It gets a lot of use and can go days without being powered off & i use an external drive for the torrent use. Swapping the hard drive out was a fairly easy task.
I just used a 1 TB drive from a Seagate portable drive

Probably purchasing this one you are more likely to get troubles due to the review link provided. It's better to stay away from this, albeit I am n need atm

    • Look like decent specs on paper for the price, but agree with you. Would stay away too after reading soooo many bad reviews.
