HEY BART DO YOU WANNA SEE MY NEW CHAINSAW?!

      • +3

        and hockey mask

      • -1

        trim my hedge

  • Anyone have the line trimmer?how does it compare to a cheap one from bunnings i got a non branded one off a site and its slowly falling apart but have had it a few years now.

    • Went back for a refund after a week of not being able to start line trimmer. It's a hit and miss. Some are easier to start then others. But the one I got was impossible to start. So keep your receipt just in case. Lawn mower was ok though

    • This ALDI one has a "Premium Ezy-load head" but the currently cheap Homelite in Bunnings lacks that.

  • -1

Limited stock. Probably something stupid like 5 lawnmowers per store if your lucky

    • +2

Not really. Went this morning and they had pallets of it in a SA store

      • +1

It was super popular at opening time, saw more than 10 people with lawnmowers on their trolley alone and staff were bringing more out.

        • +1

yeh picked up a line trimmer and there at least 10 on racks + a number of them sold in first half an hr.

        • A couple of dudes took it out of the box in the car park before putting it their boot and just left the box on the ground. Ugh!

        • @I like bacon: Perhaps come back with your review?

        • +1

@PJC: Very loud. Had a victa before. Line trims adequately. Would buy again.

        • @I like bacon: Fair enough.

      • yeah i came in the afternoon and got a whipper snipper. but he said at register they had 100+ and they sold out in an hour.

  • +3

Wow.. lawn mower cheaper than edger.

Wonder why the edger only has a 1 yr warranty while the rest have 3 yrs

    • Last year I noticed a lot of their edgers on Gumtree.

  • +1

That mower looks like great value for money.

  • +1

Perfect for waking the neighbours on the weekend.

  • Anyone use an edger? The neighbour across the road has one. Don't understand it. I just turn my whipper sniper on its side and walk along the joins. Have the line circulating parallel with the path. Get a neat straight line without the need of another tool?

    • +2

Have been tempted to get the edger, but currently do what you do with the whipper snipper.

I think the difference is that the edger puts a little gap between the concrete and the lawn. Like a tiny trench the width of the blade. Looks neat, but another piece of machinery in the shed….

    • +1

i got a really cheap edger attachment for a brushcutter when masters closed down last year. i think it is easier and does a much neater job on long straight edges. not so good on tight curves and corners and over areas where the dirt is shallow.

i also picked up an old 1970s 4-stroke edger from a kerbside throw out earlier in the year. i'm currently waiting for some carby parts from china. hopefully it will run.

FWIW I've been using one for a lot of the day and i can assure folks that those ratchet anvil loppers are FANTASTIC! Got one last year and it's amazingly superior to just regular loppers. Absolutely powers through stuff and very solidly made. Very good buy.

  • +2

Nice! I'm going to buy that mower.

    Friendly warning:
To the person who buys the last one from my store before I get there, I will make you mow my lawn with your mouth.
    Cheers OP

    • +2

Get there before they open. With a 3 year warranty and a hard catcher, that is an impressive deal.

    • +3

Well son, bring a body bag.

  • +1

Great timing. I move into a new place soon and need a mower, line trimmer, chainsaw and possibly a blower. I could pick up the whole set for less than what I was about to spend on a Honda brush cutter. I swore I'd buy quality but these are bloody tempting.

Here's a pic of the catalog

  • I have a 15 year old Victa lawn mower that I was going to get serviced for the very first time. $60 for the service, but I suspect the "+ Parts" would be the killer.

Comparing a brand new mower with 3 year warranty for $139 to a $100 or so service makes this tempting.

I'd like to check what the 3 years warranty actually covers though.

I guess the obvious question would be, has anyone had experience of using one of these lawn mowers, and if so what were the good and bad points?

    • +2

      "Service'.

Is it a Briggs Stratton engine? I keep collecting old mowers from the side of the road. I usually buy spare air filters, spark plugs and priming bulbs off eBay from China for ~$1-$2 each ( just bought 10 filters, 10 spark plugs, 5 primers for $17)

Change the oil, sharpen the blades with an angle grinder, change the spark plug, air filter. Give it a good clean. And you are done.

    • yeah, unfortunately labour is a major cost. old victa 2-strokes seem to keep going and in my experience are easy to repair if nothing too major has gone wrong.

    • I've head a saying repeated a few times: "Friends don't let friends buy a cheap mower".

The fact that your Victa has lasted 15 years, is a strong indicator to spending the effort to service/repair.

Some of these cheap mowers are lucky to last a year before dying, and most can't be bothered o take back to Aldi/Bunnings etc., so they buy another cheap mower.

I have a 15 year old Victa 2 stroke, still going strong (I found on the side of the road - just needed a few cheap repairs - seals & filter).

  • Is the lawnmower any good? My old one broke and I am in market for a new one.

    • -2

Worth a try at this price.

  • For those that don't know, the full crank engine is far superior. Runs smoother, lasts longer.

  • +1

I've got my eye on the line trimmer - is is the ezyload head? I have an electric (corded) trimmer but is really shit and frustrating to use as I have some tough grass patches which the 1.6mm line breaks fairly easy.

    • The flyer says:-
2-stroke full crank engine; 375mm cutting diameter; Premium Ezy-load head accepting 3mm diameter line; 3 year warranty.

  • Does Bunnings have a price match on the leaf blower?

    • No, Bunnings don't stock them. These are exclusive to ALDI.

      • Right, so same as every other special buy that Bunnings advertise a counter-offer…

  • Went to buy the lawn edger. Turns out they are no longer available as advertised.

    • Many of their previous edgers ended up on Gumtree and eBay. I took that as a warning.

    • Wondered why they had disappeared from their website. I picked up the Ozito anyway for $148. Bunnings didn't need to price match after all. Now need to wait to fathers day to try it out.

  • Got the leaf blower. Pretty good for a small unit. Seems well built, better than my last $99 one anyway.

  • Any reviews on lawn mower?

  • +2

Picked up the gardenline line trimmer. Only ever had a electric (corded!!) line trimmer with about 1.6mm line which was way to frustrating to use.

Can't compare to other petrol line trimmers but it's been pretty good over the last two days - did nature strip and front wall Saturday morning and finished off the rest of the property this afternoon. Have to say I'm pretty impressed so far.

Setting up was a piece of piss too, replaced the line when I got it too to see if easy/hard, it was easy enough.

Money well spent if I can get it to last a year or two.
