Previously they had cruiser bikes on sale, that have gears.

The point is that these bikes are heavy, and without gears

You have to be very fit to pedal a heavy bike without gears especially if you live where there is any gradients to ride (even slight gradients)

And if you are a casual rider you won't be moderately bike fit, so riding these will be an effort

Frankly they are very limited in use and in most cases end up never being used.

Spending a little more or waiting for a sale on a geared bike would be a better deal

Target has this one - which has 6 gears so better value $139 - with code

At 50cm wheels these are for small kids though. My son is large for a 5 year old so he's almost outgrown his 40cm bike. 50cm is the next size up. I too would worry these cheap bikes are too heavy but I think his current bike is pretty heavy and it doesn't seem to be a problem for him to ride.
The cruiser bike is a 28inch one so definitely for adult women. I would be aiming for 21 speed to make hills easier… My wife likes the look of these cruisers but I think she will prefer the ease of riding a properly geared bike.

      • Yes agree on the smaller bikes for kids, my comments were only regarding the bikes for older people who will need the gears.

    • You love your gears don't you mate.

  • These look good, Cyclops seem to be the best quality for these department store brand bikes. I just bought the Kent 18" bmx for my son from the Harvey Norman deal for $30. Bikes in this range are heavy, but sometimes for good reason, I remember giving our bikes a really hard time until we were teenagers, like standing up on the go and letting the bike go phantom riding down hills… Just saying the demands on a kids bike are very different to an adult's bike that gets gently caressed on tarmac between cafes.

I think this Cyclops one has a steel frame where alot of other small Cyclops bikes are alloy. I think from when we bought his 12" bike there is a 1-2kg saving vs a small steel frame huffy.

  • Owning a bicycle store, we repair these exact bikes weekly (under many different brands). For the money they are hard to go past, but don't expect much from the brakes. The gyro system was never designed to work with a v brake, and you will not get adequate braking, even if you have good mechanical knowledge. Most common fix is to remove the gyro and run a single full length outer cable.

    • Which model are you referring to here?
