  • I'm definitely new to drones, but I'm toying with the idea of getting one. Why would I purchase the Spark over the Phantom 3? The Phantom 3 is cheaper and has a better camera. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    • +1

      Here is a comparison

      • Was literally just reading that. Thanks!

    • The difficulty is finding a cheap Phantom 3 Adv/Pro

    • if you're in Melbourne head down to TGE next weekend, there will be some good deal's on DJI :)

    • Phantom 3 is much bigger and heavier, thus if you are to fly outdoor you have less restriction. For example, you can fly much higher and further even if it is a windy day, whereas with spark, you can hardly fly too high or too far in a windy day due to its size and weight.

    • I have both, Phantom 3 Advanced and my dad has Spark and Mavic Pro. The Spark is great for small areas or for a quick fly. Great for chucking in a bag and going for a walk. The Phantom flies better in windy conditions. It is more set up for taking photos and videos. It goes further and faster and flies for longer, but the down side is that it's about 5 times the size. The Spark flies almost as soon as you plug the battery in and turn it on. The Phantom takes some setting up with assembly and warm up procedures it goes through.

They are not an easy pair to compare with each other, as it comes more down to what your intended use is for them. And I would say that the Spark would be better bought as the "Fly More" kit, as the base kit is just the drone and a charger. The Phantom i got came with everything and the only thing I have bought for it was 2 more batteries and a case to carry it with…

    • The Spark is the better choice for first time. It's stronger and lighter so even in massive crashes is a little less likely to break. A Spark will serve you well from beginner to advanced and the only reason to upgrade is to get a more video oriented, more stable and longer range platform. Spark is less obtrusive, more likely to be carried by you for a quick fly and cheaper if you do lose or destroy it. Get it with the remote control so you get the most range out of it and practice that will translate to another craft should you feel the need to upgrade later. I've found it does enough for me and I won't bother upgrading.

  • I'll wait until it drop its price to $600… but by the time Spark 2 probably out… Oh well..

  • Hmm not bad! Been flying race quads for a few years. This things look way more relaxing.
