The cashback isn't that great :(

  • Can you still get bonus points if you already have the St George Amplify Signature?

  • Do you get the points straight away or is there a minimum spend?

I have a $100 voucher for Virgin Holidays… incredibly hard to spend. Very inflexible and no bargains to put it mildly.

      I'll spend it for you

  • Thanks OP. $79 for 25K velocity points is a steal. And no minimum spend!

  • +2

Just chatted to them, you get the points after you spend the $500 so the $250 cashback and points will transferred to your account within 60 days.

    • So you need to purchase the Virgin Holiday to get the 25000 points?

      • Yep, here’s my chat with them - https://imgur.com/a/EaRUn

That's not what the T&Cs say. I think the rep was wrong.

        • +1

I'll give them a ring tomorrow morning and see what they say then.

        • @abanaT: I'd like to find out if that is the case, will apply if you don't need to spend the $500

Also, can the $500 be put towards flights?

          Tom

        • @TomMor: yes if I can just spend $500 plus on virgin flights for the two of us to go from Sydney to Adelaide return them it is worth it. Having to get a hotel at inflated prices negates the benefit.

  • +1

Thanks OP! I needed 17,000 more Velocity points to have 180,000 for return flights for 2 to the USA…..this does the job :)

The title is misleading. I would suggest adding that the $250 cashback is only on a AFL/Virgin Holiday spend. I know there's limited room though.

  • @denwol @puffinfresh @TomMor: Just rang them up, they had no clue about the offer he had to go ask his supervisor/manager, but came back and confirmed what the Twitter rep said, you must spend $500+ in one transaction at either AFL Travel or Virgin Holidays, then you get the $250 cashback and 25k points. Sucks cause I need the points badly. Oh well

They are 100% wrong. The T&Cs and the image on their page clearly show that they are separate offers. $250 cashback when you spend $500… blaa blaa blaa. 25k points when you opt in to Velocity. This happens all the time in banks; marketing doesn't speak to customer service/sales.

What I'd be more worried about is that 3000 Amplify points are needed before you can redeem a reward. How does 'opting in' to Velocity work? Can you do that straight up, or do you need to have 3000 Amplify points first?

      • +1

As I can't go into a branch (I'm in SA), I'm going to have to take the word of the two people I've spoken to. I agree with you that the T&Cs don't mention anything about spending the $500 before getting the points but after two different reps have said differently, I don't want to take the risk.

This is why i always take a screenshot of the T&C's and in this case the offer image as well. It clearly shows they are two separate and non related offers.
"25,000 Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Points when you opt in to Velocity Frequent Flyer via the St.George Amplify Rewards program" I went onto the chat line for the bank yesterday and was advised that there is no minimum spend for the velocity points and i just need to opt in once i receive the card and register for amplify rewards program. If i don't get this, i'll just contact them back and refer them back to the advertised T&C's :)

        • @blackjacknz:

Thanks for this! You don't happen to have a copy of your chat as well do you?

        • @abanaT:
          sorry..didn't think to keep it.
