  • Almost paid for one until I saw it is only 10/100.

Not going to make much of a difference unless you want to use it as a switch

Yes. But and if you are to take up NBN, how would you go for 100/40 NBN. Wouldn't if you were downloading at full speed and then some one decides to transfer a bunch of large files through the LAN, slow the downloads right down because of the lack of LAN bandwidth. You really do need Gigabit LAN. Quite useless these days in that case. You'd have to buy a Gigabit switch which is an extra expense.

I was assuming it was being used as a wireless bridge, crap chipset etc is unlikely to ever do 100mbps over wifi anyway

        • This thing is for plugging thing like your TV, bluray player, gaming console, pvr etc into if they don't have wireless. It's not the main router.

        • "if you are to take up NBN, how would you go for 100/40 NBN" - the Switch inside this bridge is effectively capable of 100/100. So more than capable of dealing out a 100/40 NBN connection.

Note also that this is a wireles bridge - it's for connecting wired-only devices to your WiFi network. Speed isn't really an issue for this use-case unless you stick your NAS behind it !

        • @Nom:

It's not about that, it's if you are sharing the router with multiple peoples in the household and they tend to transfer large files through the LAN slowing down your NBN downloads because of the limiting LAN bandwidth can't cope with NBN downloads plus LAN file transfers at the same time. So if you have NBN FTTP, don't use the inbuilt switch unless you're using a single PC only on the LAN.

    • It's a wireless bridge, meant for connecting your wired-only devices to a WiFi network. 100Mb is plenty for streaming video use etc. and probably faster than your internet connection.

  • These are excellent - bought one a few years ago which I've used to connect PVRs / PCs / gaming consoles etc to the internet.

    Slightly cheaper via Shopping Express:

    • Reviews say the wireless range is pathetic, what have you found?

      • Mine has always worked well - had it connected a few weeks ago to my iiNet Budii modem over WiFi through one brick wall about 10 meters away, and had no issue streaming 1080p videos and HD Netflix to my connected PVR.

  • What does this device do? I have TV and PVR that have only LAN ports but no WiFi, which are too far to connect a cable to the modem. Am I able to connect this device wirelessly to the modem and connect my TV to it using cable to access Internet?

    • Yep

      • Hi XeKToRex, I know it's a bit late to ask you (having already purchased) however for someone with basic technical skills is it difficult to set up? Thanks in advance …..

        • It's super easy - you will have it up and running within 5 minutes.

        • @kirt: Many thanks for your reply, full steam ahead!

        • @kirt: Thank you again, as advised the setup was soooo easy!! TV now connected to my home network …..

        • @WrightAnvil:

          Happy days :)

    • Thanks for your question, my same scenario. Based on XekToRex's reply have purchased one.

  • Does anyone know if this would work with an Xbox 360?

    • Why wouldn't it?

      • My networking knowledge is fairly limited so I wasn't sure if the 360's force you into using the microsoft xbox wireless adaptor or not. I vaguely remember reading something along those lines a few years ago when I looked into it.

        • But this is just using the ethernet port. MS would have no idea what's connected on the other end of the cable.

  • Was interested in this, but the reviews are pretty poor - https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Universal-Port-HDTV-Wireless/d…

Thanks OP, for $20 can't go wrong …. even if it does go wrong.

    • i have seen $2000 switches that do go wrong…. so $20 is a no brainer…

  • No DD WRT so not interested.

  • Arrived today, pressed the WPS button on my router and this guy, waited a minute, and it's working flawlessly. Pretty stoked, now to see if it'll last.
