  • Actually just noticed if you select HK-2 as the warehouse option it's cheaper still

    Grand Total AU$617.48

Cheaper than xiaomi website! using rate of 1AUD/5.3RMB

I know it's cheap but I really don't know about 4GB of RAM in 2017 - my 2012 laptop had that and I was uncertain about it then. Your browser will comfortably consume half of that on its own.

Use Firefox. It doesn't eat a GB of RAM per tab

      • +1

I use Firefox - it is still currently using 1.5GB RAM with 10 tabs open and will quite happily creep upwards of 2GB if I start doing something like HD streaming. It's usable but would be much improved with 8GB RAM, and it's not like websites are going to get less memory intensive with time.

  • 256GB AU$718.30. prefer windows, but CPU could be better.

damn. wish I didn't buy apple.

  • This is the '2nd gen' model of this laptop too, with the m3-7Y30 CPU. Has been very positively reviewed. Don't think you'll find anything with this build quality and specs locally for the price, at just over $600 it's a steal.

Only negative is dealing with Gearbest if you have warranty issues.

  • Is there a deal on the new 13inch one?
    http://www.gearbest.com/laptops/pp_648196.html?

Just tried 'NEWMIAIR13' and that works for a cheaper price on the Flash Sale price :)

  • The Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 13.3 256GB for $952 delivered is probably a better buy (don't forget cashrewards to make it a little cheaper)

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-Notebook-Air-13-3-256GB…

4GB/128 SSD doesn't cut it these days pay a bit more and get a higher spec

    • Depends on budget - you can also use 'NEWMIAIR13' and get the '2nd gen' for $1123

      • How can you tell which is the 2nd Gen one?

        • I may be wrong but from what I can see the one i've listed has the Intel Core i5-7200U vs the older i5-6200U of the Ebay listing in this thread

        • @urbancartel: I think i read somewhere that there was a different graphics card too but I cant remember

  • Got the 13" Xiaomi Air (first gen with i5 and no fingerprint sensor) and have been using it for about 1 month now. Bought from Gearbest for around AUD 890 and took less than 1 week to deliver to Perth.

I was after a laptop less than $1000, portable (sub 1.3kg), full HD screen and preferably 256gb SSD and this fit the bill. Impressed with build quality, backlit keyboard and overall performance so far. I use it mainly for excel, MYOB and internet browsing. I think the 12" version has less ports as well as other specs mentioned above.

Only downside is having to spend more on getting the English version of Windows 10 to override the Chinese version. No language patch or adjustment of settings would convert everything to English. Overall still cheaper than it's competitors though. I was considering a refurbished XPS 13,Latitude 12 and a 128gb SP4.

Could you not just use a key extraction tool, create a boot/install USB, and then reinstall from scratch in English using the same key?

    • To change the version to English for free you need to log into your Microsoft account on the Air 12, make a Windows 10 USB installation stick, overwrite the Chinese version of Windows with an English version, and then hit the “troubleshooting” button on the Windows activation screen.

Windows then checks the machine for a legit activation code, finds the one that shipped with the laptop, and bingo: a new, English, and entirely vanilla version of Windows 10 is activated.

      • I thought windows 10 is linked to hardware? You can reinstall without a key as long as the machine has had windows 10 installed and activated on it before.

          Quote:

Starting with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, your product key is no longer only attached to your hardware — you can also link it to your Microsoft account. This new change allows you to re-activate Windows 10 without having to contact Microsoft when you make significant changes to the hardware on your PC, including replacing the motherboard, processor, or hard drive.

Associating a Windows 10 license to a Microsoft account is actually an automated process if you're signing into your PC with a Microsoft account. But if you're using a local user account, you'll need to link your product key with your Microsoft account manually.

so there you have it, if the Windows that's running on the Xiaomi is outdated, all you have to do is upgrade it to the latest Creator's build 1703 (since v1511 is old), sign in and then do the above steps.

        • @scrimshaw:
Wait doesn't the above change mean you can switch comps entirely with the same license (transfer it over)?

It's always been linked to hardware for Windows 10, don't need to even update before you reinstall English windows…?

  • If you want the old Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 13.3 ~$850 delivered (~$780 if you get cashrewards) see:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/318062

    • Says $929.91 for me - was $850 the old price?

      • Its shows USD$$669 for me which is ~$850 according to google - but credit card rate may be more.

I have the cashrewards wrong its gone down to 3.2% so its only $25 - if it comes through.

  • Hi see many bag the recent deal on the macbook air,

but where battery life is a priority 6-7 hours this v's 12-15 (macbook air) screen res makes no diff when screen is off.

  • so is there a deal for the new 13" model i am after one at the moment, and if i cant get my hands on one i will have to buy it oversea in China when i go in October

  • I am wanting to buy the 13.3 inch version(https://www.gearbest.com/laptops/pp_648196.html).
I just got a few questions.

Do you think it will be offered at a cheaper over the next few days(it is $1071 AUD at the moment)? It is a pretty new laptop.
And I'll have to pay GST on this won't I as it is over $1000. Any way around that? The fees for that will be pretty extreme.

    • Anyone have any idea to get over that limit? They are running out.
I don't think Gearbest put on a random amount on customs decs do they?
Should I just wait until they get under $1000(will they though?)
