I think you were downvoted for practicality there, but pi jokes are always a winner!

      • does that mean the circumference of a circle will never joined as the number is infinitely long.

        • At a certain point the estimate is close enough, but technically no, if you look close enough a circle cannot be joined because we cant compute full pi.

        • @l3wis992:
So technically the formula (pi) can only give us an estimated figure and is not 100% accurate :).

        • @Bargain Zombies: when someone says pi, it's impossible to be 100% accurate. Our estimations are close enough that it doesnt matter, but an infinite number is - by its nature - incalculable.

Had a average time with zapals last time with the pi . the long post time is justifiable due to the location but the packaging was incredibily basic. About the same you would get with a 3 cent fidget spinner from bangood. you will probably get it fine but you may also have it arrived in 45 days destroyed

    • Agreed and therefore suggest paying with PayPal just to be sure.

  • +1

Have got from Zapals previously, yes takes time for cheap shipping, but arrived fine with full packaging.

  • Coupon Expired

    • Not expired, just checked it… Are you logged in?

      • +1

Oops, I picked up a wrong model (Chinese instead of UK) gave me "Coupon limit has been reached".
Picked the UK version fine. Thanks OP.
        Apology for the confusion.

  • +2

    Picked one up thanks.

looking forward to home assistant, plex, nextcloud and sonarr. hopefully not too much load for this little thing and also hopefully its not likely to become obsolete to software updates as my qnap nas has become.

    • +1

why dont you install debian on your qnap? works on almost all models for at least the past few years

      • whoa, this is really interesting. and appears mt device is supported. its a arm based ts-420 due to the arm version plex and some key dependancies for things like sonarr, nextcloud etc. are no longer supported from what i've tried.

but debian sounds like it would make it much more useful for me. I just need to figure if I need to format the drives in the nas in the process of installing debian?

        • +1

          @wingwang:

Thanks been looking into this. I will need a new drive first as I'm full up as (digital hoarding) right now but this sounds like its up my alley.

However I found I'll likely still run into the same problem on debian as the incompatability with the latest plex and other software lies in the armv5 architecture of my qnap. the RPi3 is an armv8 and seems pretty well supported at the moment.

Also, I figure if the pi cannot take the load running all the services, I can try to automate a wake on lan command for a more powerful/power hunger server to turn on when I arrive home/turn on the tv.

    • Sounds great…. Your QNAP must be really really old because my QNAP ts-212p that I bought several years ago still gets frequent updates.

      • +1

yeah, its getting os updates but I have just been frustrated trying to install third party apps. I figure a popular hardware/software platform will be the best bet to get everything I want working.

  • plus shipping OP
Apparently you have to pay extra for shipping now as its a high valued item.. (~$3.94 to QLD)

    • +1

The price shown in title includes shipping cost.

  • 4 weeks just sacred me off o.0

i dont mind pay a bit more, but want AU warehouse….

    • buy on ebay 54.99 - 10% cozzie coupon have it in your hands a day or two later, cheapest place in aus to buy from atm

      • thanks!

  • +1

I notice its been flagged as Expired - but I tried anyway and the coupon was accepted (US$6.01 off).

    Good deal +1

    • Not sure why this is being flagged Expired, but yes the coupon is still working.

  • Does the rPi3 require specifically a 2.5a power supply or would it be ok on a 2.4

Understand not much in it but if I had to buy another power supply I would regret buying as I don't really need it

    • I use a 2A one on one of mine no problems, depends what you're doing with it really. If you're connecting portable usb hard drives its gonna pull more power, if you use a crappy PSU… you can get freezing, slow downs, etc

that said I just bought a whole bunch of 3a USB samsung adapters on eBay for 2 bucks each delivered and they work perfectly fine

i power my pi model b from a 700mah phone charger

Thanks. Been looking out for a second one to be an always on Pi Hole and maybe Home Assistant.

$37.21 USD with a case, screwdriver and heat sinks added.

Arrived today so shipping was decent. Thin bubble wrap envelope didnt protect the Pi's box however, it's completely crushed. The board's in one piece so hopefully it works.

Zapals really need to put more effort into their packaging of fragile devices. A few layers of bubble wrap would make all the difference.
