  • Why do they always give you the best deal?

    • +2

He makes them an offer they can't refuse

    • +1

read the name again, slowly ;) how can they refuse that !

  • How can I not buy now?

  • +32

Thanks OP - tempting to grab another..

    Standard tips:

Apply Fang Hacks to stop it sending your feed to China and back, and turn it in to a neat little RTSP cam:
    https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks
Don't update the firmware when it arrives or you won't be able to use "Fang Hacks"
If you do update the firmware like I stupidly did - to downgrade you need a card formatted in FAT16 - luckily I had a 2GB card handy.

    • Thanks for the link.

    • +1

Will you still have the motion detection feature if you applied the Fang Hacks?

      • Asking the important questions +1

      • +1

Bear in mind that I'm just speaking from my own experience with it, but no motion detection once you switch. RTSP is just a stream with no intelligence

    • -1

Don't update the firmware when it arrives or do update?

      Thanks

      • +3

        don't

      • Don't update unless you are ok with it sending feed to China

    • +1

I heard this will open RTSP to the public unless you only use RTSP at home and block all ports. the whole world will have access to your cam including China. You still can connect the camera from the app after the hack btw.

    • +3

I really need to do this, but I only turn plug these in when I am going away for extended periods of time. More eyes watching my home the better.

      • Or you could use home assistant as a hub if you do not want to port forward the ipcam .

        • Is this what you mean? https://home-assistant.io/

        • @rorymeister: correct , however you need to spend abit of time to setup home assistant on your Raspberry Pi or PC , and configure the rstp stream on Home assistant.

        • @demoiree:

I'll add that to the list of things to do.

Will need another RPi though. Currently using one for my Hikvision setup.

          Cheers.

        • @rorymeister: apart from that you could also integrate HA with Xiaomi smart connected devices(gateway , yeelight etc…) you'll have a lot of fun integrating HA with xiaomi and most importantly! without breaking the bank.

        • @demoiree:

Currently using my Yeelight and these cameras as well as my Arlo cameras with IFTTT.

When motion detected, outside lights come on…

        • @rorymeister: the problem with IFTTT is there can be a few seconds lag , with local smart hub like the Home assistant the trigger is almost instant .

    • what app are you using to capture / view the trsp stream >?

    • Thanks

    • Can you still use the Mi home app to view livestream with this hack? Hesitant to update as I have other Xiaomi sensors integrated to the Mi home app.

      • +1

nope , no longer works for me , note that I did not disable the cloud mode.

        • Good to know, thanks.

    • What would be the actual issue with sending feedback to China?
Is it privacy or if it makes it slower?

Asking because I already have one and quite like the app & motion detector.
Only use it for Pet cam and such so if it is due to privacy issue I don't think I would bother to do the fang hacks.

    • Managed to find an old 1gb micro sd buried in an old Nintendo DS. woo.

    • In this instruction http://www.gadgetvictims.com/2017/04/rtsp-hack-for-xiaomi-mi… it doesn't include steps 1-3 from the instruction in your link. Wonder which one is better?

      • If you're using an SD card image - the partitions will sort themselves out. The second one should be fine.

        • So presumably I use an SD card image, I should start from step 4 of your instruction link, shouldn't I? Thanks

  • Great price, thanks for posting TA

when are we going to get a real wireless camera, with wifi for data and power ?

    • Netgear Arlo Pro

    • Best for now. No remote power transmission yet.

    The code dont work.

    • +1

You must be logged in and also must be in AU/NZ (iP address check).

      • Also same issue, logged in connected thru phone hotspot (workplace has US proxy)
        Still doesnt work

  • Thanks TA, bought one!

  • Awesome, can be used to monitor the cat.

    • my thoughts exactly

  • +5

Thanks, got one… not sure why… but did.

    • Monitor the cat (or your neighbour's cat?)

  • Do people use these as external security cameras at all?

    • Not sure how you would get power since there's no battery.

    • +1

That's what I'm thinking of too but from previous deal comments, they are ok for day, useless at night (apparently).

  • I bought 2 of these at $25+ last week. The deals just kept getting cheaper and cheaper.

Tomorrow it will probably be $15.

    • Hopefully, it'll be half the price next year

  • +3

The new eneloop of ozbargain. Got another one!

    • +1

wish eneloops could power this thing!

      • If you use three of the eneloops then they will be ok to power these.

  • Ty T-A, got one.

You want to tie Tightarse up?

  • Bought - thanks!
Still waiting on the other 2 I've bought…. hope they work well!

  • Bought. Thanks OP.

  • do i need this…. ughhh TA

  • how is their delivery time?

    • +2

If you choose unregistered air mail, be prepared to wait up to 5 weeks.

    • +3

15-35 days, or you can pay $2.20 for 7-15 days. Usually the express option is cheap and cuts shipping time way down.

On smaller items (not this one) you can pay like $0.30 for priority shipping so i tend to check gearbest when ordering from China since their shipping times can be much shorter.

  • Bought. I guess I can see all my ozbargain packages arrive now.

Can you use this for a colonoscopy?

Got one for $12.79 US from the TOMTOP deal last week, but this is a really great price. Nice one!

    • Agreed… The Tomtop deal was the lowest price yet, so long as you used all the new account signup points.

  • Got one, thanks TA.

  • All hail to tightarse! the tightestarse in all of ozbargain.

  • Got one. Not sure about the quality but will try.

  • i can see $24 price..adding coupon asks to spend $75 and increases the order value to $31.75

    • My order showed AU$19.66 at checkout (with expedited shipping) but charged my Paypal $34.19, something isn't right with their system.

      • While I don't believe that I've been maliciously overcharged, their system has an issue. They claim not to have received the $34 and would only issue a partial refund so I've had to open a Paypal dispute. (My other dealings with them have been ok).

  • Cannot believe I bought 3 @ $37 each just a few months ago!

  • +6

Thanks TA, this is my 5th one, should install it in my bathroom, in case some Chinese Government personnel wondering where I am.

  • Thanks, I got one. I don't know why, but I got one.

  • +1

I recieved one a week or so again from GB. Packaging of actual camera (not shipping packaging) appeared to have been opened and resealed. Not sure if this is standard for GB orders?

    • Probably to install custom firmware to serve you ads or something… They got to make money somehow :)

    • I bought 4 from them https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/312224 and all 4 arrived with seals broken and resealed with sticky tap.

      • At least it wasn't just my order then, lol.

  • +1

    Expired :-(

    • Yeah, I was mid checkout when the price went away :(

  • They still got those power banks on sale?
