  • Band 28 in tow?

    • +5

Yes - this phone does have band 28.

  • Oneplus is great.

    • +4

The first OP phone was actually great value, but the customer service is horrific. At least it was during the OPO-era. If something goes wrong and they're not an AU-seller, you're out of luck (though there may be avenues of recourse through PayPal or issuing a charge back via your bank). The price of the latest OP phones have bloated far beyond their original pricepoint.

      • The price of phones in general has bloated far beyond their original pricepoint.

My friend purchased from BuyMobileAU recently and they are the worst! If you're lucky and they have stock on hand they will send asap but most of the time they wont have and must ship it from overseas which will take a month. During this month they will lie to you continuously saying they will have it next week and ship. If you dont receive a shipping confirmation and tracking number within 3 days of order cancel your order ASAP

Or buy else where and save the headache

    • +1

Wow, sounds exactly like me vs gearbest very recently….

      • gearbest are a bunch of fools - last week I has an order cancelled with the excuse "your address is too remote, need to pay extra for shipping". FFS, I live in a capital city, it was a $4 small toy - I don't shop with gearbest any more, used to be my favourite online cheap shop, but too many cancelled orders when they don't want to ship.

    • +1

I have just purchased from BuyMobileAU, so I'll report here how the process goes. Fingers crossed!

      • Phone has shipped within 24 hours!

        • Hey mate, after reading some reviews for BuyMobileAU, I'll give you a pointer to take a video of you opening the parcel. I've heard things that they like to advertise phones as brand new, ship off a refurbed phone instead, then accuse the buyer for opening the box and lying about it etc. after getting the return back. I'm just advising that in case this happens and you need to make a PayPal claim.

I've just bought the 128gb version through them with this code, so fingers crossed that it all goes smoothly.

        • @zachwright95:

My OnePlus 5 that was ordered from BuyMobileAU (which has Amaysim on the invoice) was delivered into Sydney from Hong Kong in 6 days.

Two of those days it was sitting in customs in Sydney. Can't complain about that.

Thanks for the tip about videoing my opening the parcel. Just opened now and the phone is in a shrink wrapped box that all looks brand new. All good!

        • @ozpanda: No worries. Enjoy! I'm still waiting for them to ship mine which was purchased on the 20th. One day, haha.

  • +6

"I know it has its flaws"
    probably explain what are they….

    • -5

Or potential buyers could do their own research?

      • +3

own to each way but when i post i list or just give links to the specs, reviews, and other competitor prices.
unless they have been many similar deals posted previously (which you can link to that threads instead)

        • +21

A lot of people trawl this site, members and non-members, without ever making any contribution themselves.

If someone at least goes to the effort of posting a deal, I don't think they should be criticized for not posting additional links and information for the product to save someone the small amount of effort required to see if the product is right for them.

        • +2

          @aja12: I agree.

The alternative is the OP could've chosen to post nothing.

We owe each other nothing here so I think people posting deals, in general, is appreciated.

    • +2

I would say, if you've read this far, you are doing research. And how do you think these other 'research' results come about? People ask "What do you think of this phone?" in a forum, and others respond with their thoughts and experience.

      • +5

Yes, researching involves gathering information from various sources; websites, forums, people, videos etc. Not asking one person (who had at least gone to the effort of posting the deal) to list any flaws in the description of an ozbargain post.

        • -2

You'll have to explain to me what your alternative is to 'Not asking one person' is. It's either asking none… Or asking multiple, through which one must be asked first. Sorry, your logic is flaw'ed.

        • @Waynes world: Flawed logic or missed point? We're not on the same page. My point was that there shouldn't be a reliance on OP, who went to the effort of posting the deal, to list all the pros and cons of the device in the posts description. This point was made in response to a comment from another user.

    • +5

I agree with dragonindespair, let's have a quick run down of what these flaws are - this is the place to do it..

    • +1

      Jelly scrolling screen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2X50k9Bj9Y

Potentially caused by the display being put on upside down. OnePlus doesn't care and says it's functioning normally/within variance.

      • +2

Large amount of users don't even notice this at all.

    • +4

OnePlus are dodgy when it comes to benchmarks and stuff like that. Visit the AMA they did on reddit recently and you'll see why people dislike them so much. For me (OP2 owner), I hate them because they dropped software support on my phone so quickly, and aren't delivering on the promises made. I'm still on 6.0.1, so no Android 7. Before people say "you can run ROMs", a consumer shouldn't have to run roms just to stay on good software. It isn't unreasonable to expect solid software updates on a phone for 2 years.

In relation to the OP5, it has an issue with the screen having "jelly scrolling", I think that's what the post was referring to

    • +1

I'm still on my OnePlus One, have zero reason to upgrade. These phones are solid!

  • Can you use this purchase for TRS?

    • +1

Ships from HK, doubt u get a GST invoice.

  • Is Vaya much better as an option? I heard there were issues with past deals on phones from Vaya.

  • Great price!

  • +1

Is it just me or that looks similar to an Iphone 7+

    • +1

      Doesn't carry the apple logo;)

      • +1

someone in china should have just created a company called orange.
problem solved - now people will have 2 options apple or orange logo.
everything else (from outside) the same

        • +2

But then you couldn't just compare apples to apples…

  • This or LG G6?

    • I was in the same predicament and went with the Dual Sim G6. Best decision ever.

      • The OP5 is also dual sim, just to clarify if there is anyone confused by your comment.

        • +2

          I'm still confused. Why G6?

        • +1

          @dajackal:
I hate LG and would never buy any of their products. Source: I used to work in retail for consumer electronics and dealt with LG products.

        • @teeby: I've been burnt before too (LG G3). I love that wide angle on the L6 though :(

        • +1

          @dajackal:

My choices were S8/G6/Op 3T/OP5 (had s8 plus before this)

I also did my research on the bootloop etc, seems to be nonexistent. I would rather choose the 3T over the OP5 though if I never went with the G6 as OP5 has too many issues. OP5 camera is also overrated and doesn't even come close to the G6. Would have gotten the S8 but couldn't justify the $400 difference other than a half generation newer snapdragon.

        • +1

          @jayzorz: Nicely put!

        • @dajackal:

Also, plenty of G6 vs OP5 videos on youtube. All pretty much the same conclusion. One example below.

          https://youtu.be/foxSHJbe_g0

        • +1

          @jayzorz: You switched from S8+ to G6?

        • @jayzorz: thanks for the link! G6 it is! And it's cheaper to boot!

        • @ilikeradiohead:

Yes,had a 30 day free return from optus. Too big for my liking. S7 edge size was perfect. The tall body of the s8 plus was way too long. Can just imagine the size of the Note 8.

Lg G6 even better form factor, although it can't compete with the s8 edge screen its still pretty good

        • @jayzorz: lol, I thought I was the only one the swapped from an S8+ to a G6. I absolutely loved the Samsung, but with my work and lifestyle, it was only a matter of time before I broke it. Most of the used S8's on eBay have damaged screens. Agree on the G6 form factor, it's perfect for me.

        • @aja12:

G6 is definately the most underrated phone. Never thought I'd say something about an LG phone lol. Buy a QC 3.0 charger if you haven't :)

        • @jayzorz: Yeah, the included charger is crazy slow!

    • +3

G6 for camera, DAC, water proof and wildy cheaper, better ergonomics.

This for speed, battery, amoled screen.

      • Youtube vids also show pretty water resistant results on OnePlus 5.

        • Yeah but can you submerge it like you can in the g6? Thing can take shots underwater. It's certified ip68.

    • +1

I'd say go with LG G6 cause you can get an Australian charger & warranty while Oneplus don't provide australian chargers

      • +2

        Get an adaptor for $1.

    • +1

G6 has a better screen. But the SoC is better on this. I prefer a screen myself, but you might be different.

    • If possible wait for the v30

      • +1

        V30 is way too big

    • +2

Found a deal on one? I'm looking

    • +3

I wanted to buy the G6 but LG's refusal to unlock bootloaders outside of EU and T-Mobile US means they will not get any business from me. I know not everyone runs custom ROMs but for me having that option is important.

      • Really wish I could upvote you more than once. Unlockable bootloader + bootlooping were the biggest problems with the G4, looks like the bootloop is fixed in later series, but why oh why does LG still refuse to unlock the bootloader in the G6 and let non-EU and non T-Mobile customers run whatever software they like? It might seem like some obscure moot geeky point when the phone is new, and the software is pretty current, but when it's 2 years old, and the manufacturer has totally moved on to new handsets, and you want the latest Android, or even just basic security updates, it is bad news.

  • -8

Cheaper here $551.99 from BuyMobileAU…. roll the dice for customer service!
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OnePlus-5-Dual-SIM-64GB-4G-LTE-/2…

    • This is already mentioned in the OP

  • +2

I was hoping to get a OnePlus after having Nexus 6p for just over a year. I think both Google and OnePlus follow same strategy when it comes to support (updates).

I think it is properly pointed out in their motto: NEVER SETTLE! (buy the new phone every year)

    Read this review: https://www.xda-developers.com/despite-controversies-oneplus…

  • +1

Great phone beautoful display, despite not qhd. Get 128 if you can afford as no SD slot. Black is beautiful. Read XDA forum 4 information & good accessories/ user input.

  • -2

good price for the iPhone 7 plus

  • For what I am looking for almost there…

    SD 835…tick
    6G/8G ram…tick
    dual cam…tick
    Under $600…tick

Large screen (6 inch plus)… Nope

Guess I will have to wait for Mi Mix II, don't think it can be have for $600 though :(

    • +1

Lol get the v30. It'll have band 28, and is a lg so it'll be under 600 by early next year. You won't even have stock of mix 2 till mid next year.

      • Nah… too scare of "LG QUALITY" although I have not experience myself.

Also it has not been confirm that the dual cam solution on V30. Don't know why LG kept staying with that stupid wide normal setup when the whole world is doing portrait mode.
        .

My Ideal phone will be a Zenfone 3 Ultra with Dual 12mp rear cam setup.

        • Lol portrait mode is meh. You can emulate it with some manual tweaking. Wide camera is a much cooler solution.

But sure, wait for the mix.

        • I was similar with the LG quality but the G6 really changed my mind. V30 is a really massive phone

          http://mobiledevicesize.com/compare/#677,814,749;1

        • @jayzorz: v30 is using an infinity display at 18:9, so I'll be similar size as the s8+.

The one you linked is v20

    • -1

No b28 on Xiaomi, and we all know no b28 = no buy.

      • Not another B28 again…. don't know why you guys get so anal about it.

It may be on many OZB's tick list but I can't give a crap about it.

        • +1

All of the major players (Telstra, Optus and Voda) use B28 for their 4G (Telstra 4GX) coverage.
Not only does it boost speed but it boosts signal significantly indoors and in built up areas.

        • @hybridx: they still receive 4g even without band 28 dude. It's just that it's not the highest speed version. I can still get 1mbs on my mi5.

        • Depends where you live and which network you're on. I live near several Telstra 4G(X) only towers

        • @Wonderfool: you get 1mbs on your mi5? that's woeful. I just did a test and got 28/24 at my desk, inside a building where I don't get great reception.

Edit: on my OPO with no b28, so I'd expect better than that when I get my OP5 with b28

        • @Domingo: I'm talking about megabyte. I have the download rate at top.

          Test says it's 8mbs/5mbs

    • same here i need over 6"

      • +1

        That's what she said ;)

  • +1

Are these phones still special or just another Android phone?

There was a time you needed an invitation just to buy one. Are they still believing their own hype, or can you walk into a store and pick one off the shelf now?

  • +1

I have the OP5 128gb 8GB. Going on 1 month now. Experienced no issues at all. Excellent battery life, amazing camera for photo and 4k video. Very fast phone. At first it was strange moving away from iphone, but I quickly got used to it. I'm loving dual sim (because I have/had a work phone and a personal phone).. now I have sold my personal phone, gave my work phone to my wife (who also sold her iphone) - in the end, we are ahead financially by me getting this phone!

  • +1

I also have the OP5 128Gb, got it on launch day. Moved from a Nexus 6P and it is pure awesome. Mine sadly came with the Chinese ROM but it was pretty painless to put on the international ROM instead. I bought from Ibuygou and was pretty painless. Had to pay $30 for delivery but it arrived on release day so can't complain.

  • Does this come with an Australian phone charger?

    • +1

      Nope. This isn't AU stock.

    • +1

Actually that is one downside… my charger runs through an adaptor - DASH charging still works fine though.
I figure most people charge via USB these days anyway.. only downside is the 'dash charge' technology is in the actual charger, meaning if you dont use it, it wont charge as fast. not a big deal.

  • +1

I bought this phone right after it was released… returned it within a few days of usage. I couldn't stand the jelly-scrolling effect. I showed it to my family members and they too noticed it… although whether one will be bothered enough by the flaw is another matter (in my case, it did).

    • I have no idea what this 'jelly' thing is that people on the internet talk about… had my OP5 for a month now, no issues at all and couldnt be happier.

I thought it was internet propaganda started by rivalry companies lol.

      • Good for you! If one can get over the jelly-scrolling, or better yet not see it at all, then it is the best phone I have ever used, by far.

        • -1

There's nothing to get over lol.. fakenews

        • -1

          @teeby:
As I said, if one can get over OR better yet NOT SEE IT AT ALL… you belong in the latter category, which is great!

But as far as fake news is concerned, I stand firm by my statement and observation.
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2X50k9Bj9Y

        • @sanriopurin:
          There's nothing TO see.
Fake news.. I stand by my comment

  • I just asked Vaya and BuyMobileAU about their shipping times:

Vaya: We ship our devices from our warehouse in Hong Kong. Our standard delivery time frame once order is placed is 2-7 days for handling then shipping will commence. It takes 2-5 business days to deliver the item from the warehouse to your address via Toll and 1-2 business days via FedEx. Other more regional areas are usually between 1 to 5 days depending on remoteness.

BuyMobileAU: We source our items internationally and we ship offshore from our warehouse in Hong Kong. Delivery time to Sydney depends on shipping method. Standard takes around 11 business days and around 9 days for express. Once you place the order it will go through verification. As soon as payment has been verified, we will forward your order to the warehouse for processing and fulfillment which usually takes 1 to 4 days. Once shipped, handling time for standard shipping is 2 to 7 days and 1 to 5 for express.
"What shipping service is chosen if I purchase via your eBay store?": We either use Toll or DHL and tracking details will be sent via email once item is dispatched from the warehouse.
