  • the cost vs the time you wait for a normal 2.5" HHD to copy files over isnt worth it.

sustained write speeds have never been too much of an issue for hard drives :).. my top of the range SSD is only 2 times as fast when moving a single 1GB files :)

most of the time the PC is the limiting factor .. not all PC's can move files at 500MB's a second even if usb 3.1 c can

So your saying it's not worth it?

    • Yeah this price is pathetic. I'd much rather purchase a 3TB 2.5" HDD and enclosure and save a cool $300.

      • Maybe these are good for travelling with?

        • +2

These are good devices, but they're niche devices. If you have a large working set that you need to move between machines or work on from different machines, can't use mechanical drives in your environment, or a similar need, then they're great. Their small physical size doesn't hurt either.

        • @atj:
Agreed, great for moving a lot of data very fast on a regular basis if you need pocket size.
For all else USB3 thumb drives or external hard disks would be better.

  • Probably will see these drop in price further now that they will be replaced by the T5 at the same price point.

    • T5? What's the difference in models.

      • T3 450MBps, T5 540MBps
        T3 USB 3.1 gen 1 (5 Mbps), T5 USB 3.1 gen 2 (10Mbps)
Bottom line about 20% speed improvement.

        • wouldn't that be Gbps?

        • @Jetship: right you are. Having a 540MBps drive on a 10Mbps interface would be more than silly haha. It's 10Gbps as you point out.
