    Looks dodgy and sounds dodgy

    • +1

agree but how does it get through onto 'spotlight deal', surely ebay would have stopped it if it was a scam, always got paypal protection, $1 punt

      • could be a seller created by ebay I guess

      • +3

paypal protection isnt all that it is soundded to be

    • Looks and sounds like Saul Goodman trying to sell off his excess airtime.

  • It's legit as it's on the eBay's deals page….but it's certainly am amateurish listing.

  • For a $1, it's worth a punt.

  • +1

$1 punt can always dispute if its a scam

That's not the issue or the actual scam, they do this to harvest viable email addresses.

    • -1

Who cares if they get your email address?

      • +3

Spammers care, there's been a ton of these sort of things where they sell $1 items to get emails.

Email addresses are used and sold by scammers, and nothing is better than PayPal email addresses as they are usually current.

Disclaimer: I have no idea if this is an actual scam, but it certainly seems suspicious.

        • -3

How does buying this also steal your paypal password?

        • +2

          @Orpheus:

I never said a thing about passwords, they do it to phish for viable email addresses, either to send spam or to onsell to spammers.

  • +2

Gave it a shot and the receiving account's Paypal email address is "[email protected]" so it looks like it's legit. That's a pretty amateur listing though.

  • Posting Guidelines on eBay Items

Non-reps / regular users are able to post deals only if the seller is a Top Rated Seller.

A top rated seller meets the following eBay standards:

Must consistently earn top ratings from eBay buyers for delivering excellent service, posting items quickly for a reasonable price, and providing accurate item descriptions.
Must sell $3,000 or more and complete a minimum of 100 selling transactions on eBay every year.
Are regularly reviewed by eBay for compliance with these standards.
An exception is where the seller already has an online store. In this case, the deal can be posted if the 'alternative store domain' (under the deal URL) is set at the time of posting.

seller has 2 feedback. hardly a top rated seller

    • +2

If the seller has only 2 feedback but is eBay themselves, that would make it ok in the spirit of the rules wouldn't it? i.e. the point of the guidelines is to try and weed out unscrupulous sellers to protect us.

eBay really should take a more professional stance and maybe sell it from a more official-looking account. But seeing that it's listed as a spotlight deal and the seller's paypal email ends in ebay.com, it does look legit.

    dont forget cashrewards.

    • +2

      Doom……..There goes my 1.3c

  • +8

I just called ebay support to check, and operator checked and confirmed with her manager that it's a legit deal.

  • +4

Ebay au is an unscrupulous seller - what standards?

Fake sales, ignores terms and conditions, ignores oz consumer law - I mean seriously.

Top rated sellers pay for ebay protection.

  • Is there a limited time for when you have to sell?

    • +4

"Eligible Participants must list and sell an item within 30 days of receiving the notification from eBay to receive the waived selling fees subject to this offer."

  • +2

Thanks for the post, possibly selling my computer hrmmm

  • -6

Can’t use it to sell my car, it’s useless

  • +2

Make sure to triple check the terms and conditions. I always get stung by these deals and end up paying the fees.

  • Seems an odd way of going about it but I pulled the trigger anyway. Let's see what happens.

  • +1

I assume if your item gets no bids and nobody ends up purchasing it you'll be losing that 1 buck?

    • +1

Yeah - it's a "gamble" that you'll sell something more than $10 within 30 days. You can always use buy it now, or get a "friend" to buy it off you.

      • +2

You can always use buy it now, or get a "friend" to buy it off you.

…just to give PayPal 3%, and a dollar to eBay? :)

        • +1

I guess only helpful if you still have a targeted voucher you need to use up

    • That's the way I read it.

  • Has anyone tried getting ebay to send a message or email to confirm the core of the deal, so they have written evidence if they need to dispute ?

  • NOTE: you must use paypal, and pay paypal fees, so "Don't Pay Fees" is a bit lot dishonest.

  • What value item would I need to sell to make this worthwhile?

    • Anything more than like $10. FV fees are just under 11%.

  • +5

this is very good value for high priced items such as kidneys

  • +5

Great chance for some eBay sellers to buy from eBay… and then leave NEGATIVE feedback for every time they've wanted to do so for their behaviour or wanted to neg a bad buyer but couldn't. Worth $1 if you can do that :-)

  • what does this mean?

"Good ‘Til Cancelled listings created during the Promotion Period will be eligible for the promotion only until the listing automatically re-lists"

That if I list an item to sell and it doesn't sell within 30 days, but I have it to auto relist, so that when it auto re-lists, from that point on the promo no longer applies??

  • +6

In case anyone is still sketchy about it, I hit up eBay.com.au on Facebook and they just responded that it's legit.

  • what happens if you try to buy two?

    • Limit of one payment of $1.00 per person.

  • I might have missed it but can you use a Buy It Now style auction for this promo?

    • This offer applies to listings in Auction-style or Fixed Price format, but does not apply to listings in Classified Ad format.
This promotion does not apply to “Excluded Categories” which include Businesses for Sale (11759), Aircrafts (63676), Boats (26429), Caravans/Motorhomes (32633), Cars (29690), Motorcycles (32073), Trucks/Commercial Vehicles (6049), Real Estate (10542), Services (316), Flights (3253), Tickets (1305), Travel (3252) and Vouchers/Gift Certificates (172008).

So yes, you can use on a "Buy It Now" listing.
