Not Ultra HD (pretty much the standard these days, as even Soniq etc are doing it), no 4K, no upscaling, and no HDR.

This isn't a bad thing, but just putting it out there that this unit is a few years old now in specs.
I'd probably go an Ultra HD 55" Soniq (which is a 2nd Gen Samsung/Lg panel, so better than the above). Picked up one for $600 delivered recently and very happy with it.

Dont get me wrong, I LOVE Panasonic (the Soniq replaced a 50" Panasonic plasma that lasted almost 10 years), but its still not that great a price considering the lineup and pricing of the competition. Have a shop around at the sub $1000 price point before pulling the plug on this one.

before pulling the plug on this one.

I think you meant before pulling the trigger. As in pulling the trigger on the starter pistol to get things underway.

Pulling the plug means flushing it down the drain as in by pulling the drain plug.

Or he probably means pulling the plug off his existing tv

        • yep… my bad :).

Pulling the Trigger is what I meant ;)

In my opinion, a good 1080p screen looks much better than a cheap 4k screen.

That's what I thought as well dexx.
But took a gamble on the Soniq and I was very impressed.
My Panasonic plasma was a damn good TV. Still reviews very highly on product review 8 years after release.
And I reckon the Soniq I got recently beats it (was one of the cheapest 'nastiest' 4k 55" tv I could find), and with a $750 budget it definitely scored a win with me ;).

Not sure if this is such a great price. I got my samy 55 inch uhd tv for $920. This seems a bit too much for just a fhd.

    • That was my thoughts. It's not like its a 'bad' deal, its just not a good one considering its specs.

I can definitely see a purpose for it and would probably even get one (like for the rumpus or guest bed or something where HD only was ok), but it would have to be far cheaper than this. Good name brand, has stacks of goodwill in my books, but not at this price.

Really? Six months ago the 55" 4K Samsungs were going for $1098. I didn't need a TV then. Now I need a TV and all the Sony or Samsung 55"s are around $1495… drops to about $1250 with discount codes, but still waiting for a price drop closer to the $1000 mark.

      Any deals you know of?

November was the best time for TV deals last year. Maybe hold out until then if you can?

      • +3

If you can wait a couple of months, there are always good deals towards late November leading up to Christmas. Keep a look out for TGG sales.

      • Same here mate, you're not alone.

  • Bit expensive.. Got a 55" FHD hisense for $200 less a few months ago

  • Hisense UHD are a better buy when on special at this price..
