Cygnett Dashview Universal Car Mount $7 @ Harvey Norman (Click and Collect)

60

Cygnett brand dashview universal car mount for $7 @ Harvey Norman (Click and Collect). Normal price is $15. Better quality than non-branded eBay ones which are generally available for a similar price and often take more than 20 days to get delivered. From my experience, none of the car mounts is of 'great' quality and they all lose suction over the time, but if you are up for trying a branded one, this looks like a good deal.

the problem with these is they only open 80mm, which is as wide as a Samsung Note 4 (5.5" screen) without a case. SO you have to remove the case to plonk it in.

I tried it way back. Same as the $3 eBay ones.
Works at first, but soon fails if you park in the sunlight in summer.
They are also very awkward to get the phone in. Needs two hands. And if you try to plug in a charging cable, phone is likely to fall out.

I threw mine out and got a plastic case for my model phone for a few dollars.
Then attach case to dash with a bracket. Phone easily clips and and out with one hand.

I miss the days when you could buy a proper cradle for your Nokia.

Would you have a link for your new plastic case?

    • Like you said, I too found it really awkward to get the phone in.

Maybe it's just me. It is really challenging to reach with both hands to one side windscreen while holding the phone and trying to spread the clamp.

You can buy a similar mount in Kmart for $4

If they "lose suction" just take them to the kitchen and scrub the sticky pad really hard with a brush and water. Really hard. Usually rescues them.

    • I use lemon to clean the suction pad and it work like new

    • I put lip balm around the outside edge of the suction cap on my dash cam and works a treat for it when it stops sticking.

…And hope that it doesn't lose suction with your $900 phone is inside of it while you're driving.

Do not buy this mount, quality is poor and fails very quickly overtime. Been stung from bad experience.

        +1 to that.
mine un-wined and the spring popped out.
that was when it was brand new out of the box.
very difficult to open the jaws to put your phone.

  • Can someone recommend a good one please? Has to be mounted on the windscreen or the CD player (if you know what I mean)

    • No no no. that's not an approved mount. That's a heft fine.
