the colours pictured remind me of sewerage colour

        Reminded me of filthy sausages.

    • They are great quality.

Merrel don't seem real big in Australia, if it helps I've had a pair (different model) for 4-5 years now and they have been beaut shoes!

    • +1

Much bigger brand in the USA - very good quality in my view and I've had heaps over the past 20 years.

yep super great shoes. I only ever get these shoes for casual wear. Many moons ago, on holiday in Canada I was forced to get new shoes when my current pair of runners developed a big hole in the sole during their rainy season. Merrell where the ones the fit best, and Ive never looked back since. I normally get 3 or 4 years of wear out of Merrells.. I have 3 pairs at the moment. First thing to wear out is the heal on the inside, but thats only since I get lazy and dont undo/do my laces.. I never had issues with holes in the sole or ungluing with these.

      • Depends where you live. Theres a couple of stores in the local plaza that stock a decent range of Merrell, and they are busy. My wife wears their sandals daily, but at $170 a pair Im not surprised they arent common.

        She loves them though.

edit: must have hit wrong reply button, not directed at you darkage. Was meant for hoxy…

They sure look like Dad shoes.

    • and you can make Dad jokes while wearing them.

    • I am a dad but I have kids size feet :(

    • Yep, they are now…

I too can vouch for the quality of Merrell shoes. I've had mine for over 2 years now and wear them almost daily. They are very strong and have no signs of wearing. When they do finally give up the ghost, I'm replacing them with another pair of Merrell boots.

Another one for this brand - took four years of daily use and the sole finally wore through and replaced them with another pair quick smart. I paid about $170 I think at the time, but they weren't as colourful as the listed pair!

  • Merrells are fantastic shoes.
I bought a pair of hikers in late 2010 for a working holiday abroad. 50 odd countries and 7 trips later they're still going great, despite the absolute abuse I've thrown at them.

Review - I bought a pair of these Burnt Rock shoes a few weeks ago with another retailer (15% off ebay!) The colours aren't as garishly bright as in the photo! The sole is for gentle hiking only - if you need tread, Merrell have plenty of other models for climbing.

My previous pair of Merrells I wore in the hills of Canada and Spain and they lasted 4+ years. If you're not used to walking shoes like Keen or Merrell, they're very sturdy and comfortable - provide much better support than a sneaker designed for athletics. I wear them about town because they provide good support for one's ankles - footy injury!

edit: The "Outright Edge" model seems to have better tread than the Burnt Rock, from the photo. Not a fan of the orange, so I'll pass this time!

  • Are the Merrell shoes measured in US sizes or UK sizes? They helpfully include a sizing conversion popup, but the page stupidly doesn't say what size the Merrell shoes are. Can we assume they are US sizes?

  • Looks like Ray's Outdoors has closed a lot of outlets. They were closing a store in Gold Coast when I visited there around a year ago, and now SA only has one store in the northern suburbs (so click and collect not worth it, considering it might take me at least 45 mins to crawl along Adelaide's highwayless inner city roads to get there).

I don't understand why the owner decide to close Rays instead of BCF. I notice more customers shopping at Rays instead of BCF.

I love merrell because they suit my narrow feet (particularly narrow heel). For people with wider feet you may be better off considerring some of the keens on clearance.

    • goddammit, where were you several hours ago when i was reading the thread and not adding items to cart. its all your fault!

  • Can you use the quicksilvers' for swimming?

I've been wearing my Merrell shoes for years. They are great quality and last forever.
If your order is >$100 you can get $10 off with the code RAYSAU10.
So, you can buy both Burnt Rock and Outright Edge for just $108 ($54 a pair). This is really cheap!
And as you are buying them from brick and mortar retailer, can exchange or refund without hassles.

    • damn you. again, could have been helpful when i was ORDERING

      oh and don't forget cashrewards.

    • Cheers, got the shoes, a pair of $2 socks and a $39 soloman jacket for $90 delivered.

Nice find OP! Can confirm that Merrell's are great. I've been happy with the Merrell shoes that I've owned over the years. Great quality and comfort.

If you wanted to get the Burnt Rock, another option would be to buy from their eBay store and use the PINCH5 code for an extra 5% off (I think the COZZIE code has expired). Shipping for me was also $2 cheaper via eBay compared with the actual site. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Merrell-Burnt-Rock-Casual-Shoes-M…

  • Merrells quality is second to none. If they're on sale I grab a few :)

  • Merrell are so good, they stopped my wifes nagging.

I have had 3 pairs of merrell's since buying my first pair of mix master moves in the US 4 years ago. Great comfort, durability and a wide toe box make them perfect for general hiking and trail running. While I haven't used these ones my view would be that at this price, and given Merrell's legendary comfort these are a great price for a pair of all purpose sneakers.

The stand out shoe buy for me in the Ray's sale though is the Salomon Evasion 2 GTX at $119 - less than half price. If you are a comfortable all-terrain waterproof hiking shoe with goretex uppers, wide fit and a removable comfort ortho footbed -(and in a subtle go anywear colour combo) these are a bargain.

  • Thanks OP, just phoned the local store and walked out with ROCKs and EDGE Hikers too.
Ordered a 2nd pair of the EDGE hikers for my son from the online store as the local were out of his size…

Merrell have made good shoes for years, the pictures don't do them justice. Glad the fashion victims didn't cotton on. ;)

  • Merrells do great quality kids shoes too

  • In the end I just couldn't cope with the colours of the Burnt Rock!

Ended up ordering the Outright Edge Hiking Boots and the Versent Leather Casual Shoes.

$128.00 with free shipping - a pretty good price!

With the New Balance shoes I bought last week, I'm set up for years now!
