Garmin Australia - Garmin Epix $199 or $249 with Australian TOPO Lite Maps RRP $799/ $849 - Father's Day Exclusive Offer

130

I've posted these on sale from the States before. This time they are local Australian stock.

Do you want full colour maps on your wrist and look rad? IMO this is an absolute bargain if it's what you need. Think of this watch as the hikers 'Fenix' but no built-in heart rate (can use external). Perfect for camping, hiking etc. To my knowledge it's the only wearable device capable of topographic maps.

Touch screen
GPS
GLONASS
Barometric altimeter
Compass
Accelerometer
Thermometer
8GB memory

What's the difference?

epix™ with TOPO Lite Australia and New Zealand Maps

Featuring TOPO Lite Australia and New Zealand Mapping, this variant provides enhanced topographic detail from terrain contours, elevations and summits to coverage of lakes, rivers and streams.

A quick quote from username: lordsugar "Note that this watch has been abandoned by Garmin since last year, with no further firmware updates and a number of outstanding (though not critical) bugs in the last firmware, hence the cheap prices. Still the cheapest way to get a GPS watch with maps though"

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2017.

  • Oh, damn you're quick! I was in the middle of editing my deal when it suddenly suggested it was a duplicate of yours!

However, you've jumped the gun and posted the ebay details in the description from your last deal into this Garmin-direct deal!

    • Just good timing brother! I just received the email and had the computer on ozbargain.

Pretty normal price if you buy it on US ebay, it is $169 US.

    • US version has US maps

  • Any other options you would recommend? I was looking at the etrex 20X and get the topo maps from eBay. Anything cheaper and better?

I have the eTrex 30 (not the X model). Awesome GPS with great battery life. I'm pretty sure the only difference is with the newer X model is a higher res display which you don't really need. You should be able to find a 20 (no X) cheap on Gumtree of eBay.

Garmin eTrex 10 + maps in OSM format? I use it for cycling and hiking and I like it much more than my Garmin GPSMAP 62s. The main disadvantage is 8 MB of internal memory.

You can get Amazfit Pace cheaper at about 130aud. It has HR monitor, Bluetooth, notifications, music control…
but the maps aren't as detailed. And it is only waterproof to 1m rather than 50.

  • if it interfaced to a bike speedo this would be ideal ….

  • I have the Amazfit Pace but am considering getting this one because it is more waterproof, currently has better maps and probably has better reception.

    • It's a shame this one doesn't have HR monitor. I've been hoping someone will release some good HIIT software that can be customized to my desired HR levels.

  • Can anyone comment on how good this watch is for tracking runs and or sleep?

    • This is really for bushwalking/hiking/camping (maps). For general fitness and sleep, you really want the fenix 3HR or better.

      • I enjoy both activities regularly. It would be great to have the one watch to track both. … And on detailed maps.

        • Technically, I guess you could use an external HR monitor and then I think it would do everything you're after.

  • OH God I wish it played Donkey Kong. I had a similar looking Nintendo thing in the 80's.

What are the bugs in the latest firmware?

  • Has anyone actually been able to buy one using the buggy website that is linked?

    • Well considering Fathers day is over there is a chance the deal is no longer on.

The deal still appears to be on but there's no "buy" button, only a "find a dealer" button that doesn't work. I suspect because we are outside the US.

        It's working now

The "find a dealer" button shows nearby stores that sell Garmin products but none of the stores near me stocked this particular watch. One of the stores did however give me a phone number to buy the watch directly from Garmin. The phone number is 1800 235 822. I just got off the phone with Garmin and I can confirm that the above prices are still valid. My watch will be delivered within 2 weeks. They have a 12 month warranty and I should call the same number if I have any problems with it.
