Came across the Xiaomi Wireless Router 3 Dual Band on Lightinthebox. No experience buying from these guys but the price is dirt cheap. I just bought one from eBay for $36 so I'm spewing about the price. Features 2 x 100mbps ports, 1 x WAN connector, 1 x USB2.0 port. Works as a normal router or wireless repeater. Pretty painless to set up especially as a wireless router. Skip using the app and just set it up using a computer/browser as it's much easier that way.

I originally got this as I wanted to use the router to backup videos automatically from my XiaoFang cameras. I can't seem to get the function working so appreciate any tips if someone else manages to get it working. Router has a built in Torrent client from what I can understand.

  • How does the wireless repeater work? Is it any good?

All you have to do is plug in the router in another part of your house, set it to connect to your existing wireless network, it creates another wireless network with '_plus' appended to the name. You can rename this to be the same name as your existing wireless network and therefore devices will 'roam' onto the stronger network as you move throughout the house.

      • Devices will not 'roam' for repeaters. It will stay on the current network until it drops out, which is when it connects to strongest network.

          Actually that's not true

        • @p3nf0ld: Source? The Xiaomi product is not specifically made to roam.

        • @gorillainwild, @p3nf0ld: You are both right and wrong in a way. Wi-Fi roaming is decided by the client and not the APs, but the amount of signal an AP sends out directly influences the clients' decisions. Client and AP support for optional protocols is another factor. See https://blogs.cisco.com/wireless/wi-fi-roaming-101 for a roaming experiment.

  • You may want to fix the description - there are 2x 1Gbps ports, not 100Mbps. It is mising bit of other info (i.e. MIMO, wave 1 or wave 2 ac, etc) but for this price - you buy and test, in any case it will most likely be better than any cheap 802.11n access point.

    • pretty sure the LAN ports are 100Mbps.
The 1Gbps refers to the wireless speed.

        right there

Two 10 / 100M adaptive LAN port (Auto MDI / MDIX)
        A 10 / 100M adaptive WAN port (Auto MDI / MDIX)

      • After reading through, this is actually the newer version which has gigabit lan ports rather than the stupid 100mbps lan ports on their previous models.

      • 1Gbps refers to the wireless speed

140 MB per second wifi, seems legit.

    • No gigabit LAN, hence the reason I on-sold mine.

  • showing as $26.40 aud for me

    • Pay as USD to get about $24. But USD 9.84 shipping killed deal!

  • i brought one for about 34 shipped, they got a new G version that has more powerful antenna to convert you and other creatures that can hear the noise to be zombies lol
the 5G feature on mine wasnt working too well it seems, even xiaomi phone dont managed to hook to it soon as going away for 7 meters in another room. so it is as bad as other 5Ghz routers such as my HELLSTRA modem

the downloader feature may not work well given it has to access server in china…
otherwise it is pretty good, even better if one has likes of those webcams

  • Showing up with 13.70 postage for me. No deal from me.

  • Minimum shipping cost is $7.79USD or better shipping is $8.03 bring the total to $26.78USD or $27.02USD, please amend the title.

  • was going to buy it for a backup, but postage adds another $10.82

  • just about to buy one but the shipping charge $11 killed it for me. No buy

  • pressume no AU power pack and you need a travel adapter ?

    • Sometimes they throw in an adapter, but yeah usually EU pack for us.

There is a new tutorial on how to flash this with a custom ASUS firmware: whirlpool. Highly recommend.

Not sure about the 1Gbps LAN as that is a newer 3G model: mi. The rest of the specs in OPs link seem to be the 3 model.

  • Anyone tried to hook this with xiaofang cam?

  • I'm looking for a router that can stand up, and the ethernet ports are on the "spine" of the router, and not the back (flat surface). I don't know they exist anymore.

  • So this is normal price, and julz only posted as a deal because he wrongly assumed postage was included in the US$19 price?

  • DO NOT BUY!!! MISLEADING DESCRIPTION IN SELLER LISTING!!

Just wanted to let you guys know that I received one of these today and the model they sent to me is different from what they advertise in their website. It clearly says that the speed of Ethernet port of the item is 1000 M but the model they sent is one with the speed of 100 M. I already submitted a refund request but in the meantime I wanted to let others know.

    Cheers

      It's a typo.

      • Here is the response from the seller. It is a fraud not a typo!!!

        Dear Customer,

        Thank you for your message.

The related department has confirmed that this product has a 1000Mbps speed. If you read the box you will notice it says 10/100mbps. The speed of it it's 1000Mbps since 10 x 100 = 1000Mbps. The one is just written differently.

The product received is the correct model ordered as confirmed by the related department.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and we apologise for the delay in the response.

Shall you need anything else from us, please do not hesitate contacting us. We are here to assist you.

We look forward to having you on the site again soon.

        Sincerely,
        Mauricio

Mauricio's reply shows that he doesn't understand networking terminologies. Not understanding the different 802.3 varieties doesn't make it fraud.
