Xiaomi Mi Robot - $351.16 Delivered (HK) @ Shopping Square eBay

1010
PRESENT

OzBargain's favourite Robot Vacuum cleaner.

I bought one a month ago for my parents at $367 price point from overseas. Seeing how good the thing is I've just bought the one on this deal for myself. Given it's local warranty from the seller and delivery included this is an awesome deal!!! Don't forget cashrewards for another 1.3% off

Want to know how good it is… well it's better than the top of the range Roomba that RRP $1500!!! Refer this YouTube review and many others https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs48LtyMuBg It's quieter than the Roomba yet it has greater suction power, cleans better too.

Note: the Mi Home app is now 100% in English and the Mi Robot even has inbuilt speakers that speak to you with an English Voice. This is also the only Robot Vac that gives you a visual map (the Roomba doesn't do that) of where it's cleaned. The bump on the top of it actually houses a rotating LIDAR sensor, the same technology used for Self Driving cars!!! This thing has some serious technology and sells for $351!!! Crazy…. Xiaomi rocks!

Now I got to offload the Roomba that this thing will be replacing.

Picked up one of these about 2-3 weeks ago. This thing is seriously impressive and I absolutely love it, exceeded my expectations by a long shot. Does a great job of cleaning and doesn't miss many spots.

    • +1

What's the software like? Is it in English?

      • +1

Yep, the app is in English and you can download the English voice pack for when the robot speaks.

  • Can this pickups long hairs on the carpets? And also works on bathroom tiles?

    • +1

There are four females with long hair in my house with tiles, floor boards and carpet. It gets as much hair as my Dyson does off the floor. It's not great Im the corners as it' can only reach with the side brush but as a maintenance vac it's amazing. I run it every 2 days or so while I'm out of the house.

    • +1

I was pulling nothing but hair out of the vacuum brush for the first 2 days. :|

  • Jumped on it, thanks OP, missus has been at me since my LG Robot VAC ate a cord and became disabled, probably 3 years ago now. This'll be a nice surprise.

  • +20

These things are so much better than Roomba and Neato vacuums that its just embarrassing for those two companies. This is how robot vacuum cleaners SHOULD have been. I don't even care if the Chinese government is spying on me, I'll tell them everything they want to know in exchange for clean floors and a sweet little map of its progress on my smartphone.

    • +6

Mao Zedong says thank you to you

      • All they got is the composite of your rubbish :)

        • And that has helped too many spies in hollywood movies..

  • +3

Looks like they have one listed for $1 cheaper, I can't see any difference between these two:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-Robot-Vacuum-Cleaner-La…
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-Robot-Vacuum-Cleaner-La…

    • +1

I'll update to the cheaper link

  • How does it go going under or around chairs / chair legs?

    • The robo vacuum does a lot better now than it did at the start with the constant firm ware upgrades it receives.

It will 'push' into the chair legs then begin to circle to see if it will fit through the spacing.
It will try this with every chair leg.

if you have wooden furniture you may want to protect it from being hit by the bumpers and side brush as it can damage the finish.

    • I flip my chairs up onto the table. Unless you have giant chairs with enough clearance between the legs for the entire robot, it'll just have to go around the outside of all 4 legs. Table and bench legs are fine.

Got one of these puppies and haven't looked back. Even bought captain america decals so it looks like a mighty shield cleaning my floors.

    • We have to see a pic of this please!

    • +1

      Pacman Decal Please…..

      • pretty anime girls decal please….

    • Love the decals, just bought a Union Jack one for ours! And for anyone who still hasn't bought one of these vacuums - what are you waiting for? They are awesome. My wife loves it, my mum loves it so I bought one for her too. And I love it, as I can tell the missus "I'll do the vacuuming today" and feel like I'm helping her out LOL!

  • +2

My wife will kill me when she finds out what I spent on this, considering that we already own three vacuum cleaners.

She'll love me when she sees this thing actually doing the job on its own.

    • I seem to be buy new vacuum cleaners when my wife is away visiting family interstate.

I think she's going to be impressed with this one, and now that we have a 7mt old, it makes sense to have an autovac.

      • +1

damn, my son is going to be all over this! maybe not a good idea, oh well, bought one already because ozbargain.

      • Ha. Yeah, with a bub of our own taking up so much time, I think this will be an easy sell once it arrives.

        • If it lasts long enough lol I suspect he'll want to sit on this magic gizmo for a free ride around the house. and then kick and hulk smash it to death when he realises it won't carry him.

        • +1

@FeZZa21: True. I see myself setting this up to run just before we leave the house.

        • @t3chshopper:

good tip but we have alarm and will go off if it detects motion.

        • @FeZZa21: you then have to run it whilst you're at home, or leave the alarm off. What I did was replace the motion sensors with door sensors (alarm can then be turned on, no false alarms from the Mi Robot)

  • how do you get the voice to change to English? My app is in English but the voice is still in Chinese for me.

    • +1

It's under 'Settings' -> 'Voice Pack' and scroll down until you find English.

      • brilliant…thanks for that…worked like a treat

  • Delivery estimate 8 Sept to 15 Sept

Or with Gearbite $379 with delivery estimate 29 Aug to 31 Aug

    http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-Robot-Vacuum-Cleaner-Lase…

    • +1

FYI: mine arrived much earlier than the ebay estimate.

      • Thanks, was weighing up options.

    • +9

there is also the roboguy option…estimated delivery 6-12 months

      • Saw that, the seller just didn't acknowledge the shit he caused people.

  • Thanks OP. Brought one.

  • +2

I got mine a month or so back. I was housesitting and had two indoor longhair dachshunds. It was tiled floors only, but I am seriously impressed with how it went. It kept on top of the hair and dust, and being able to control remotely from the app is pretty handy. The map showing where has been cleaned is good too. You can see the dots where the table and chair legs are - it circles these with ease. Unlike an older vacuum I had, it doesn't just charge into furniture and bounce off - once it learns the environment it just eases up to objects then stops.

I can also add (unfortunately) that it survived a voyage through a pile of dog vomit. The rug was quite ruined after having spew trudged all over it by my little robotic friend, and it took me a while to clean the unit, but everything still works perfectly.

Now back home, I find it also works well on a standard rug, and successfully stops at the top of a spiral staircase. Like anything, it can get stuck on threads, cables, low hanging furniture etc so you just need to keep things out of it's way that may pose a problem. Otherwise - highly recommend.

  • Thanks op, grabbed one too. Shame that laser isn't visible as the cat would love chasing it :p

    • +6

Just sticky tape a laser pointer on top.

  • How does this go with a big amount of golden retriever hair? My old Neato was wrecked by it.

    • I have a dog with medium hair and it seems to do well. If you run it every day eventually you will notice the amount of hair in the bin is minimal due to the consistent cleaning. I used to vacuum once a week but now I set this to vacuum while I'm at work. All the moving parts are removable but I haven't had any issues with hair stuffing up the mechanics yet.

  • +1

I'll be in HK next month, anyone have any advice on where to buy one of these while I am there? And will it be the same model as is sent to us here in Australia?
    Thanks in advance

  • +1

For anyone looking for a virtual wall strip for this, gearbest has them for Au$14 at the moment https://www.gearbest.com/brushes/pp_447816.html

    • Thanks my dude!

  • The vacuum is $0.21 cheaper using the PICK50 code on here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/253087984576 :)

    • So this one exactly the same as per the original post but the seller has more sales and 99.1% reputation .. so looks like a taaaaaad slightly better deal? LOL

      • by the looks of it, apus and shoppingsquare are the same outfit. That said, I still got one for 21 cents less

  • bought one few weeks before
this is the best device I ever had so far.

  • Controlling till this touches $300… so hard though!

  • Is this the cheapest deal for Xiaomi so far? $352 delivered.

    • missed out on the shopmonk deal ~AUD300. dunno if shud wait or grab this

    • That deal lasted about 90 minutes before selling out. Great price at $299.

  • This robot is amazing!!! Had mine over a month bought at touch over $370 and worth it!!!!

  • How often do you have to clean the filter, etc?

    • Usually empty out the dustbin every clean

      • +1

Sounds easy? Just empty out a container right?
I use bag vacs usually because I hate bagless. Messy filters to clean, etc.

  • I have an LG Square RoboVac which was like $800 and it keeps getting its wheels stuck on cords, etc.

Does this have the same problem?

    • +1

Because I didn't lay down any virtual wall in the corner where my TV lives, the Xiaomi got into the cords behind the TV. It faced off against heavy duty RG6 quad shield coaxial cable, numerous power cords and even that annoying thin and way too long Wii sensor bar cord and it either traversed over them or bullied them out of the way. It almost always negotiates a way out which is remarkable.

I would say if you've got delicate wiring or have a cable jungle worse than mine, buy and lay down some virtual wall to act as a barrier. But just watch the vac on it's maiden voyage and if it doesn't get stuck anywhere, you'll be right for the future.

  • +3

Ok, I have finally relented and bought one. Should be a price reduction next week now.

  • How is everyone using the Mi Home app in English? It's still in Chinese for me!

    • Profile > Settings > Language

There are videos on YouTube if you need a step-by-step navigation

  • Bit the bullet and got one, after debating for a while :)

  • +3

Are these things the 'new' ozbargain eneloop?

  • -1

I have had mine delivered from the $299 deal but i am away for the week so cant test it out :(

Does anyone know if this will map your entire house on the app and you can tell it to clean for example, half the house on Mondays and the other half on Tuesday or if you can assign rooms in the house to be cleaned on certain days?

    • +2

App does not seem to allow you to draw out sections to clean. When it starts it maps out you house by sectioning an area, cleaning that section fully, then moving onto the next section that it maps out. It does this till its covers all sections of the house. When it reaches 20% it goes back to base to get to 80% charge then it continues from where it last stopped. Seems to work pretty well and quite intelligent you won't feel the need manually map sections out.

      • great thank you for the information so it sounds like its smart enough to work out how to clean from end to end while charging itself in between and continuing.

        • +1

It works like a self driving car. Maps out a section then sweeps back and forth perfectly parallel to the walls with each pass. Not like other machines that run everywhere randomly.

  • Hey everyone ,
Looking for some feedback from long time users.
How's the battery life like over a period of time (>1yr) and is it easy to source spare parts?

    • I don't think these have been out for a year yet. Genuine parts are readily available online and cheap too.

If your question is due to the fact you are uneasy about Chinese products, let tell you the build and quality of Xiaomi products are Apple equivalent at a much cheaper price.

I've bought so many xiaomi products (several smart phones, battery packs, security cameras, mi robot, smart home switches, smart lights and pens) and each and every item has blown me away in terms of the quality vs price ratio. So much so that if xiaomi sells a device in any category, every other brand seems like a rip off in comparison.

  • -1

Will we ever see another ~AUD300 price (shopmonk)? I am holding off for that or should I just get this one? any advice?

  • Bought. My +4 year old Neato is still going strong, but might switch over when the NiMH batteries in the Neato need to be replaced again (an annual ritual). In theory the lithium batteries in this should last a couple of years….

  • This thing is the absolute bees' knees. I grabbed a couple of the magnetic strips to stop it sucking up all the cat litter and shit in the laundry and the random screws and cords strewn through my study, the rest of the house is sparkling. carpet and tiles. This is extra useful for me since my girlfriend seems to conscientiously object to vacuuming.
Does the whole house (3br 2 bathroom) on a single charge no worries and finds its way back home to the dock, i just schedule it to run every friday and empty the dust pan when i get home. Its fun watching it zoom around and you can take control of it with your phone and drive it around with a joystick to chase your cat.
Upgrading with large googly eyes soon

  • ordered 15 aug; delivered 25 aug - 8 business days - great! (shopping square; tech20 ebay deal; also $350)
actual robot: replaces faulty botvac 85 bought oct 2014 for $800 (repaired once; same error recurred; fiddly workaround got it going occasionally)
struggled a little with the app (had to select mainland china as the locale); after that 100%
    couldn't be happier

  • Anyone had theirs shipped yet?

    • Not mine unfortunately

      • Mine shipped two days ago

        • Ordered on the 23rd Aug; got a shipping notification on Sat 26th Aug; 7 business days so far and waiting.

        • @gerenuk:

Still nothing here too… hoping to receive this week!

  • -1

My floor is filthy, save me Xiaomi Mi Robot, you're my only hope.

  • recieved my order (28th Aug) yesterday, set up, fw update and vac went smooth. only issue is I can't seem to install the english voice pack, tried 20 times and the download bar fills after few minutes then tells me couldn't be downloaded or something.

    • never mind, issue fixed. seems the wifi on the mi robot isn't very strong so moved it next to router and it downloaded the english voice pack fine.

  • Mine arrived today….. Ordered 25/8, arrived 13/9, so around 11 business days. Firmware updated, speaking English, set to local time zone - all easy as, although it did take a while to update. Now charging (came with 50% charge).

    • …and I let it go upstairs (carpet). Had to empty the bin about three times in the process - picked up an impressive amount of fluff. The bin definitely could be bigger. I also ran it in 'turbo' mode, and the sound level was fine. Next time I might try it on 'max' mode and see what difference it makes. Overall, fairly impressed with it. Did not get caught up anywhere, did each room fairly efficiently, and easily made its way back to the charging dock. Ran it twice, and battery had gone from 100% to 35%, so not too shabby. I'd say it was comparable in results to my old Neato, but cheaper plus some extra features such as better battery and remote control via the app. The map is nice as - with the Neato - there is frequently the 'did it do this room?' question that the map will answer.

      • …and final update. Have run it daily on the carpet now for a week, all except for the first run on 'max' setting - chews through the battery, but still manages to easily do the floor in one go. It's starting to pickup less fluff per run which is to be expected, but definitely needs the bin emptying after each go. The carpet looks amazing. As a bonus, it also is able to use the magnetic strip from my old Neato as a "wall".
