Sorry where is the link for PICK50?

  • Is Wireless1 a good online seller?.

    • if you are happy to wait two weeks before it gets posted, then yes.

      • I'll pass. Besides this is no good for FTTN.

      • two weeks if you're lucky….I waited a month on my last order. never again.

    • I ordered this last night after work and just received notification that my order has shipped. Pretty happy with that turnaround time.

      • Is it on the tracking that it was actually handed over to the courier?. Receiving a tracking number and the item actually handed to the hands of the courier is two different things.

        • It says "Postage info received" - and when I put the tracking number into the aus post website it says Pending - no events yet. Parcel Post.

I had no idea you could get a tracking number without handing it over to Australia Post!

        • +1

          @myfragileego:

Yes you can. Postage info received means that the shipping information has been supplied to Australia Post, but the parcel itself hasn't been handed over to them yet.

And yes you can get a tracking number without handing it over to Australia Post. Prepaid satchels have a tracking number on it that will show up on the Australia Post tracker as with "no events yet" until it's handed over to Australia Post and then it will get a further scan. Also people with an Australia Post account can prepay shipping labels with a tracking number on it to stick onto a parcel box, before being handed over to Australia Post.

The next stage on the tracking should say some thing like "postage information approved" which should mean it's now in the hands of Australia Post.

        • Wireless1 said "shipped" but yeah, not according to Australia Post.

        • @hollykryten: The item arrived yesterday and I picked it up from the post office today. It turns out I was using the wrong tracking number. After receiving notification about shipping info, it was processed by Australia Post NSW the same evening (Friday) and it was here in QLD by Monday.

So far I'm very happy with the device, I've just finished setting it up and it has some useful features the Apple Airport Extreme (it replaces) lacked.

I'd consider buying this if Turnbull and his 'innovative' misfits hadn't made a mess of the NBN sentencing most of us to FTTN purgatory.

    • +1

Yeah last year i went and bought an ADSL2+ modem which said on the box it was NBN ready in anticipation for NBN to be rolled out. Only to be later told i will be getting FTTN in the area and it only had an ADSL2+ modem in it.

      • +4

Yeah, the LNP have created a two tier NBN. Shouldn't be surprised though, a two tier society is their modus operandi.

      • Pretty high chance that a last year model modem would also have vdsl2

        • Well no, this at the time was an older model, got it cheap. And this was before they announced the area would be FTTN only. So i had go and buy a new D-Link DSL-2885A VDSL2 modem instead.

  • Why not compatible with FTTN, this is just a wifi/ethernet router?

    • It's just a wifi router with no built in modem which is required for FTTN. This will only work on FTTP + fixed wireless.

      • +6

It will still work fine with a FTTN modem + this router.

This is like when you had ADSL with a modem and you connect a wireless router.

Just put the original modem in bridging mode.

        • +1

Bingo, this guy gets it ^

      • Also OK for those of us on Skymuster Satellite NBN

      • and I assume HFC.

        • Not sure, I don't know anything about HFC. I'm one of those lucky bastards with FTTP :D

    • Because it's only a router, not a VDSL2 modem.

      • Yes no reason it will not work with FTTN… You just need a FTTN modem

  • Anyone with experience with this router? Isnt this shop closing down?

  • Will it work for hfc nbn?

This one or netgear nighthawk D7000?

    Thanks guys :)

    • Why would you be buying a VDSL2 modem such as the Nighthawk D7000 for HFC NBN?. I'm pretty sure the D7000 won't work on a fibre cable connection being designed for FTTN. Do you mean the Nighthawk R7000 router?.

      • Well if I read correctly on this website it says that both D and R are compatible :/ or I'm crazy

        https://kb.netgear.com/30439/What-is-an-NBN-network-and-is-m…

        • Oh i see, i did not know that.

According to what pc6673 down below is saying, it has the same hardware as the D7000 so it should be fine, plus Linksys is a good brand. It's just whether you are in a hurry for it or not, as i hear Wireless1 does not ship out the items in any hurry at all, if you don't mind waiting a few weeks before being shipped.

        • @hollykryten:

Thank you for your help, I did so much reading to see what's compatible and best for my hfc connection, very confusing, not all nbns are the same.
So I need a vdsl router with wan and I should be good?

        • What's your best online price on the D7000?

I'm trying to get something other than the TG789 from Internode to test/fix what I think is buffer-bloat— but you can't adjust settings in the TG789.

We have a wicked ping-spike, every so many seconds (over 1,000), that makes even teleconferencing in Skype painful. Hoping that there are adjustable settings in a better modem/router that we can have a fiddle with.

Anyone know about this, or had success fixing the above?

          Cheers

  • how does this rate conmpared to the more expensive/popular Netgear R7000 and Asus RT-68 models?

    • +1

The Linksys EA 6900 is a dual core Arm Cortex A9 based router clocked at 800 MHZ. Version 1.0 was introduced in 2013, version 1.1 in 2014. This Router is comparable with the likes of the ASUS RT-AC68U and sports 128 MB flash NAND and 256 MB Ram memory it has 3 external antennas for a 3x3 Wi-Fi mimo, gigabit Ethernet and a USB 3.0 port.

    • +1

From the reviews… close in performance. But since this 100 less than the others its a good deal. Just got 1 cause i was actually waiting on rt 68 to become cheap.

      • good enough logic for me
        Bought one also

  • not bad deal as it has same hardware of D7000 . I got this and flashed it with more powerful DD-WRT firmware.

    • Any problems evcou tered doing this?

      • stable till now.

        • Can you tell me the power supply voltage and current of the power adapter - I want to run it from my off grid solar setup.

    • +1

Models after mid-2016 are reported to be locked and can't install DD-WRT. More: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=291230#291230

      • assume these are old stock and lucky to be compatible with asus Merlin / ddwrt :p

        • I'll let you know. ;) V1, V1.1 and V2 on Linksys site so lock probably applicable to v2 only.

        • +1

          @Gav: I got v1.1

      • Was about to buy this and then read the thread on dd-wrt. Looks like it'll be a pain to get DD-WRT running properly.

        I'll pass.

  • If there's anyone knowledgeable that can answer my question. Can I use this one on my NBN HFC connection with Aussie broadband ISP?

    Thanks guys.

    • You will still need the HFC modem from them and this will act as a wireless router only.

      • Hmmm hmmm, I'm now completely confused. What is the thing that the nbnco will install inside my house that also needs to be electricity powered and that I need a wan port on my router? Isn't that a modem???

        • HFC - think Foxtel. Round connector. FTTP/FTTH is big box inside, attached to wall. The Linksys listing is confusing.

        • That is already a modem I think they will also give you a wireless modem/router nowadays.

You don't need it unless you want a better wireless coverage depends on how good the wireless on the one they gave you.

        • @superforever:

They aren't giving anything, they want to sell me some crap for approx $170 I'd rather buy something better on my own. This picture explains hfc connection but it confuses me.

          http://www.nbnco.com.au/content/dam/nbnco2/images/infographi…

If I understood well, I'm supposed to get some sort of nbn connection box which is supposed to serve as a modem itself :/?

So I just need a router?

        • @drazenm: I just got HFC NBN with buzztelco.
This is the cable modem I've received from NBN: https://media.licdn.com/mpr/mpr/AAEAAQAAAAAAAAn7AAAAJDYxOGNk…
You only need to connect it to a wifi router (which supports VLAN tagging)
You just need to connect to the EWAN port of your router.

I used my old Billion 7800N wifi router and it works fine. This linksys should work too.

        • @dtroy:

Thank you for helping out 🙃 I'll get the linksys one.
