Anything for Melbourne supporters though? (The ones that are not up at the snow)

Melbourne Demons supporter brings cheese platter and smashed avocado to game at the MCG

    • +1

They get fed pretty well over in the MCC.

    • +1

Hoping the Dees feast on lots of Pies. Maybe to the tune of 50+ points

    • +2

It's a whole damn avocado sliced up, idiots don't even understand the meaning of the word 'smashed'. lol

      • Smashed avo has become a meme :(

    • -1

Gees - is that really news? Someone takes snacks to a football game. The Herald Scum may have more of a lower class audience than I thought. How is their readership going?

      • +1

Do you follow football all that much? As a Melbourne support I found this hilarious as it reinforces our stereotype to the public.

        It's light humor.

    Cold pies! Warm drinks!

    Sorry.

  • take them from home and put into thermos ….. wrap in paper towel inside thermos so don't get soggy …… angus and pepper four n twenty are nicest …..

    • It's probably cheaper at the supermarket….

    • +4

      Thermos is for hot dogs.

Smuggled meat pies go in the undies

    • +1

Are you allowed to take a thermos to a game these days?

      • +1

Yep. Did it last week for a cuppa.

        • What ground? Did they open it to confirm contents?

        • @sabracad:

          What ground?

Both Ethihad and MCG allow them and they don't check.

        • @jv: Isn't that open to abuse - filling up with alcohol or anything for that matter from a security point of view.

At Suncorp Stadium and Gabba in Brisbane any bags are inspected and any unsealed bottles are opened and sniffed. Pretty sure there's a plastic only rule too so I don't think a thermos would be allowed. Ok if you're Richard Lewis' nurse from Curb I guess but more difficult for others to smuggle in.

It doesn't seem to have been a problem…

If people want to get drunk, they just go to the pub outside the ground before the game… They're not going to go to the trouble of filling up a thermos.

        • @jv: Ever heard of mulled wine?

        • @sabracad: Etihad and they didn't open it.

        • @Sir Casm: Because we don't shut down at 5pm. End of argument. That's why so many young Queenslanders come down here, and only old Victorians go up there.

        • -1

          @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

Do enlighten me as to what is open in Melbourne after 5pm that isn't in Brisbane (most restaurants and bars open 7 nights up here), hell even Bunnings is open until 9pm on week nights.

        • +1

@Sir Casm: There's always something on, no matter what night of week. We have nightlife areas beyond a single point (like the Valley). The city is made to explore on foot/public transport, with interesting bars and restaurants in every nook and cranny.

You may have shirked the WWII era shopping and drinking laws eventually, but you've still yet to develop something resembling an interesting culture.

    Judging from that picture:

It's at that moment when Johnno realised his lips were welded into the scolding hot pie

  • +3

Wow. Good deal. That's like, 10 bucks off.

    • And are they some sort of shitty minced pie?
As apposed to a real meaty pie!?

  • What is the regular price?

    • not sure exactly, around the $5 mark seems pretty close to how brutal my wallet was assaulted last time.

      • +2

        around the $5

        4.30 at the MCG

        Diff grounds have diff prices.

  • 4 for $4 at Coles last week.

    • These ones are warm though.
      Coles ones are cold.

      • -4

You can warm them up yourself. Only costs 2-3 cents of electricity in a microwave.
Will probably still be warmer than the ones at the footy when you arrive.

  • they want to leave a nice taste in the mouth of us lackies and bunnies

  • Staggered this includes subi oval… (albeit not the kids entry)

    • +1

I'm surprised they aren't cheaper at Subi this weekend, seeing as it's the last footy match there. Ever.

      • It's sad to think it's the end of afl at subi.

        • No way subi has been a whole for way too long. Good riddance and bring on the new stadium

        • @tremell: The stadium is, sure. But they have played there for a bloody long time. It's gonna be weird heading west instead of east of the CBD for Perth footy fans.

        • @thescarecrow84:

Other way around - we will now be heading east.. instead of west!

Much better transport options, better seating, better viewing and a less cantankerous council to deal with.

        • @baggyred: Oh yeah. Duh!

Yep Subi council were jerks. Hoping there will be entertainment infrastructure built up around the new stadium. I've no interest in the casino and I think I'm not the only one (although my views don't really matter, being ex-Perth now).

      • Not the last footy match, just the last AFL match.

  • Ps - I don't like the stereotyping by the afl in the picture of Mclachlan and Burgoyne. Why does a white man have the money while the black man is making the unhealthy food choice?!

    • Please be taking the piss.. I honestly can't tell anymore.

      • +2

        Yep taking the piss haha

        • Faith in humanity temporarily restored!

  • +2

Referring to the link. You reckon Burgoyne does the Krusty Burger spit after the camera is off?

  • OK… Am I gross for absolutely drowning my pie in tomato sauce?

    • +1

      Nope.

  • Dont be like this little nipper

  • I wish they would put some effort into the food at sporting events, they are a national disgrace.

    • How so?

      • Look abroad and get back to me.

        • I'm good. Why don't you take a cheese platter.

        • @tomsco: Because a cheese platter is what you consider snobbish?

Stick to your $10 frozen pies, the lazy guys running the stores are laughing at you.

Meanwhile, other countries get a wide variety of quality food because they actually put in effort for their fans.

        • @Matslurpee:

I consider going to the football and expecting a culinary experience to be snobbish.

I don't care what food they serve because when I go, I go to watch 44 blokes attack a weirdly shaped ball.

And as it is, the MCG does have a variety of options.

Stick to your $10 frozen pies, the lazy guys running the stores are laughing at you.

You do realise that is now how people operate?

  • So, after the first bounce the price gets bumped?
