Romeo's Foodland SA - $0.78c/kg Pink Lady Apples, $5.88/kg Chicken Breast, $6.97/kg Middle Bacon

90

The pink ladies are a particularly good bargain. I bought some tonight. They are crisp but do have some markings/imperfections like dents (from something poking them when they were growing rather than bruises).

I don't happen to reside in SA unfortunately but +1 for those pink lady prices! Arguably the best (red) apple :)

    • Arguably the best (red) apple

      Have you tried the Modi?

      • Can't say I have but a quick google and it looks like a real contender!

But red delicious apples prove that looks aren't everything..

        • I love Jazz apples but tried the Modi at the Good Food & Wine show, and it's the BEST apple I've ever tasted.

        • @jv: Hmmm, Jazz apples are good as well but they are normally more expensive I find then the pink ladies…
And being like I am I go for my cheapest preferred apples :)

        • @pennypincher98:

Modi were on special at Coles last week for $3/kg, but our local one doesn't stock them.
I think I saw Jazz for $4/kg at Coles today.

Apples are one fruit I don't skimp on… If they're not fresh and don't taste good, I'd rather have something else.

        • @jv: $4 a kg!! My previous pink lady bag was $1.39/$1.49 for a kg at my (kind of) local foodworks xD - coles, woollies and aldi are all closer but they always have good fresh specials :)

        • @pennypincher98:

          $4 a kg!

That's a good price in Melbourne for top quality apples…

coles, woollies and aldi are all closer

I nearly always buy mine at our local fruit shop. A bit pricier, but huge difference in quality.

        • @jv: Hmmm… are they charging shipping by apple or something?!

        • @pennypincher98:

Normal price at the fruit shop for Jazz is around $5.99/kg. Gala are a bit cheaper, around $4.99/kg

        • @jv: gala and red delicious are like the homebrand type of apples though haha

        • @pennypincher98:

Royal Gala are pretty good, much better than red delicious IMO, but I've been buying Jazz for the last few years. Jazz has a much shorter season though, so then go back to Gala.

        • @jv: I used to like Royal gala and Fuji but I think the quality of both have gone downhill. I also find pink ladies suffer from a weird 'foam' quality if they aren't fresh.

          I do like jazz apples.

        • @em: Haven't really had a foamy pink lady but fujis and red delicious are terrible..
Royal gala are too inconsistent for my liking, ill have a good one today and then a bad one tomorrow.

  • Great prices, I find IGA Yass the "farm" has decent prices too but still too far away from Canberra.
